Oh man, thanks for this. The guy is one of my all time favourites, not only because he was brilliant, but also a class professional. You won't ever see him picking fights or playing the man; always focused. Yster
What a legend! planted tries like he was building a forest 😅 And Hugh Bladen's commentry just added more to the excitement. Don't we just love legends?
Nico Loubser you'd never sleep in a field, those quick restarts always led to a try..... after watching Faf de Klerk ystrday I believe he got Fourie's blood within him
This kind of tribute video mostly shows the tries scored by "tributee" himself, but IMHO what FDP is most good at is 'let one of your teammate score' (I believe he is one of the reason why B. Habana amassed 60+ tries in Green & Gold).
Very entertaining video, REAL RUGBY material as stated in the intro indeed not just the usual clickbait garbage with generic radio music. Didn't feel I'd spent 15min at all. Thumbs up.
Watching Faf de Klerk on that 1st test against England, he reminded me of Fourie Du Preez's magic on the field..... the best comment was "This boy got Rugby in his Blood"
I just have to say - you dug up footage from the Cats era. Jesus you went DEEP! I have a signed rugby ball from the Cats team, Andre Vos and all of them! Thanks for this throwback :)
Oh, as an aside, I know Fourie's nephew personally. I was told that FdP played for the love of the game, and his salary was a pittance, he is the heir of a mining company that left him with far far more money than SA rugby could ever pay him as a salary. A true "good old boy" of God's game.
PartiZAn18 That's accurate, I've heard the same from sources close to him. I believe the best players still play for the love of the game. Fourie was one of the best ever
Fourie was far better than Joost Joost was as an individual brilliant but in a team structure Fourie had more discipline and was able to set his teammates up for tries
Agree, du Preez filled the gaps that was missing in JVDW and that was always putting the team and game first in front of his individual brilliance and that was what made du Preez one of the best scrumhalves ever, if not the best ever, Aaron Smith from New Zealand I think has a similar approach as that du preez had.
His running style, especially at the acceleration stage reminds me of Joost. FvP the best scrummie we've had. Did EVERYTHING you need and more. Great pass. Great kicking game. Great anticipation. Great reading of the play. Great acceleration. Great support play. Only thing Joost was genuinely better at was defense, but du Preez was still more than decent there too.
No-one could ever snipe, break, strike, or scrap like Joost but FduP was the best since Gareth Edwards. But I never saw Gareth Edwards play so perhaps the best ever. Would have liked to see, just once, contemporaries Carter and du Preez play together. Add McCaw, Matfield and Bakkies and you have a winning team regardless of who makes up the numbers.
FDP put together some of the greatest scrum-half exhibitions that I’ve ever been privileged to witness, and I’m a Wallabies fan who watched Gregan and Larkham carve up the best defences regularly.
Thanks for the channel, but just to note that rugby is about much more than tries. To appreciate, eg, du Preez, more important would be his way actical kicks, assist passing, and fame management.
Different eras. Different type of game plan. He is the complete package, now lost to SA, he could teach the current crop a thing or 2. Aaron Smith looks very simular to this class..
He is one the greatest rugby player of all time. Total shame he wasn't awarded the IRB Player of the Year in 2009. What a robbery!
2007 aswell
He is my favorite rugby player of all time.
One of our greatest scrumhalves ever. He and Joost vid W (rest in peace boet).
It's crazy we have him and Joost to pick from as best 9s in SA history. Different players but but both utter magic in their own way.
Yh the one against Argentina is great.
Best scrum half ever. Incredible skills and understanding of the game.
One of the greatest scrum halves of all time
His passing was fast and pinpoint. Amazing!
My all time favourite rugby player.
Me too
Also that pass by Danie Rossouw at 12:54 was pure magic! And everyone thought he was just a donkey
The finest 9 to ever grace the field. We were a real threat to the all blacks with him in the squad.
Nico Loubser you'd never sleep in a field, those quick restarts always led to a try..... after watching Faf de Klerk ystrday I believe he got Fourie's blood within him
Joost???
Gareth Edwards???
As a Kiwi I can definitely vouch for that.
in 2009 especially
This kind of tribute video mostly shows the tries scored by "tributee" himself, but IMHO what FDP is most good at is 'let one of your teammate score' (I believe he is one of the reason why B. Habana amassed 60+ tries in Green & Gold).
My all time best Springbok player.
Master.
Absolute beast much love from a New Zealand Born Samoan Tongan xoxo

yoe91 Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it! We are all about the rugby, nothing else. Stay subscribed!

Best 9 to walk earth
God I miss this legend
I miss him too

PartiZAn18 You have no idea how deep our archive goes... there are still plenty of videos on the way. Thanks for the support!
Best 9 ever to play for South Africa!!
This is the most I've ever heard Hugh Bladen say "UNBALEEEVABLEE!!"
He had one more double brandies and coke than usual that day. UNBELIEVABLE! \o/

Joost is GOAT but Fourie will not be forgotten.
Greatest scrummy to play the game ever. Absolute genius
One of the greats.
This man was a game general of note! Phenomenal player.
The amount of times he was able to score with 4 or 5 defenders in front of him just shows pure class and determination.
Fourie was far better than Joost Joost was as an individual brilliant but in a team structure Fourie had more discipline and was able to set his teammates up for tries

This man was an incredible player.
best halfback in the world by a strong margin
Legend!
His running style, especially at the acceleration stage reminds me of Joost.
FvP the best scrummie we've had. Did EVERYTHING you need and more.
Great pass.
Great kicking game.
Great anticipation.
Great reading of the play.
Great acceleration.
Great support play.

The best 9 to ever walk on earth
Fuck I miss this proper rugga, politics is just fucking up everything atm.
One of the best...
Great videos, any chance you could include years in the clips.
Andhesaid Thanks for the feedback. I have started doing it with the most recent tributes. I'll also update the others
Nice videos but all very much focussed on tries.
His box kicking was superb and an aspect of his game which is worth mentioning.
Joost Mehrtens True, but tries are easy to find. I don't have the time to go through 100's of games searching for box kicks...
Real Rugby fair enough, beggars can't be choosers.
btw can't get enough of Joosts video even though it lasts over an hour, nice compilation.
Joost Mehrtens thanks for the support! I'm glad you enjoy this channel
Great video! Underlines the Boks problems at 9 right now. Neither Far, Paige nor Reinach et Al snipe or are quick or tall enough
eiremike1 I think Faf is back though
What a try to finish off the clip!
This is probably controversial but IMO Fourie du Preez is the greatest of all time, not just the greatest scrumhalf, the greatest rugby player.
Why are none of his highlights against NZ teams.
Grand MASTER
FDP put together some of the greatest scrum-half exhibitions that I’ve ever been privileged to witness, and I’m a Wallabies fan who watched Gregan and Larkham carve up the best defences regularly.
Brilliant player remind me of Gareth Edwards
That ons prop on 52 seconds in is my father rudi durandt
Het gewonder waar daai laaste drie van hom was, was laaste, sy laaste drie ooit. Was belangrik ook.
Moerse belangrik!
Thanks for the channel, but just to note that rugby is about much more than tries.
To appreciate, eg, du Preez, more important would be his way actical kicks, assist passing, and fame management.
Yster.
Best of bests. 12:24 ⚡.
Jesus Christ did I just see a video from the Cats era?
12:09
second only to joost
shavanga a close second 😊
In my humble view Fourie was a better #9. Although I admit we are talking about different eras of the game.
I admire du Preez more because of his good sportmanship.
Different eras. Different type of game plan. He is the complete package, now lost to SA, he could teach the current crop a thing or 2. Aaron Smith looks very simular to this class..
Watching Faf de Klerk ystrdy on da SAvENG match I swear he's a Fouries Du Preez type
