I’ve always taken my truck into the Goodwrench guys that I’ve known for years. This week (10/8/24), I went in for oil change and filter (my own AMSOIL 15W-40 and AMSOIL filter), new batteries and fuel filter. Dealership under new owner… all “old” mechanics and service managers gone. No DELCO batteries in stock. No GM fuel filter in stock. Went to different GM dealership. Got batteries, fuel filter, etc.. $400 for parts, $350 for labor. Labor rates now $160 an hour… and that’s in Wyoming, where they pay mechanics $20 an hour. I’m close to 80, but still decent enough shape to care for my livestock AND my 1984 K2500 6.2 diesel. Might have to start working on my 3500HD Duramax now too. I’ve always changed the fuel filter, and Allison spin-on with each oil change…. Annually or 10,000 miles. Pull oil sample for lab analysis every oil change… never a problem noted. 205,000 miles now. Bone stock except for delete which bumped my highway mpg to 25.

thank god for your video straight forward no bs made it super simple and I'm confident I can change mine now. I've watched other videos and they made it look so hard that I've left my filter in the back of my truck not wanting to do it until now
Use an actual water sensor wrench. You can buy one for like $8. And take it off while the filter is still on the truck, so that you don't have to struggle holding it with both hands.
Thank you very much, for making this video. I'm about to change my fuel filter on my 2016 crew cab 2500HD diesel. I've only owned the truck for about a month and it's my 1st diesel 😁👍
Thank you! So that would be a LML Engine. Good Engine. But the high pressure fuel pump is a time bomb for your Engine. It has the CP4 model. Look into getting a CP3 model. Just my opinion.
My Water Sensor has a piece of plastic debris located of top flush valve the piece of plastic stick on the black Sensor part maybe is the cause to send a code p0089 fuel pressure regulator I have any issue with my truck just the code light came and go I replaced filter and new sensor hopefully the check engine lights gone
Just bought an AC Delco fuel filter for a 2001 Duramax. The large o-ring will not sit inside the groove. I compared it to the old filter (china-made), and it seems the gap is slightly larger, letting the o-ring sit snugly. Not the case for the new AC Delco
Had my 2016 GMC 2500 shut down on me on the highway. Dash said to change fuel filter . I watched a few videos on here and changed my filter with no problem but when trying to start it back up it wouldn’t start . I primed the fuel pump before starting. I need help and any comments are appreciated.
I've noticed on my 2015 LML, when I go and thread on a new fuel filter, the fuel filter does not just thread on easy. I feel like I have to push up on the filter while simultaneously threading it on. Once its starts it threads on no problem and I have checked closely the fuel filter housing is not crossed threaded. I have wondered since I have owned the truck if this is normal, never had a problem with it leaking or a hard start. Anyone else?
@@packwoodperformance4x474 I did ..disconnect two batteries For reset it but the warning light "water in fuel" still there , truck starts great, runs great , no check engine lights on but after change fuel filter & new sensor suddenly appeared that water in fuel warning light in dash , I did filled up with diesel the filters no need to use the pump for recharge filter I always did this way and never had issues
Does the primer bulb supposed to stay firm? My doesn't on my lbz and my engine light stays on. I've bled it a few times it goes off again and my primer bulb needs priming again? It doesn't stay firm. Is it bad. ?
This is great video but I do have a question. The bleeder screw that is plastic. If the screwdriver don’t work because the top of it is wore down what would be the best way to open it?
The Plastic Bleeder Screw is a 13mm head with a flat head groove on top. If you can't get it with a 13mm socket, try a small flat screw driver. But heat it up a little to melt into the plastic. Time for a new one also.
Yep, I have a 2007 GMC & I can work with it & get it from the top, But bought a 2007.5 GMC Duramax ( new body style) for my daughter, and was looking to change hers, And it’s just too tight from the top, I was hoping not to have to remove the fender well, But don’t see any realistic way around it. Unfortunately… I was hoping someone might have a magic secret.
Agreed. That little screw cracked on me years ago. My truck was down for a week as no shops in town stocked this item. A .20 screw cost me a bunch of profit by sitting on my thumbs.
Well come to find out it was never the fuel filter. The fuel pump was being eroded from the inside. The metal was breaking down and is ALL in my filter and lines. $15,000 to get fixed. This certainly a manufacturer GM problem.!! On the way they made the 2016 Duramax Chevy
@@packwoodperformance4x474 thanks for answering my question. With my screw halfway in, it goes from fuel with bubbles to solid squirt of fuel. I figured it out after doing it. Your video of course cannot anticipate everyone’s experience. I am definitely not a mechanic so the smallest detail easily thwarts me
I'm not sure about the question. You mean reset the life timer on the infotainment system? You go to where it says change fuel filter, and hold down the ☑ to reset the timer or life counter
Trying to get new fuel filter screwed on but with big seal over center hole I can’t get it up to threads. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong. If I pull that center seal off it goes right on. Where it screws on the center is domed out down toward filter. It has a little button on it. Any advise?
Well done video. The wheel splash liner makes easy access.Curious has created or made a small door or ? So you don’t have to remove the entire wheel well liner? Reason being is the bolts I have are attached to mud flaps etc and makes it more complicated. A smaller easy access door would be great. thanks
To be honest I’m doing this today for the 3 time for a customer. I just reach my arm up behind the inner fender, it’s flexible. Turn this into 15 min job. Gotta turn and burn make them dollars.
I believe 10,000 to 15,000 is what GM says. Or every other oil change. I change mine when the truck says to. And that seems to be about every 12,000 miles.

How do you reset the oil life of the fuel filter?
Also after change Fuel filter & new sensor water separator appears in dash light "water in fuel" so know how I could reset that light? Anybody?
I've never had that happen??? Unhook the battery for 5 min to reset.

Doing my truck and I keep pressing on the button to bleed and nothing comes out. What could be the problem
It takes a bit as it is filling the fuel filter. If nothing still. Your prime plunger may be defective.
Does the system recognize it as a new filter or do you need to reset it?
You reset it. The same as you reset the oil life when you change it on the dash.
Good video. I’ve been afraid to attempt this prior to now, but the dealer in town has gone full rouge and I’m done with them.
I hate dealerships as well. If you use Amazon, shop on there. AC Delco actually sells on amazon. Much cheaper than any parts store or dealership.
Buy a water filter sensor wrench for $8.99. It will keep your sensor from getting rounded
Prime it until the primer bulb is hard, then start it. Crank will be extended at first. Don’t give up!

Highly recommend replacing that factory bleeder screw on the top with a metal screw. The plastic will crack if stressed too much.

Great video, very easy to see what you're doing. The only bummer thing about your video is you're going to be needing tires soon $$$$
After trying to start it the primer button needed to be pushed again..it was loose
Hmmm. Check to make sure everything is tight. After all the air is out it should be good.

Frustration: you skipped the crucial part showing priming FF after bubbles come out
Do you pump until solid stream of fuel?
I didn't skip it. Very little bubbles come out. Should not be able to shoot a solid stream because the bleeder screw is still in there. It leaks out

My truck has white smoke when idling and stepping in gas I just changed my fuel filter and oil and oil filter any ideas why it’s still smoking
Clogged injectors maybe.
When the truck has blueish white smoke. Means not enough fuel. Black smoke is alot of fuel.
Unrelated question how did you get those new style running boards to fit on this truck?
They make the new style knock off set that fit.
Good content but how do u reset the change fuel filter message?
If you don't have steering wheel controls you turn key to Acc. Then press and hold gas and brake peddles at 100% for 10 seconds.
Is there one in tank?

That is a good idea.. Newer Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge pick ups have a little spin off cap style door to change light bulbs in the fender well.

Yes.
How do u reset the percentage used in the dash?
If you have steering wheel controls. There's one that looks like a enter button on a computer. You hold that for 10 seconds.
