If it’s any consolation....between this and the unboxing....it was a real treat to hear you say “vanilly” and if you were on the NY Mets, 1 for 6 would make you a superstar!
Haha, nicely done. Admittedly I was too lazy to research how to pronounce this one in advance. I saved some effort there for good reason as it's already gone:)
I cant wrap my head around how anyone could not like that scent. I believe that was my choice for the "if there could only be one" tag video. I love that scent from Noble Otter. I do agree that they should offer some samples! Nobody wants to go 1 out of 6 with an artisan.
And the fall begins...... I missed on this one, I missed on a stirling, and I missed on a shannons, all within a few days of each other:) This one I just get black tea out of. I can't get any sweetness of the vanilla at all out of it. Great quality soap though:)
Dont apologise for having an option. What a dreadful world we would live in if we all liked the same. For me that's the whole point in reviewing a product.. your honesty means more. Keep up the good work
I just picked up my first Gem Micromatic from the swap meet on Sunday. It is the gold open comb and I got it for 5.00. it is honestly in really great shape, very little wear and no plating loss. Used it this morning after sanitizing and cleaning it yesterday and I got a great shave. A couple weepers but, for my first time using a SE razor very comfortable close shave. Great discussion today and I agree that you can’t get too upset or turned off just because you don’t agree with someone or one thing they say. Without civility in disagreement we will never come to common ground, and most people agree on more than they disagree on items they just never take the time to find that out. Sorry for writing a book, stay safe.
Morning Chris. What you say is true about samples. It is a lot less expensive to buy samples than to get larger portions of a soap and find out you don't like it. I like Sterling samples because they are large enough for a few shaves, not just one. Like to see the vintage razor use. Letting people know that old is still usable. Chris may have gotten carried away a bit but I understand his view point. He has that right. People need to toughen up.
Thanks John, I appreciate it. I don't mind missing on a brand now and then but when I miss 5 times out of 6 I have to consider trying to get samples in the future:)
When I started out I used to think the open comb razors were more aggressive. I associated a closed comb with a modern razor and the closed comb with vintage. I now know very differently. Good point. A very interesting chat today. I'm surprised that people could be offended by you saying something is not for you. Lovely razor. Cheers Chris. Take care.
Thanks Mark. Often times people automatically feel OC razors are more aggressive/efficient and this simply isn't the case. There are many SB razors that are far more aggressive than than OC razors:)
Nice shave, Chris! I haven't tried Noble Otter soaps, yet(I've tried SO many diff soaps.) I have heard good things about Nobble Otter's performance, though. I can get a decent shave with the Gem Micromatic Open Comb, but mine definitely has some bite to it. The Clog Proof I have feels milder, but I recently learned that there were 2 versions of the Clog Proof, so maybe that's the difference with mine? Each to his own! I do prefer the Gem Stainless PTFE(Teflon) blades in all of my Gem razors. Cheers! -Rob
Noble Otter is good stuff, no doubt. I'm not sure of all the versions of the Clog Pruf but I tend to feel more blade on mine than the OC Micromatic. Have a great day Rob.
I had the same reaction to La Toja stick. Everyone seems to describe it as fresh laundry, but when I opened it I was bludgeoned by the smell of stale cigarette ashes. Truly nasty! My immediate reaction was to throw it out, yet the wife said it just smelled like soap to her. I made myself use it a few times and the offensiveness went away. It has now become my most used soap. If I go 2 or 3 weeks without using it, however, the stink comes back and I have to readjust.
That's really interesting. Usually if I don't like something I'll lather it a few times to see if I pick up anything different. I'll also keep it beside me and smell it multiple times a day to see if I warm up to it. In this case I just couldn't warm up to it:)
TNeV is one of the wetshaving GOATS for me.. Was my first shaving soap EDP that I bought b/c I liked it so much! Sounds like your Noble Otter is my Barrister & Mann. It was like 20 B&M's before I found one that I loved haha. Good thing about these premium brands is that the resell value is very good, esp if you buy used.. you can usually sell them for what you get it for
Most of the time I have a friend who ends up wanting it so I end up giving it away. This one just wasn't for me, it kinda smells ashy and is completely devoid of the vanilla sweetness. It was just a solid miss.
It's impossible for us all to like the same scents. I'm quite fortunate as I only find Arco sticks smell iffy! But I'll still use them for travelling as it's a good soap, especially at the price. I shaved with my newly delivered 1959 Fatboy today, it was awesome
I adore BarrBarr, still not sure about Two Kings. Great soap though!! Have you tried Tempest by Wholly Kaw? I like it but it actually evoked the gag reflex in my wife!!
Thanks brother. I agree and this is why I stopped talking about these things. It's nice to be able to get away from politics via hobbies like this, sports, etc.:)
Hi Chris. I feel you on missing with scents. The only issue i have is when a new scent releases by the time you get a sample and try it if you like it by time you go back to buy the soap/splash alot of time it sells out . Cheers
There are N. Otter samples at Maggard. At least there are usually. I bought all of them so I knew what I like. I usually agree with your scent preferences but I really like Noir et Vanille. Haven't seen Chris's video, I added it to watch later and it was deleted in the meantime. I hate when that happens :)
Nice shave Chris! It's too bad that most of the NO scents are not to your liking. I have never tried NO so I can't give my opinion on them. In the future, I may give them a shot. Anyway, enjoy the day!
Hi , these soaps consider the best on the market (so iv'e heard), how would you compare them to Stirling that i saw you reviewed before? and in terms of scents power ?what is the best Stirling scent for you ? and what is the best scent shaving soap that you've ever tried from any company? Thank you for great reviews
That’s a shame you didn’t take to the scent, not having much luck with NO are you? Totally agree on samples, would love to see more. I did catch Cris’ video before he took it down and wondered if he’d end up regretting some of his comments. I do think he’s just brutally honest sometimes and some folk don’t see that he doesn’t mean any offence by it
I've been the same with First Line Shave soaps. I've had more misses than likes. I've liked Razor Ruby and didn't like Delmar Blvd and not a fan of Dapperman. I'm hoping Dapperman grows on me. I have Razor Ruby Undead showing up today and I'm hoping it is a hit with my nose.
The Gem Micromatic Razor did poorly for me when tried it a few weeks ago. Rough feel and poor whiskers cut. I started with it but after a few strokes, continued the shave with a normal d.e. razor. I do not know how some shavers use Micromatic so well.

Nice shave C
You rock bro.
Take care my friend.
🤘😃🤘
Thanks very much Matti!
That was my first Noble Otter , bought the other year. The scent for me was very light, but very enjoyable.
Yes, it seems that most people like it. I'm definitely in the minority on this one.
Well done, pointing that out, as king of the Fresh Boys!
I am hoping to get that one day.
It's not a winner for me but most people seem to like it. I really loved the Spearhead Lavender Vanilla at the end though:)

Thanks very kindly Seth. Sometimes when these comments come a little later I've forgotten what was talking about at the time:)
I wasn’t excited to get this due to the praise and label but feel the same as you on the scent
Fantastic soap, I just don't care for 5 out of 6 scents I've tried. I have to move to the no blind buying policy on this one.
Great shave! I’m with you on the companies making samples.
Thanks so much William. I hope they'll listen to us:)
@@IAMCDB even if it’s enough for 2 shaves... one to use and the other to pass on to another possible customer.

It's a nice quality soap but I just haven't taken to the scents sadly. It's worth trying though.

You better get that crown and crane Peach soap insted of noble otter 😁
I should have:)
I hate to think of the number of soaps I would not have bought if I had a sample. That said mixology has given me some fun ways to use many of them.
Yes sir, I think samples are a tremendous value that keep the customers happy.

I guess you could say my pronunciation matched the scent:)
I have yet to try Noble Otter but I hear nice things about it. Forgiveness ... is especially great in a shaver. 😁🙌
They definitely make a nice soap Jeff. I agree with you on forgiveness, it's a great thing to offer if you can:)

It might be a matter of blade. I know some folks prefer particular types of SE blades.
top video !!!
Thanks very much Razor.
I just cant warm up to these style razors. I've owned a few, I've shaved a good amount of time and just feel the blades are a little harsh
They work nicely for me but some folks need to experiment with the variations of blades on these.
I haven't found any SE blades I really like, either. Not much to choose from.

@@FrankDAgostino77 Sorry to hear. There are several variations out there but not a ton relative to the amount of choices we have with DE.

We did not. I rarely plan shaves with other folks or get in on the themes. I usually already have stuff lined up:)

thats a bummer you didnt really like their scents. use their unscented one.

This soap shares many of the same scent notes as Night Music..which might explain why you don't like it 🤣
HA! You might be onto something there.
