    I was looking forward to this game, but now I'm going to pass. Keep hearing the same poor reviews.

      Get it. It’s a decent game. Would be great if there was a solo mode, but it is a nice filer game. I trust Dice Tower reviews, but I also know what I like and I like this. Give it a try.

    Oh damn. That’s definitely something! I guess I’m a minority here! I really like this game!
    Played it so far only at 2-3 and I really think the higher crowds would improve on it but can’t really say until I try those counts.
    I guess thematically the components should change for the jawa market. But it makes sense that you have to pay your bounty hunters for capturing their target, so the differential of bounty hunter/bounty is the reward you get for turning in the bounty to the imperial forces and the cut that the bounty hunters get from said bounty.
    Maybe instead of imperial credits, it should have been spare parts for various machinery? I guess.
    But I liked the draft and play. A friend of mine managed to just hoard contracts, get somehow the right ones, and get 20points through contracts alone.
    The plan is to look carefully at what your neighbour wants: he has no credits? Go for a droid pack and let him think about discarding it.
    He already has multiple bounties that he’s working on? Go get another bounty, it’s less likely that he’ll want another bounty right now.
    If he’s about to finish a juicy bounty, I don’t draw bounty hunters, unless I know I’ll burn it.
    The only thing I didn’t like and houseruled was the contract card reward for some bounties. Decided to change the rule to « draw 2 contracts, pick one » to have more agency and less RNG.
    I feel like this is a different, and (to me) mire fun version of Sushi Go with a lot more strategies, possibilities.

      game is a great heads up 2 player game. Can't imagine playing this with a group

    Played it a few times. I think the IP is getting this game most of its buzz. It’s not terrible, but not really notable in any way. It is very forgettable.

    Seems like the game is barely a game and just isn't very good and wouldn't sell if it didn't have the Star Wars IP.

    I have a bad feeling about this...
    I think the concept had potential. Theme wise at least Bounty Hunters should not be negative points IMHO, they are the ones that should cost credit because they want to get paid AND they should be a requirement for every contract (you need at least one in every team after all the game is called Bounty Hunters). I think it could have been cool for contracts to not be part of the draft and be opened in the table so it would feel like a race to capture the target. There could be high priority targets (known characters with high value but just 1 copy) or low priority targets (random "npcs" that are the ones that could be copies but at lower value, unless you get a bunch of them). Last but definitly NOT least... cards should have their name displayed, it helps to give everything a little more personality and gets players to know them.

    I wonder if this game would be better if u just did a regular draft and not draw everytime .... the draw aspect makes the draft pointless

    That's a shame. The art really draws me in but I'm staying away from this one. Thanks for the review!

    I think the theme works better with the idea of the players being some Imperial bureaucrat, a corrupt Senator or a Hutt boss hiring Bounty Hunters to do their dirty work. The first sentence of the rulebook implies the players are Bounty Hunters, but you're not a specific bounty hunter in this game. This is how I'm teaching the game because hiring a Bounty Hunter would have some sort of cost associated with it and it costing VP at the end of the game fits.
    I don't get the hate for the Draw a Card before you draft. Yeah, it's not a mechanic you'll typically see in a drafting game, but drawing cards is the only way the draft stays alive. A player aid for each player with, "DRAW 1, CHOOSE 1, PASS 4," in a large font would've been helpful, for sure, but you need that constant infill of cards to sustain the core game mechanism. A little jarring for seasoned card drafter players, but I feel like it becomes natural after a few plays.
    I feel like with the hate drafting into Bounty Hunter only hands would get old quickly and just because the game lets you do it doesn't mean the game is bad. I suppose you could make a rule that you can't pass cards if they're all the same type, though again that puts another uncommon restriction on drafting.
    I still think this game will be solid for either casual gamers or fans of tableau building. The art is clever, the mechanics are pretty polished, the backstory of the theme should just be slightly different.

    Tried this game at UKGE last weekend. The SW theme was entirely incidental and the complete lack of interaction with my fellow players killed the game for me.

    I 99% time agree with you guys, this time is the 1%. :D
    Had a BLAST with 3 and 4 players! This game actually was really easy to understand for my 8yo and he loved it and understood that NOTHING in life is free, so bounty hunters NEED to be paid - not with credits, that's a different story but hey, so many games have 3-4-10 currencies in it so whatever. So I think this is pretty thematic this way. Also every one of us went with a different strategy and you are wrong about droids being op. One of us went full droid and finished all her targets (4) and STILL LOST the game. The one who won had those "useless" contract cards (actually 6! of them) and each of those gave him something around 4-5 points! I went with a balanced strategy and lost only marginally. Actually the points were: 53, 54, 55 :D So I would say this is a really fun game with easy to understand rules but pretty deep.

    from the rules teach, this game looks so forgettable... a slapped on Star Wars theme doesn't make it sound any better. Character art is nice though.

    Slight rules mistake in the teach - you don't have to pay for the droids when you take them, you can put them in front of you without paying for them (leave them tapped in front of you) and you can pay for them on a later turn to use them

    I had already preordered. As I looked into it more, had the feeling I wasn’t going to like. Which was just reinforced by the video.
    Just got my copy in, and I have no interest in even opening it. Buyer’s remorse. At least it was pretty cheap.

    Ouch! I bought the game on a whim. Read the rules and seen the component quality and art and am unimpressed, it is very light. I think it could serve a purpose as a filler if people draft fast enough. I will check it out soon. I have a feeling it might be better than DT says.

    What changes to the game would make it a game you would want to play?

    • @jokerES2
      @jokerES2 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's really random/lucky and there's not a huge amount of mitigation against the draft. I don't think any "quick" changes fix either of those issues.

    • @velderak1458
      @velderak1458 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jokerES2 I don't think the randomness is a problem. It's a card drafting game with some mechanics that didn't sit well with the DT team. Doesn't mean the mechanics are bad, just means they didn't like them. Drafting inherently has randomness - you're getting a set of cards handed to you, you choose one, and it continues. Normally in drafting games, that usually means your best choices are gone by the 3rd or 4th pass, but here you add a new card before you draft every time ensuring fresh cards are in circulation all game long.
      I didn't make this point in my other comment, but when it comes to reviewers and games, people need to take everything they say with a grain of salt, and they'd tell you to do the same. Not every game Tom likes you'll like and not every game Tom hates you'll hate. Same goes for the rest of the crew. It just so happens all 3 of them here thought similarly about the game. I've seen plenty of games make it to a video review that some members of DT rated low and others rated high. There have been games rated by DT as poor but as excellent by other reviewers.
      If your only input about whether or not a game is worth your time is a Dice Tower review, you're going to miss out on a lot of good games. Tom himself has even said there's so many games they can't get to, so make sure you're checking out the reviews from other reviewers in addition to the Dice Tower.

    • @jokerES2
      @jokerES2 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@velderak1458 Sure.
      I'm mentioning the issues the DT crew also noted, in response to a comment about "what changes would make it a game they'd want to play." I don't think there's really a way to change it into that without substantially changing the game. There's no "house rule" to make it more enjoyable.
      Whether it's a game for you is up to you.

    • @Noel_Maymes
      @Noel_Maymes 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@velderak1458exactly. I mean, Tom made an entire video talking why he didn’t like Brass Birmingham, instead of going into an in depth review of it. Which was super interesting. And the main point he makes is that he’s not saying it’s a bad game, it’s just not for him.
      I’m not trying to compare Bounty Hunters to Brass ofc. It’s just that, Tom’s or the DT team’s word aren’t gospel. Neither is BGG rating btw. I really like this game. Spoiler alert: my word also isn’t gospel.
      I’m surprised it didn’t click with anyone in that trio, as I usually have similar tastes in games to all three of these nice men here! But it doesn’t take away any enjoyment I get from this game, and I can see why they would not like it.
      In general I can only strongly suggest people to make sure they find reviewers with similar tastes to theirs and go from there!

    I think this is better at the lower player counts. That way you're adding cards to the hand that might make their way back to you (particularly at 2 or 3 players)
