    Hello friends, I love to be prepared when I travel to foreign countries. Please share what’s inappropriate clothing in your country. Let’s all learn from each other 😊

      Why don’t you tell us about your actual country of origin, since you are not French. Would be nice to hear about your heritage, culture and your first language

      I feel that appropriate, when it comes to clothing, has gone out the window. However I feel that if you keep your wardrobe elegant and casual-elegant, you can’t really go wrong anywhere. Also, it’s a grain of salt, not pinch 😉 because a pinch would make you completely wrong.

      @@hautecouture2228 Hello Haute Couture :) I have replied to this question multiple times. I have long family history and ancestral roots in different countries. That is why I have been living accordingly in several countries. The country that I have chosen to call home is Italy and if you have watched my videos, you will know that I reside in Milan which is very dear and close to my heart. The other country where I have felt at home is France.
      I prefer not to share too much personal information because my TH-cam channel is dedicated to friendly beauty talks. Thank you for respecting my decision to keep some aspects and details of my private life to myself.

      In London individuality is revered above all else. No judgements made. Express yourself, that's the vibe - complete contrary to it's neighbour Paris where conformity reigns it seems.

      I wish there was more clothing considered inappropriate in the US. Almost anything goes. For me, classy, elegant, tailored, traditional and simple best describe my wardrobe. Thank you for your lovely videos.

    This is a great message, especially for Americans. Flip flops and pajama bottoms, that was a uniform awhile back. Wearing yoga pants all day, currently common. Thank you for keeping the standard high!

    • @connie5768
      @connie5768 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have never in my life worn pajama bottoms and flip flops outside my house. That uniform is only for the very crass who don't care about what looks appropriate or what people think. Seriously, we Americans are NOT all alike and many of us were brought up better than to wear such an outfit, if you can call it that.

    I appreciate you having the courage to create this video. In a time when some people seem to equate wearing lounge wear in public with exercising their freedom to express themselves, it was refreshing to listen to you state what impression that kind of outfit really makes -- and do it so graciously.
    One other drawback of very high heels: they throw off your posture and over time, that can cause serious back problems.

    • @Frenchforaday
      @Frenchforaday  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robin and thank you so much for watching my video! I fully agree with you. High heels start to cause back pain over time and they affect the posture negatively. Have a wonderful day! xoxo

    I live in America and I do no wear any of those items at any time. I have traveled to Europe as well. I see people in both places dress in this way. I feel it is a type of person more than a place. I commend you Angela for educating peolple. In my day these things were taught in the home and there were "finishing schools" that young women went to learn ettiquette and appropriate behavior. I am enjoying this series. Thank you.

    I agree with you on these rules, Angela! Here in Seoul, or in Korea in general you shouldn’t wear clothes that are too revealing. It is a little acceptable during the summer, but people cover it up with a cardigan or a jacket, especially if you are going inside some where. Thank you, thank you for your insight, Angela! I hope Angela and all of you have a great weekend! 🇫🇷💝❤️💕🤩👍🏻

    Appropriate clothing in the US depends on the region. In New York, there’s a more cutting edge toward fashion among younger women, while older women dress more classically: tailored trousers, pencil skirts, and sometimes playful tops. Clothing is often monochromatic. In Boston, women dress more conservatively, with lots of skirts, sweater sets, low heeled shoes. That’s not to say that jeans aren’t seen, but you will often see jeans paired with a shirt and the like. The further south you travel, the more colorful clothing becomes. Miami, with its tropical weather, is a good example. Bright florals, sandals and lots of skin. Women in the south, where I live, prefer brighter colors, light weight fabrics, sandals, cotton sweaters or wraps. My preference in the summer is linen, usually a sleeveless dress, often mid calf or ankle length, but in bright colors. My usual accessories are good sandals, a hat for the sun and a denim or linen jean style jacket for indoors are always at hand. I know that Europe had an unusually hot summer in 2022; Southern summers are hot and humid every year and we dress for the weather, which can last a good six months. (I live in sunscreen.) The only time that I see flip flops is on younger girls, before they learn that there are better footwear options available. Overall, I think American style is more casual and there are good and bad parts to that. Much of American style is influenced, too, by the fact that the majority of people do not live in a city with sidewalks and a vehicle is our main method of getting from one place to the other, so there is a sense of “just running into a store.” Thanks for this series. It’s so enjoyable!

      Hi Judith and thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a valuable comment. It's very interesting to learn how fashion trends change depending on the location. In Milan summers are unbearably hot so I'm used to a lot of sun but in the past few years we have heat waves in Paris too. Also I noticed that a lot of other EU countries are experiencing warmer weather. When I hear you speak about the southern states I start dreaming of a 6 months warm weather. I love the sun and the summer :) Have a wonderful Sunday! xoxo

    I forgot how formal Europeans dress as compared to Americans. Where I live, in an American affluent suburb, athleisure is the norm, unless one is working. It’s almost a subtle status symbol to dress casually, as if you don’t have to work.

    Totally agree with your suggestions- but not only for Paris. This would go for any big , cosmopolitan city. Safety would be my first concern then the appropriateness of the clothing.

    It's sad to say, most people do not take pride in themselves especially when visiting or at appointments. "Slob Couture" and off-the-rack Walmart is all I see. As for me, I never step foot outside without being "put together and color coordinated". Thanks Angela, I agree with your opinion.

      @Ely Aquino I have to agree with you. I like my classic and feminine style but I am not gonna run lengths to impose it on other women. If I may use my freedom of speech, I'll say " Let them be the ugly ones and I will be the beautiful one" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That is exactly how much I think of it.

    There are lots of clothing items in America I find inappropriate. 😅 The list would be to long for this page… We have become a very casual country. Flip flops and shorts in the winter even.I find anything see trough offensive.😮
    I lived in Italy for 2 years, my husband was in the USN . We were stationed in Geata❤❤❤. I was amazed how ,when I went to Rome , I could pick out all the American and other foreign tourists. 😅Shorts and Sandals🤣 Then they didn’t understand why they could not enter the Vatican with sleeveless shirts and tank tops. I did lots of research before we moved. I bought a capsule style wardrobe of blacks, grays, white. Added pieces ( beautiful florals) to that when we moved. I owned one pair of very dark blue jeans that were cut like dress slacks. I wore black flat shoes . I ALWAYS had a large scarf with me, so I could use it to cover my arms when we did do touristy things like going to the Vatican.
    Funny enough I still dress like this today. Simple comfortable, yet elegant.

      Hi Melissa, a huge thank you for the kindest words. I'm so happy to hear you had good impressions from Italy. That's true, a lot of tourists don't do research before going to the Vatican City and they end up being frustrated and disappointed. There are a lot of cultural differences. Thank you so much for sharing your tips. Have a wonderful day! xoxo

    Hi Angela. Happy weekend. Agree with you 100% on every point. I might add not to travel with expensive handbags. I had my bad experiences. Not only in Europe ( Madrid and Rome) but here in New York. Until I was told at the police station in N Y to not use them and that is better a big bag than a small one and they explained to me why. I see ladies wearing shorts and gym tops and flip flops in restaurants here in US. Why.?? XO🥰🥰

    Thanks for the video. I've seen several such videos but I sometimes think they fall on deaf ears especially among the younger generation in USA. In USA anything that shows every inch, crack, and ripple in your body becomes fashionable and WON'T go away. Leggings came and went and now "yoga" pants are in. Same with crop tops. They came and went away about 10-12 years ago but now they are back with a vengence! In other words Europeans use COMMON SENSE!!

    Totally true. I would add ‘baseball cap’. It is used during hiking in order to protect your head from burning. Also I would add “dressing from head to toe, I-Spent-2-hour-to-this-look” is not Parisian. Removing one or two things from your outfit is the key to have “relaxed but chic” look. Big thanks from Paris :-

    You totally nailed it! :) It's all about being discreet, done but not over-done, polished without being over-polished. And the unders are not good too. (sweat pants????arrgh!!!) Elegance is about being you, the comfortable, powerful, effortless you. And this is how we spot tourists in Paris or elsewhere: they wear loudly outfits with logos (we said it's about being you, not being the Chanel new advertisement media), they don't go outside without hair brushing and waves and nail polish.

    I agree with all of these. In any big city, flip flops or open sandals mean your feet are filthy as well as unprotected. Tip for the bandage dress: use it as the layer under mesh fashions, like a flowy, sheer dress. You'll stay cool yet covered at the same time. Same for a body suit. Seeing hints at your figure is much sexier than letting all of the flesh spill out. For t-shirts, same goes in NYC: don't wear a t-shirt with the Statue of Liberty or the "I

    I only wear heels to galas (which happens once or twice per year) and I no longer think heels look all that beautiful. Really dressy ballet flats dress up an outfit just fine, and I think there's an untapped market for a manufacturer to come in to design flats that are gorgeous plus healthy for a woman's feet.

    I am a native New Yorker. I totally agree with you regarding flip flops. Beach only. Crocs, Uggs and Birkenstocks are other types of footwear that I think should be avoided. New York City is similar to Paris in that it's a city where you do a lot of walking. Comfortable chic is the way to go here as well. Gym clothes outside of the gym needs to go. Baseall caps on men other than at a ball game makes me nuts. Especially in restaurants where they keep them on at the table. Cargo shorts should be limited to casual summer days. When did it become okay to wear them out to dinner or any other kind of night out?

    I agree with your list, Angela, especially those big logo stuff. Its like why? The clothes style , the details should scream the name of the designer, not the logo. Thats why i love those more older from KL collections. You look at the dress, no big logos, all over, but it just has that chanelesque effect. Thats why i never liked no Fendi, no LV , its all in that logo monogram, and new Chanel also Logos all over, and very little design. Why i would want to wear/ advertise their brands ? Nobody is paying me, and i have to pay crazy money to advertise their brand? No thank you. And definitely no style nor elegance in it Have a blessed day🙏🧡

      Hi Maria :) It depends on my outfit and plans for the day: I like elegant flat sandals or sandals with a small heel that are elegant and comfortable, elegant loafers and ballerina shoes. I really choose depending on the occasion and my outfit. But my number one rule is that the shoes must be comfortable. I walk a lot during the day and I believe that comfortable and elegant shoes are important for our health and to keep the posture beautiful. xoxo

    What shoes to wear spring time in Paris?

    • @Frenchforaday
      @Frenchforaday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Pamela :) Spring time in Paris is very pleasant. It's the best season to be in Paris. It's not too hot but there is enough sunshine and occasional rains during the day. It depends on your style, preference and the occasion. I would suggest comfortable and elegant loafers, ballerina shoes (if you feel comfortable in those. I know some people don't like them). If you are planning to walk a lot and explore the city then some elegant sneakers is a great choice too. I wouldn't wear sandals because it often rains so I personally don't like open toe shoes in the spring. xoxo

    Rather than "traditional" I believe that Europeans dress with a level of sophistication and class that their North American counterparts haven't yet developed. Celebrities, with great wealth but no class are very influential, and tend to dress in head to toe logos rather than a defined style. Also, they have little sense of dressing appropriately for specific occasions, with little respect for host or function, in the name of "self expression " otherwise known as FU

      Hi Margaret :) Thank you so much for the lovely words. In the past years I started to see a lot of the 'celebrity' style fashion among the younger generation in Europe too. I think a lot of the younger Europeans try to imitate the looks of Instagram celebrities. I respect everyone's choice but at the same time it's sad to see people trying to copy certain outfits without thinking about their own personality and style. Social medias have huge impact on the younger generations and it's not always positive. Have a beautiful day and thank you for watching my videos! xoxo

      Hi Maria, Please bear in mind that cities like Los Angeles and London are quite unique and they are multinational and multicultural. That's why you see alI styles. I have visited both Los Angeles and London and I love them. When you visit a foreign country, you want to experience different culture and it's best to know some basic habits and expectations of the local people. Otherwise you might end up having very unpleasant experiences. I remember a few years ago there was a celebrity that had the worst possible experience in one European city (not Paris) because they were not allowed in a store because of they way they dressed. Imagine how embarrassed and humiliated that person felt. This often happens in London too. Even though you can see all kinds of styles on the street, you may not be allowed into certain establishments because there is "face control". So my video is intended to prevent such negative experiences and will be useful for people who are planning to visit Paris or live there.
      All countries are different. We travel to explore :) so why not have the best experience while travelling.

These fashion rules/tips may very well be true of the rest of Europe but there is nothing elegant, chic or even comfortable about Irish women's fashion.You will see everything you listed here and worse on the streets of Dublin! After walking around Paris for 3.5 weeks, my feet were swollen and blistered from wearing my elegant flats. My only option was a pair of flip flops, which did not rub on my blisters. I had a choice to either hang out in my apartment, or wear the flip flops and keep exploring. While I appreciate your intention is to educate the generally poorly-dressed tourist, please don't be so condescending as to think everyone who dons a pair of flip flops doesn't have style. I'd rather keep exploring the fabulous sites of beautiful cities around the world than be confined to an apartment because my attire is "unacceptable".

I have already addressed the issue of flats and tourists. It's not the best option :) I wanted to make two different videos on this topic because it allows me to give more tips on the 'what to wear' part. I worked a lot on the two videos because I wanted to give solutions and to be as useful as possible. And of course, you can wear whatever you like. Fashion is all about expressing yourself. xoxo

    I haven’t seen a single woman wearing high-heeled (more than 3 inches), pointy, stiletto pumps in real life here (San Francisco) since the 90s. They are always laughed at here as pretentious and absurd, this, like Paris, is a walker’s city. Good riddance, I say! I love a 2-inch or so block heel, but comfort is priority one. But overall, the vast majority of people wear black or gray gym wear everyday, everywhere. I hate it, it’s just a conformist uniform, it lacks all individuality, creativity and fun, and it’s not even a comfortable one. The last thing I want to wear is tight, sweaty polyester and spandex body suits all day. I love wearing my proper, tailored clothes, like skirts, dresses, trousers, shirts, sweaters and blazers, in natural fibers. It’s a pleasure to put together and wear a beautiful outfit everyday, style can and should be enjoyable. It’s a punishment to wear loungewear or pajamas all day, it’s something I only do if I’m stuck home, sick in bed.

    Sorry to say but I find videos like this one a little offensive. People come to Paris for different reasons and dress accordingly. Personally I often am photographing in Paris and In that case I dress as stylishly as possible but prioritize comfortable casual clothes and gear which may include (Heaven forfend!) leggings, camera backpack, all day walking shoes, even the dreaded fanny pack to avoid carrying a purse. And no one ogles me with distain. I don’t look like a Parisienne on her way to work. So what?
    When not photographing in Paris, just like in a US city, I dress it up a notch.
    My point is, people’s objective is not always to be fashion plates when they travel. Deal with it.
