I love watching your videos and learning more ways to create a variety of HCC snacks. My ten-year-old has dysautonomia and suffers from low BP, vertigo, and syncope episodes. We started giving her salt balanced HCC snacks, and it's made a tremendous difference in her symptoms when combined with medication and lifestyle changes. She's finally getting to be a kid again. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am for the realistic and attainable education you're providing.

I have dysautonomia & it can be CRIPPLING!! Thankfully I didn't have to deal w/ a bad case as a child, so I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to be limited like that at such a young age. I'm glad she has such a good support system!
Fun story of #TheStruggle : Yesterday, I had the worst flare I've had in a long time because I was out of one of my meds & like... It was hard for me to even get up to get my much needed salt fix! I had to crawl over to the kitchen just to lick some salt crystals off my hand & drink some juice. Then I layed down on the couch until my bf got home w/ the refill. 😂🤣

The really hard part about all diet-related research is that it's not happening in a vacuum - people make dietary choices for reasons. That's part of why going on a diet is more strongly correlated with weight gain than weight loss; if losing weight is easy for you, you don't bother going on a diet.

Thank you for addressing the coffee with cortisol problem. My husband showed me a tiktok video where a guy was saying this is why it's bad to drink coffee right away. immediately I knew something was wrong and told my husband to not believe it. The guy made it all sound too simple and we all have different lifestyles and health concerns. He didn't even mention how caffeine diminishes it's effect on us the more we drink it.

The first study you cited on dairy, “serial measures of circulating biomarkers…”, only included adults older than 65. When they died, it deciphered which deaths were from cardiovascular disease. It looked at the amounts of acids (which come from several foods, not just dairy fats) and their correlation with CVD. This study, at best, is only relevant to elderly adults.
The second study stated that “In 11 of 16 studies, high-fat dairy intake was inversely associated with measures of adiposity.”
That means that 5 of the studies still associated dairy fat with obesity. There are also many more beyond those 5 studies.
The citations for the study are Mario Kratz and the European Journal of Nutrition.
Mario Kratz has also done studies showing that, according to him, cholesterol is not associated with disease.
A large amount of studies that show such positive affects of dairy, particularly high fat dairy, are funded by the dairy industry.
The European Journal of Nutrition itself has quotes from other studies that go against this one study.
“Circulating IGF-1 concentrations have been associated with higher cancer risk, particularly prostate, breast and colorectal cancer… Our findings support the hypothesis that dairy and milk intake are associated with higher IGF-1 concentrations.” (Association of dietary intake of milk and dairy products with blood concentrations of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in Bavarian adults)
    SFA- saturated fatty acids
    MUFA- monounsaturated fatty acids
    PUFA- polyunsaturated fatty acids
“Our modelling suggests that substituting dairy SFA with meat SFA is associated with a higher risk of CHD, but substituting dairy MUFA or PUFA with meat FA is not. These results need to be replicated in other cohorts with different fat intakes, preferably with larger variation in the intake of MUFA and PUFA from dairy and meat.”
It is impossible to get any fat from dairy without a concentrated source of saturated fat.
The 3rd study you put on dairy was largely inconclusive, citing both negative and positive effects of dairy. The positive effects were largely attributed to probiotics and amino acids which can be found in a variety of other foods. The study you cited even says, “Notably, studies concerning the influence of milk consumption in women with PCOS are scarce, so its beneficial effect may not be explicitly confirmed in this group of patients. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct well-designed extensive research in women with PCOS to lead to the final conclusion as to whether milk product consumption is beneficial in their case and which products should be selected: full-fat or skimmed ones.”
Lack of evidence is not evidence for safety or health benefit: it is quite the opposite. If something should be studied more, it should not be presumed safe or healthy just because the evidence that it is unsafe or unhealthy doesn’t exist yet. It took over 50 years for doctors to realize smoking was dangerous: until then, smoking was actually recommended. In Europe, the approach of “unsafe until proven safe” counters the approach of the USA. It’s not a coincidence that Europe is much healthier.
Higher fat dairy has higher concentrations of hormones, so it is certainly not ideal for PCOS.
If dairy was a supplement or herbal formula, you would say that results are mixed and inconclusive and therefore proceed with caution.

As someone with PCOS... That developed serious health problems with the vegan diet. Going back to high fat dairy products and fatty meats and getting my carbs to a minimum.. Did wonders for me. When it comes to PCOS we all know it's the carbs that are problamatic. Going low fat low protein will most make sypmtoms worse.

Here are studies that are not biased by the dairy industry’s funding:
    - “Higher intakes of dairy milk were associated with greater risk of breast cancer, when adjusted for soy intake. Current guidelines for dairy milk consumption could be viewed with some caution.” (Dairy, soy, and risk of breast cancer: those confounded milks)
    - Circulating odd-chain fatty acids pentadecanoic (15:0) and heptadecanoic acid (17:0) are considered to reflect dairy intake. In cohort studies, higher circulating 15:0 and 17:0 were associated with lower type 2 diabetes risk. A recent randomized controlled trial in humans suggested that fiber intake also increased circulating 15:0 and 17:0, potentially resulting from fermentation by gut microbes… In our cohort of post-MI patients, circulating 15:0 was associated with dairy intake but not fiber intake, whereas circulating 17:0 was associated with both dairy and fiber intake. These data suggest that cardiometabolic health benefits previously attributed to 17:0 as a biomarker of dairy intake may partly be explained by fiber intake.” (Associations of dairy and fiber intake with circulating odd-chain fatty acids in post-myocardial infarction patients)
    - “Two of the seventeen food groups analyzed (dairy products and baked products) were significantly associated with increased testicular cancer risk in all three analyses (Table IV). Luncheon meat consumption was associated with a significant increase in risk in the total sample and among non-seminoma cases. The intake of cheese was strongly associated with testicular cancer risk (Table V)…Subjects consuming high levels of dairy products demonstrated an elevated risk of testicular cancer.” (Subjects consuming high levels of dairy products demonstrated an elevated risk of testicular cancer.)
    - “The IGF-1 may be either absorbed from milk, or stimulated by its ingestion, or both. The 5alpha-reduced compound 5alpha-pregnanedione (5α-P) present in milk is a direct precursor of dihydrotestosterone and may act through that pathway in prostate cancer, but 5α-P has also recently been shown to be capable of inducing estrogen receptors in breast cancer cells, upregulating cancer cells' sensitivity to estrogen.” (Acne, dairy and cancer, Dermato Endocrinology)
    - “Dietary calcium intake is not associated with risk of fracture, and there is no clinical trial evidence that increasing calcium intake from dietary sources prevents fractures. Evidence that calcium supplements prevent fractures is weak and inconsistent.” (Calcium intake and risk of fracture: systematic review)
    - “Modern genetically improved dairy cows continue to lactate throughout almost the entire pregnancy. Therefore, recent commercial cow's milk contains large amounts of estrogens and progesterone… After the intake of cow milk, serum estrone (E1) and progesterone concentrations significantly increased, and serum luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and testosterone significantly decreased in men. Urine concentrations of E1, estradiol, estriol and pregnanediol significantly increased in all adults and children.” (Exposure to exogenous estrogen through intake of commercial milk produced from pregnant cows)
    - “At the same time, the anabolic signals by IGF-1 (or insulin) can promote tumour development by anti-apoptosis effect and also by stimulating cell proliferation (30). During the last years according to the epidemiological evidence accuracy of the hypothesis is promoting, which indicates the risk of the colon, pancreas, endometrium, breast and prostate tumours are associated to the high level of IGF-1, insulin, or both…. Among the others, cortisol as the predominant glucocorticoid, is taken up from blood by the mammary glands of goats and cows (41, 42)... The concentrations of hormones (ng/mL) in cow’s milk. It is found that due to widespread utilize of dexamethasone as a synthetic glucorticoid, in veterinary medicine, for treatment of metabolic diseases in ruminants, e.g. ketosis, and of inflammatory diseases in other animals, maximum residue limits in milk and other tissues could be raised (45). Moreover, another study showed that following treatment of the lactating Holstein cows by adrenocorticotropic hormone the milk cortisol level increased four-fold and that increase was due to sustained increase in plasma corisol level (46). At the same time, stressful conditions such as transport, neuronal diseases, diet changes, environmental alteration including temperature changes and hundreds other stress producing factors might elevate the levels of GCs in milk… Estrogens play a critical role in most metabolic, behavioural and morphological requirements, which are essential in reproduction of the female vertebrates. There is no doubt that estrogens govern important activities including metabolic reactions in male, too (71). During the last decades huge amounts of studies have been performed to screen the presence of exohormones in the human environment, which these efforts have led to increasing concern about their impact on wildlife and human health… Almost, all foodstuffs of animal origin contain 17β-estradiol and its metabolites, although the levels of hormone and its metabolites vary with the kind of food, gender, animal species, age and physiological condition of the animals. Thus, estrogens are unavoidable hormones in non-vegetarian human nutrition. Previous studies have shown that about 60-80% of estrogens come from milk and dairy products in western diets (75)... Recent epidemiological studies indicate a very strong relation between milk and dairy products, high consumption and high incidence of testicular and prostate cancers (76)… The main source of animal-derived estrogens (60-70%) in the human diet is milk and dairy products (83). Recently, free and conjugated forms of estrogens including 17β-oestradiol, estrone and estriol (Fig. 1), have been detected and quantified (90)… In summary, it seems that steroid hormones are very potent compounds in dairy foods, which exert profound biological effects in animals and humans.” (Hormones in Dairy Foods and Their Impact on Public Health - A Narrative Review Article)
    - “Dioxins are a group of chemically-related compounds that are persistent environmental pollutants (POPs). Dioxins are found throughout the world in the environment and they accumulate in the food chain, mainly in the fatty tissue of animals. Dioxins are highly toxic and can cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer… Trimming fat from meat and consuming low fat dairy products may decrease the exposure to dioxin compounds.” -World Health Organization

Especially as I feel like being overweight and eating anything deemed 'not good' despite otherwise balanced diet is often judged in society. Also, it could be a confidence boost for those doing a great job with balance.

    • @nikkiq5124
      @nikkiq5124 ปีที่แล้ว +29

Yes you do. But there are lots of fun ways to spruce up your meals to make it sustainable. Even if you want to follow Abbey’s meals just go for lower calorie substitutes for some ingredients. Honestly that’s what I do for everything lol. If I want to eat pizza, I make it at home but use lower calorie sauce, fat free (or low fat) mozzarella, lower fat pepperonis, veggies, and some sort of lower carb yet high fiber crust. If you approach things that way you feel less deprived and still full while hitting your weight loss goals.

I can not drink black tea because of the tannins, it ALWAYS makes my stomach hurt. Only black tea does this, no other tea. I'm an exotic pet keeper and I know that tannins are found in leaves, wood and other things found in nature. I bet coffee has a lot of tannins that causes issues to people if they drink it on an empty stomach. Every time I put new wood or leaves into my fish tank, I soak them to remove some of the tannins which turns the water into a tea colour. Coffee is very dark just like tea, so my theory is that tannins are causing the issues in some people, not cortisol.

Is the obesity thing because of a property of dairy fat or is it because higher obesity permeates people who diet the most and those, until very recently, include fat restriction? Also, the protection against heart diseases is found in vegetable sources fats as well? Or only dairy? What if the study was ordered by the dairy industry?

Why do we support intuitive eating but not the intuitive drinking? Food can be as addictive and as harmful.
I used to be an alcoholic. AA might work but the same as diets. Allowing yourself to drink but understanding the consequences. Each symptom we experience from it. And the next time you want to drink just to be aware what we are signing up for. And allowing ourselves. But there is a point when this strategy won’t work with alcohol. The same with food though.
