    Narrator: "The most stunning images the world has ever seen"
    Video: Will Smith dancing as a fish in Shark Tale

      Yup. The two main stages of any technology are
      1) New, exciting, interesting ⇒ unreliable, complicated, flaky.
      2) Reliable, commonplace, easy to use ⇒ old, boring, uninteresting.

    I've always wondered why some of the Autodesk tutorials seemed so obsessed with teapots.

    • @KingThrillgore
      @KingThrillgore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Utah Teapot was one of the first solid modeled shapes during Ed Catmull's time at the University of Utah, and its become a meme since.

    I love how they choose Shark Tale as an example for "beautiful animation"

    6:18 No, the facets were not “smoothed over”. Instead, a trick called “Phong shading” was invented, to make faceted geometry look smooth, while still actually remaining faceted. Go look it up.

    2:26 If you are wondering why the image is flickering, this was what was known as a “calligraphic” display. That means the electron beam is tracing out the lines of the image directly, not scanning a raster like in the CRT in the older TVs and computer monitors that you might be familiar with. This meant there was a maximum limit to the complexity of the image, since the more lines that had to be drawn, the longer it would take to draw them, until the flicker became intolerable.

    • @MichelPWeber
      @MichelPWeber 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I once worked as a production tech for medical equipment that drew the display on a CRT using that same method of 'drawing'. Had to adjust the yoke on the CRT as part of the production process.

    Don't forget "Tron," and also the Genesis device scene from "Start Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." That scene on ST was created by a company called Pixar.

    i don't think that only one person can create an animated film because the collective ideas of a group of people is what makes film so interesting. Then again, a novel is interesting and it is only the creativity of one person, so i may stand corrected.

  • @sompret

    No mainstream feature animated film can ever be made by a single person. It just cannot happen. As is a modern day CGI film takes around five or six years to make and HUNDREDS of artists and animators.

    • @icisne7315
