As a Caterpillar Heavy truck mechanic back in the 80’s & 90’s I always asked customers what brand oil they used . The truckers with the cleanest internal parts during maintenance or overhauls almost without question used either Shell Rotella , or Chevron Delo 400 oils . Nothing else came close to keeping them alive & in such great conditions internally . One customer who owned a 1967 Peterbilt and drove for Mayflower moving company had an astounding 1 million miles on his Caterpillar model 1693 engine before we had to finally remove it to do a complete major overhaul, and I remember the crankshaft only needed a polish on main & rod journals to be reused !! The rest of components were also in remarkably great shape considering. It mainly needed all new seals and gaskets & normal wear parts replaced . He did regular maintenance at recommended intervals , which I’m sure helped , but for an almost 30 years he drove it up until our overhaul it never left him stranded , and he said he had lost count of how many times he had gone coast to coast moving peoples belongings . I use Either of those 2 oils in my own 2002 LB-7 Duramax , and can only hope to get 1 million miles out of my rig !🤞😉
