There was also a pilot, Knight Rider 2010, that wasn't picked up and made into a TV movie and aired as part of Universal TV's Action Pack in syndication.
Always entertaining, thank you. They did not end up going with Trans Am Two Thousand because of the insistence of the Pontiac Motor Company. Also, not many of the physical vehicles used in the show survived because they had originally been sourced from cars that had been involved in a train derailment, which is actually why they had to be destroyed.
You missed a few things. A train carrying several Firebirds, Trans Ams, and Camaros derailed. While most of the cars were not damaged beyond repair, they were considered not fit to be sold to the public. Of course, this was a blessing for Knight Rider's production team. They were allowed to purchase the cars for $1 each under the condition they would be destroyed after the series ended. Some of the condemned cars also ended up in other TV shows such as Fall Guy. The Knight Rider theme is based on two pieces of music. You mentioned the classical piece however you forgot to mention the 1982 song by German composer Harry Thumann titled "Sphinx." Glenn Larson wanted to use it as the theme for Knight Rider but was unable to secure the license. So, he decided to make his own version of the song with help from Stu Phillips. You can't talk about the origin of the KR theme without mentioning Sphinx. It is essentially the most important inspiration for the KR theme. Knight Rider was not cancelled due to poor ratings. During its entire run, it never made the top 10. At the time it was cancelled, the ratings were within the average numbers it had been getting. The problem was it had a very high production cost. The network simply wasn't willing to renew it for a fifth season due to consolidating expenses.

The LP had the Marche Et Cortege De Bacchus... at first we thought it was a coincidence then it was confirmed at a DVD commentary, 30 yers later. I am a die hard knight rider fan, i wore black leather jackets when it rains, collected the toys (the knight 2000 voice car) and model kits (which im working on this summer). I was lucky to see KITT at the Universal Studios theme park (a kid from the Philippines crossed the pacific just to se KITT)... BTW, I think the car at universal rescued from being scrapped was the display for the KITT meet and gret. Ah, memories... thank you Minty.
I was exactly the right age in exactly the right location (midwest America) to enjoy this show when it debuted, but for some reason it didn’t hit with my peers; we pretty much watched it ironically from the beginning. The car driving into the back of the semi truck stunt was cool, however, and the ladies overall were … pretty exciting to the young teen boy crowd, as tame as 80s broadcast TV was. Now V, THAT was a show we tuned in for.
Speaking of Kenner, they did the M.A.S.K. line and there was a black firebird vehicle in that line, probably did as a homage to Knight Rider but I definitely pretended that was KITT as a kid.
I had a couple of Knight Rider toys, a sort of bracelet worn launcher thingy with KITT (come to think of it I think I had one for The Dukes of Hazard and CHiPS as well!), a Ruff Rider (correct spelling?!), basically a little fixed 4wd car powered by one double A battery and also the Knight Rider album which had some great photos and artwork in it!
I liked Team Knight Rider, but writing for 10 main characters per episode is tough to do. I think if the only had 3 humans and 3 cars it would allowed for better time for characterization.
I still watch this, really cheesy now but in its day it was so cool. I used to watch it at my gran's house on a Saturday afternoon. Airwolf video next?
man... I need to re-watch the series, it was part of my childhood... I had the car model and even one persona had one of the cars in my country... imagine walking on the street and KITT was driving around... that was epic

Do you think Kitt is a Cylon? he has this scanner, and early high A.I. When the Cylones invaded Earth, Knights Industries could have developed putty from Cylon parts, which would explain why the prototype Karr was quite a scumbag

Whoever cut together the photos from the tv series’ that Glen Larson wrote has a sick sense of humor using the scene from The Shining as the pic for B.J. and the Bear. It didn’t go unnoticed by me. Dirty, dirty fellas. 😉 😂
You could very easily do another 10 things about this iconic show. Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) as the voice of KARR… who also returned in the 2006 series as KARR again 👍
This was one of my favorite retro shows growing up. Being a 2000s kid, I watched bits and pieces of reruns. I ended up watching the show twice on Netflix, and I also have the first season on DVD.
Those cars had to be destroyed, as they were not street legal, so it was agreed on purchase that they would be destroyed after the filming. I have heard that they were part of a train crash, and were possibly written off for insurance purposes, or never had proper VINs, and the show was great advertising for the Trans Am.
As it is told on @KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial channel, it was a train crash and cars were write off, sold for filming purposes and meant to be destroyed after that. As those were probably no longer be able to be registered due having to be destroyed titles...
Yeah according to Knight Rider Historians(they have a great YT channel BTW) who actually owns some of the screen used cars, and the screen used tractor/trailer used to haul kit(they are currently restoring it) it was GM corporate that sold the cars to NBC, and Universal after the train derailment in California that was taking them to a car dealership, and they had VIN numbers from the factory but because of the train crash, and some US federal laws on highway safety at the time even if they where undamaged, they could not titled legal on road use, and GM could also not give the cars away either for risk of them being used on the road, so that's why they cost NBC, and Universal $1 each, with all the various stipulations, but GM made their money back in cheap advertising as sales for Trans AM cars went through the roof after the Knight Rider series came out, and NBC/Universal made bank getting plenty of dirt cheap cars for the show as they were low on cars, and funds to buy more cars needed for the show. So yeah Win Win for both parties involved

I would like to see Kitt and Michael Knight make Cameo appearances in Fast and Furious movies and Transformers movies😁😎
They literally made KARR (and, to some extent, KITT) into a transformer in the 2008 remake.
That's why u need to preserve what we had
Growing up for our kids cause they are our future u know ❤😊
I was exactly the right age in exactly the right location (midwest America) to enjoy this show when it debuted, but for some reason it didn’t hit with my peers; we pretty much watched it ironically from the beginning. The car driving into the back of the semi truck stunt was cool, however, and the ladies overall were … pretty exciting to the young teen boy crowd, as tame as 80s broadcast TV was. Now V, THAT was a show we tuned in for.
BJ and the Bear deserves its own top 10 breakdown..
Loved this show. I’ve got the talking Kenner Knight Rider car from the 1980’s.
God, I love Knight Rider. It's part of the reason I own an '84 Trans Am. I can't believe my car turned 40 this year!
We got Team Knight Rider on tv here in Australia in the late 90s. I remember enjoying at least 1 episode.
I liked Team Knight Rider, but writing for 10 main characters per episode is tough to do. I think if the only had 3 humans and 3 cars it would allowed for better time for characterization.
@@OmegaIIyou should look up what GlenLarson said about it. He said KNIGHT RIDER was THE LONE RANGER. Not having 6 guys and 6 cars talking.
I couldn't make it through 15 minutes with that show.
That theme music still holds up.
I still watch this, really cheesy now but in its day it was so cool. I used to watch it at my gran's house on a Saturday afternoon. Airwolf video next?
My Knight Rider big wheel kicked ass! Doing power slides with the handbrake was awesome.
man... I need to re-watch the series, it was part of my childhood... I had the car model and even one persona had one of the cars in my country... imagine walking on the street and KITT was driving around... that was epic
I re-watched a couple of years ago, it held up for me. I was surprised at how many young now A list actors were in various episodes.
Ahhh memories..... The Hoff and super persuit mode. Tnx for the vid Minty
I find interesting when you see the speed saying it’s going 100 mph and you get an exterior shot it looks like the car is only crawling along
Iconic '80's shows mentioned - check.
Iconic theme music mentioned - check
..
But no mention of MacGyver and it's best theme ever made in that part - totally unforgivable!
I'm a huge fan of MacGyver, I hum every time. Angus MacGyver and Michael Knight were my 2 favorites.
"BJ and the Bear," and Minty shows a screenshot from The Shining, LOL. You're a hot mess Minty, but we love you.
The best series of the 80's 😊😊
Do you think Kitt is a Cylon? he has this scanner, and early high A.I. When the Cylones invaded Earth, Knights Industries could have developed putty from Cylon parts, which would explain why the prototype Karr was quite a scumbag
I sat and had a talk with kit the car in 87 at universal studios ❤it was fun to be a kid in the 80s❤😊
No one who wasn’t sentient in the 80’s should remaking shows from the 80’s.
You cannot comprehend how different the world was before the 90’s ruined everything.
Makes since the Lone Ranger connection, love both shows.
You forgot about Knight Rider 2010 which was part of the Action Pack programming.
Glad to see you do a video on KR! It’s always been my favorite 80s TV Show! Great job Minty!!
I love Knight Rider and I think David Hasselfuff was the perfect choice for Michael Knight and for a long time I didn't even know that William Daniels was the voice of K.I.T.T. and I think Knight Rider was a great show in it's time and in my opinion still is cause I actually have the entire series on DVD and watch it from time to time.
Hasselfluff?
@@Floymin HaHa So I'm a lousy speller!
Not to mention the tv movie “Knight Rider 2010,” which came out in 1994 and starred Hudson Leick (Callisto from Xena).
Thanks for doing this one. Back in the 80s when I was a young teen, the other girls had pix of the Hoff on their walls; I was in love with the car.
as a teenager my mother gave me a budget to get a new car but i had to wheel and deal and got her to up it by a few K to get a 1992 firebird (this was in 1998) just because those models looked so close to KITT ...... lol.
Absolutely loved this show as a kid when it came out. 👍😊
How can we mention Garth, but leave out KARR 🤯 KITT's evil twin lol 😆
Exactly
@@mbryson2899Do you mean Garth & Goliath? KARR was in a season 1 & season 3 episode, whereas Garth was in two season two two-parters.
@@DoctorWhoBookClubplus KARR was voiced by Peter Cullen before he became Optimus Prime.
@@1969chgoodwinOnly the first time. Paul Frees (known for so many things including a number of Rankin-Bass Christmas specials and as the voice of the Ghost Host in the U.S. Haunted Mansions) voiced him the second time.
Right!!!!!
The steel frame picture you used for BJ & The Bear is actually still frame from The Shining. LOL.
If they make a reboot… it would just be Jason Momoa driving around in a Tesla Cyber Truck.
"He's...the night..mad max casual...aqua rider!"
Surprised Minty missed the fact that this show was a great part of what brought down the Berlin wall and the reason that the Hoff was at the wall singing that freedom song
Best show in TV history.
The BJ and the Bear gage made me spit my tea out!
“Knight Rider, a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of man who does not exist.
Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law."
word
“One man can make a difference, Michael.”
Minty is back baby!❤❤
I’m 44 that ending still gives me chills! Purple sunset
Definitely wasn't orange in American airings.
Everyone's favorite teacher / principal, Mr. George Feeny from the American TV show, Boy Meets World (September 1993 and May 2000) and unfortunately the spin off TV show Girl Meets World (June 27, 2014, to January 20, 2017) voiced Kitt! 🤯
Wow! You really do learn something new every day. Thanks, Minty! 💖😎
This was my favorite show on tv when i was a kid, never missed an episode and i even watch it time to time when i had the dvd set which have to get again but on blu ray. I had the toys, power wheel, lunch box as a kid too. I always thought that Garth Knight should of drove KARR in the series as Michael had KITT. Still a memorable series and always think its one of the best.
That car was the star in this for me.
I love tech stuff to this day.
I like the use of a clip from _The Shining_ as _BJ & the Bear_ 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Aside from Hasselhoff playing 2 roles, there was an episode or 2 where there was another Kitt vehicle named Karr.
