Neal Giraldo is a great rock guitar player....very underrated...and he has played on more hit songs (Rick Derringer , John Waite, Kenny Loggins, etc etc...) than people realize. Just humbuckers, into a Marshall head and let it rip. Geez I miss those days of guitar driven rock.
I met Neal and Pat 10 years ago ! Down to earth great people and great tippers! The Friday’s show was so good better than Saturday night live! I thought
That’s mostly due to “standards and practices” every recorded show has a list of things that guests can and can’t do so to control them from cussing or pulling a Super Bowl Janet Jackson stunt or basically anything off script they make them use pre-recorded sound with exception to the vocals.(sometimes even vocals). Kinda hard to “perform” over a recorded soundtrack
Yeah, this was the classic Benatar band lineup. Charlie Giordano was added on keys by the time Get Nervous came out, and Scott Sheets on rhythm guitar was gone by then. Definitely a much rawer sound with the twin guitar attack on her earlier tracks. And I must say, this short pixie look was the signature look for Pat.
Heard this today on the radio, and it reminded me of a friend Sue Gioletti good times, and on a other note, Pat is right up there with Joan as far as the queens of rock
Actually playing LIVE. And killing it of course because they were a kickass band. So many of these old videos are lip synched. This is a nice change. Great guitar solo too. Rock on!
I have a distinct memory of watching this the night that it aired which is odd considering i'd been to the early showing of TRHPS (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) that evening. I didn't stay for the midnight showing because I wanted to see Pat perform and I was actually into 'Fridays' and wish they'd given it a few more seasons.
Somethin about that I was on set with her and Vivian comes on grans her lo g curly red hair says something like it might give her away she then cut ot short over some secret.
In about 1980 I was working on a construction project in Dallas, Texas. I usually got to work about 6am. to get things set up for my work crew who started at 7am. Big crowd of people across the street so early in the day. Then I noticed that there was a ticket office there. So I walked across the street, hundreds of people lined up. I asked whose tickets were going on sale? Pat Benatar.
First to start: this is a great performance, perfect energy with wonderful polish. But for a show whose music production was almost always superior to SNL, this just isn't mixed right. The most-likely reason for this is phase cancellation caused by bleed-through from either an audience mic too high in the mix or Neil Geraldo having way too much stage volume, bleeding into EVERY mic. But before I knew this stuff I was a kid who watched this performance live the night before I had to go to detention on Saturday morning. I just came away knowing that I'd been rocked out!
He was pushed out of the band. That's Scott Sheets. I knew Scott, he helped record a Seattle based band I was in back in '91 as he believed in us. Our singer flaked out at the last minute after recording and before we were to showcase for some labels, so it didn't happen when we couldn't find a replacement singer. He's a great guy and very talented.
RodneyLee I remember Scott Sheets - actually knew his name! Given Neil Gerardo status and chops why would he have been pushed out. I know Pat & Neil are fairly famously frugal, was he cut to save in weekly payroll?
@@mattaki I don't remember the reason he gave other than Pat and the other guy were romantically involved and they felt they needed more keyboards and less guitar as she went in a more pop direction.
Finally made it into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. Almost 70 years old now and they're just as good as they've ever been! 🎸💃
Myron Grombacher was a beast on drums! Love these guys!
I've always loved that guitar solo!
All hail the Queen of Rock, and girls and boys this is how singing live should sound!!!
The voice and music of the 1980s.
Great little guitar solo. Well-written.
The vocals: lit as f***. Lead Guitars: LAF. Rhythm: LAF. Percussion: LAF. Bass: LAF. How can you dislike this????
Put Pat in the Hall of Fame. She Deserves it. Way past Do

Rick Springfield “Jessie’s Girl” too..
@@raserx63 Really? Rick can really play... see his work with Zoot for example
I saw Pat & Neil do a concert before the Super Bowl about ten years- I was so impressed with Neil. Just an amazingly talented musician.
Yep; nothin' fancy, just full speed ahead....
He understands how to use the volume knob
Neil’s Tone and overall playing is 🔥🔥🔥
I met Neal and Pat 10 years ago ! Down to earth great people and great tippers! The Friday’s show was so good better than Saturday night live! I thought
There's nothing like this anymore.
saw her twice, first time with this band, second with the keyboards, both shows were great. drummer was a monster live
Love how drummer Myron Grombacher slams that gong!!
Style and skill. So underrated
He hit it with his best shot.
Saw her in the 80's she was great......saw her a couple of years ago she was just as good.....timeless
classic solo guitar..musical, interesting and not what you hear today
Neil!!
Cuz hes better then the majority of todays players
I hada in the pasta
Incredible times with your music,LOVE YOU GUYS❤
damn you cant beat the 80s stuff man
Wow! this is a really good quality video considering that it's over 30 years old.
Great Times!
this must have been back when musicians could actually perform live
+fr3@kb!+¢h yep
Actually, it has a lot to do with the gear being used too. Most everything was analog or tube based, rather than digital and transistors.
Friday's was known for their live performances.
Yep, another "it's-not-as-good-as-my-day" old fart. Open your eyes and ears - great musicians out there today will be grateful.

Awesome band.Myron on drums is great.
Myron G rocks this song. The gong hit is killer!
The thing about her live singing is that she doesn't miss a note. That's really rare considering how aggressive she sings.
Myron Grombacker very underrated Drummer

same Charlie Giordano from Springsteen's current lineup?
Jim Rafferty yes, same one.
I love the 80s so much!
2:06 it's so unexpected for that drummer to climb up there I started literally laughing out loud, great performance!
That’s strange I see him getting up and hitting a big gong..
Heard this today on the radio, and it reminded me of a friend Sue Gioletti good times, and on a other note, Pat is right up there with Joan as far as the queens of rock
don't forget Ann Wilson
or grace slick
Clean and raw. No pitch control, very little echo. cool.
HAPPY 64TH BIRTHDAY PATRICIA "PAT" BENATAR (JANUARY 10, 2017)
Neil Geraldo had some of the tastiest guitar solos ever, IMHO.
the Queen of RR
I have had that same guitar for 40 years and it's got a super unique sound
That guitar tone though
Soooo 80s
And that’s a good thing :-)
Linda época, artistas de verdad, no la basura de hoy.
Thanks for the memories
shes the best Rock woman ever!!!!!!!!!
that would be Nancy Wilson. close though.
grace slick up there as well
Pat is the consummate pro; just making it look easy....
Pat Benatar es un bombón!!!
She’s always the best rockstar 👍
Super Lady of Rock 'n' Roll !
fantastic i have always thought she has a great rock voice
este es el grupo que amo porque son 80

Patty can sure sing .look how young they were!

Que tal banda ... Que guitarras con su lider ... y con el mejor tema de Pat ... beautiful !!!

me encanta !
Happy 69th Birthday Pat!!!!
classic
Great..
From December 5, 1980...three days later John Lennon was killed
She is so talented and so very hot ! And she is still hot and going strong ! What a great professional and personal partnership with Neil.
Smokin'
Reminds me of Elliot Easton kind of soloing, virtuoso with a bit of country and big tone
What was that intro? This an early version? That intro was a bit different then the record. Cool tho.
Yeah he improvised a bit ...Neil’s guitar was turned way up and Scott’s guitar was way down as well so it stood out more than the rhythm part..
Anyone have those HBO performances from catch a rising star?
Who is the other guitarist on the left of Pat? Looks like Brian May.
Damn Pat Benatar was so sexy and talented
Unlike top of the pops , the fridays are all live
Oh God. 😂
👍♥️❤🍷🍷
Anyone who dislikes this song must feel threatened.
Wow Spider, I do NOT think you are LOUD ENOUGH in the MIX ffs TURN IT UP MORE
Pat's songs are too violent. Hit me with your best shot, Hell is for Children, Love is a battlefield? Scandalous! lol
FYI: "Hell is for children" is about child abuse
@@Beethoven5th I know. Just joking.
@@bongodave13 I figured it was a joke by the tone You were using (plus the "lol")
I wanted others to know, who aren't aware of it. 😎👍
Scandalous 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always want to tell Neil geraldo to stand up properly. He's always hunched over.
patti osaa )
De que ano que é?
Myron Drumwhacker!
Pat Benatar was on "Lucky Charmed" but I can't find a good clip from that show. At least this is a TV show.
You could run a nuclear plant from the B.C. Rich guitars of that era.
Pat is Slav' Yanka. Her moosh is the lead guitar man.

Yep, just noticed the same thing. The rhythm guitar is almost inaudible.
Amazing that even with subpar mixing, their live sound is still fantastic, raw, and energetic!

A very sexy Pat Benatar.
DO IT LIVE BITCHES
Rhythm guitar not loud enough.

Thank goodness she met Neil Giraldo, or Pat might still be married to Dennis Benatar and working in a bank somewhere.
Neil giraldo and myrom grombacher !!!!
At least the cameraman knew who was playing what…
the music went in another direction when they decided to go one guitar
Bad sound mix... Pat comes through none the less.
She looks a little wasted
i didnt know brian may played in this band
She's not allowed to sing that song in 2024 because it hurts the feelings of the feminazi's.😂
