  • Rare footage of John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens who were commissioned to design and make the stained glass windows for Liverpool's catholic cathedral.
The documentary by the Shell Film Unit looks at how they developed their designs, approached working with modern materials and the sheer scale of the task in hand.

My old dad used to work for Decca making the 'new' colour TV's and he goto one of the FIRST in our street due to this! So of course HE got me onto these many Trade Test Transmissions. I found them to be really informative and as a 6 year old I watched them over and over. My favourite was filmed near me called 'The Home Made Car'. Dada tauh me electronics and car repairs and I went on to fulfil my dream to be an aircraft engineer - THANK YOU DAD and TTT'S . I learnt so much due to these many short films that just played over and over on the new BBC2 I think?? Please look for Trade Test films on You Tube, one was about the VC10 aircraft, mt favourite aircraft and thanks to the RAF my first posting was WORKING ON THEM! I also fly now as a provate pilot...............all thanks to the inspiration of THESE FILMS! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

This film was one of a number commissioned by my uncle, James Lillie-Costello, when he was Public Relations Manager at Shell. He and his wife were Roman Catholics. And I think Shell were also involved in Coventry Cathedral, thanks to him. I think Shell may have paid for the glass for both cathedrals?
