It’s so normal for cousin marriage in the Lebenese culture as well. I know 2 sisters that married their cousins (which are brothers as well) Fast forward their kids married each other and had kids. But if you think about it, if you’ve never met your cousin, and you know that you’re cousins with them, but you’ve never met them, sometimes feelings could develop. I have family members who are cousins, and they didn’t grow up together, so that’s why they fell in love The majority of babies born to couples who are blood relatives are healthy. Whilst cousin marriage increases the risk of birth defect from 3% to 6%, the absolute risk is still small. Cousin marriage only accounts for a third of birth defects. It’s also not considered incest, incest is only considered, when people marry their cousins and their cousins cousins for generations, and when people marry their brothers/sisters, fathers/mothers It takes more than a one-off marriage between two first cousins to make a child inbred. Inbreeding tends to occur in small isolated communities where all the families have been intermarrying for generations. Modern transport and education has made this less of an issue in the West over the last century or so.
