I wouldn’t say direct hire is less competition. It really means the hiring manger can be more selective. but still it’s a good way for civil servants and the public to get a position.

It doesn’t matter it’s direct hire or not, government jobs any position it takes more than a year. It’s slow process. Every single process takes 3 months. I took the test it takes 3 months they tell me the results I pass. After 3 months they call me for interview and performance test,after that 3 months later an other interview and performance test after second interview they hired and an other couple months doing background checks probably after an other month they may sand drug test. That’s with perfect record what about others?

Beau, I was there too as former vet that eventually landed my 1811 job. You need to keep trying and work on the key words in your usajobs resume to figure the best way to get through and get referred. Best of luck!

I got a referral sent to hiring manager for direct hire position. The job opened up 1/1/2020 and will close 7/2020. Does that mean I will have to wait until it closed to get hired on?

I've been a Federal employee for over 14 years (DoD), and have never heard of anyone ever getting hired this way.

I applied for a direct hire position and application moved from received to referred. Haven’t heard anything in a while so wondering how long does it take? My background is from local government so there is some wait time when it comes to getting hired so I am aware of that. I guess I’m wondering if for federal employment it takes longer.

Subscribed! Great and valuable information out out. Thank you so much. I use to work Govt contracting and had a NACI clearance in 2014. Would I need an actual secret clearance to be looked at or they will go with my NACI when it says secret clearance required?
They will need to upgrade your clearance to a secret level and you would have to complete the SF86 form.

Was let go from Transportation Security Administration while coming up on 3 years employment, due to my STSO targeting my every misstep and convincing Management I was unfit. HR responded that after 3 years of being "debarred", I may apply again. June 23rd made 3 years. When I apply again, will my service continue or will I have to start over?

Are there any cons with direct hire? Such as... if you are already a GS worker..been in the system for 10 years will you have to start your 2 year probation over?

Make sure you attached your SF-50 form in your applications or get a copy from HR to show that you were a previous worker!
