@@Chloe_Raine I agree Harry needed to get over the prefect thing, but he definitely did not have everything he could ever ask for. Harry was always low key jealous of Ron because Ron had what Harry didn't - family. And that makes sense considering Harry's upbringing.

@@tbird2249 I absolutely love how layered this is. The boys loved each other first and foremost, but always felt insecure about the things they didn't have that the other did. For Harry, it was family and a loving home life, parents who were alive and actually cared what happened to him. For Ron, it was feeling valued and respected, to not have to worry about money and affording things, to be recognized for his own merits and being good at something that was his. Both boys longed to be "normal" and found that normality they craved in their friendship with each other. Beautiful 🥲

What makes me sad is that not only do the movies make Ron seem like the third wheel, they also take away his charm, smarts, and his loyalty. Part of what makes that fight with Harry in the 7th book so devastating is that it is so out of character for him. And that makes the fact that he came back that much more powerful. One of my favorite lines in DH is when Ron says:
"He must have known I'd run out on you."
    To which Harry replies:
"No, he always knew you'd want to come back."
Like, his FUNDAMENTAL character trait is his loyalty and bravery, and the movies totally ruined that. They make him seem like a tag-along who is forced to do things "just because," when that couldn't be further from the truth.
Sorry for the Essay, but Ron is my favorite character and the way he was treated in the movies breaks my heart.

Devil Snare trial was more of a group effort, so they changed that to be Hermione's trial instead.
Meanwhile, Ron still got his own wizard chess trial later where he could show off his awesomeness.

Yes, I know. I'm just speaking specifically about the Devil Snare scene. I understand that Ron was done very dirty later in the series, but I don't think the Devil Snare scene is quite as bad as other examples. The only thing they really did wrong was make him act overly panicked during the scene.

The movies did Ron dirty in several ways. They portrayed his as stupid, disloyal, and cowardly. Book Ron was Harry's ride or die the whole time. The ONLY time he wasn't at Harry's side was when he was literally being mentally tormented by the soul of freaking Voldemort every time he wore the Horcrux.
Did he make mistakes? Sure. He was a teenager in the middle of a war. He had insecurities and hangups and was a teenage boy (and let's face it, all of us are damn stupid during those years), but he was loyal to his friends, brave and honourable, and was always ready to throw hands in Harry or Hermione's defense. I love how in the movie you had Hermione’s hair pulled back, but it the book one it was more similar to how it’s actually described, kinda like how the movies had her hair as described for one movie and then just forgot about it. Idk if that was on purpose but either way it’s kind of funny

I've always kinda felt a bit upset at the fact that she also never had long front teeth. I know little Emma found it difficult to speak with the fake teeth but that plot sort of was important for Hermione's development and her duck to swan metamorphose. Instead we have beautiful Emma come down the stairs princess-like when she was already gorgeous and put together.

But from all appearance changes Harry's not-messy hair bothered me the most. And the fact that he hadn't Lily's eyes. Okay, Dan couldn't wear contact lenses. But they could've at least made sure that Lily's actress had the same eye color. That was SO important.

@@jollyquinn430 I can understand that. As you can tell he is one of my favourites but mainly in the books. In my experience and most of the people I have spoken to about Harry Potter that have a sore opinion of Ron base it all off of characteristics he was given in the movies. Which I feel is an unfair assumption. I don't understand the people who don't like him but have only seen the movies because they only have the perspective of a director who very much preffered hermione and made that clear in his retelling of the original series. You don't have to love him and I love people who have read the books who can come at me with reasons they don't like Ron (or any other character) that align with the books more than the movies because the movies did ruin his character massively.
But most people I've met that have read the books, even if he isn't their favourite character, they still like him because he's a full person and is generally a more positive and likable person. Unlike the movies where he is whiny to the point of being annoying (which I know he cam be in the books) without having the good qualities to offset that side of him because they were all given to hermione instead.

I wouldn't say I hate him but he is definitely not that great of a charecter in the books. He gets jealous so easily and takes that out on the people around him and I don't like the way he tries to control Ginny's relationships. Luna is my favourite character LOL

@@leobeboop4944 The only reason I dislike characters is when they're poorly written. Ron is a brilliantly written character exactly for those character flaws you pointed out. He seems so much more human when we see him do dumb stuff that makes us mad. And then when he overcomes it, we feel satisfied because we saw who he was and who he becomes. All this to say: you can absolutely dislike a character for whatever reasons you want, but if all our characters are perfect from the get-go (never give in to jealousy, hatred, moments of weakness) then the story would be boring.
