Not gonna find a better rock drummer alive right now. Only a handful of drummers can do polyrythems and Danny is the master. I am lucky enough to have the job i do at Vic Firth Drumsticks here in Boston and was in our company box for this very show. Got to meet him before the show when he came to our corporate headquarters.

It's very encouraging to read these comments and no I'm not the one that has this kind of thought process... I was just telling somebody my favorite Tool song is whatever current Tool song I'm listening to in that moment.. another beautiful thing about these songs are I believe there's still more to be discovered within each song as I know I haven't unpackaged everything the the song an artwork all together provides
Brother, you're one of the only people I've seen react to that backhand slap of the cymbal at 13:36. I've always LOVED that. Danny didn't even turn his head; it's such a nice moment.
Although Danny is a huge part of every Tool song, I think this one might be Tool's Danny-est song. We are so lucky that they made this video so we could all witness what Danny does here.
I appreciate your reaction. Danny Carey is a legend. His ability to play multiple rhythms simultaneously is a testament to his talent. Danny was actually 58 years old when this video was shot. He's 60 now, and they are touring again! There are so many incredible Tool songs to react to. I would recommend something off their Lateralus or Aenima album, but honestly. "H." is my favorite song by them. God bless, and best of luck with your personal music and your channel!
Thank you! Yeah it would take me a few lifetimes to be able to play multiple rhythms like him and I still probably wouldn't be that good! He's an incredible musician! I've heard Lateralus is a lot of people's favorite album by them so that's another one I want to check out. I'll keep "H" in mind. Appreciate your comment! 💯🔥🤘
Also he’s a huge NBA fan so every single arena they play, that team of the city customizes his own jersey for him. Lol what a life. But whats really interesting about TOOL is that when they got started, they were just doing it for fun and then all these record deals started coming in. They are very hesitant on presuming that because they all had they day jobs that they absolutely loved. For instance, guitarist Adam Jones had a pretty cool job as a sculptor and special effects designer in Hollywood before joining the band. He worked in makeup and set design department on such iconic features as "Jurassic Park," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Dances with Wolves," "Ghostbusters II," and more. By "and more" we mean that Adam designed the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child," and also worked on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master."
The dude's a genius. Nevermind writing the song, but the ability to play all of this material (songs being up to 15 min long) at his age is nuts. Troughout all the polyrythms and polymeters, he's just as calm as a button lol
Danny's polyrhythms and sick time signatures not to mention he is able to get 3 or more all going at the same time. Who does that? They don't call him the Octopus for nothing. On top of their music is based off from numerical polyrhythms and timing structures that most bands can't comprehend. I think Danny is almost 60, his strength and power is unbelievable. Tool is my favorite band over all. Not to mention the amazing riffs of Adam and Justin and words put forth by Maynard. Untouchable. 😎🤘
Dude just turned 61!!!! Word around the campfire is the Larry Legend jersey supposedly significant, because he is a 33 degree Mason and his father is as well. Sacred Geometry all over his drum kit. Im loving the reactions. Im ripping through all of them one after the other .
3:16 - Rewatching your reaction, those things he's playing in the beginning are Synesthesia Mandala Drums, and he's a co-developed of them. 128 striking rings, with intensity from 0 to 127, giving each pad 16,256 possible responses. EACH PAD!
Welcome to Tool...Danny Carey is on another level of drumming than most of the drummers today. The answer is yes, more Tool, you won't be disappointed. Since you started at a high level song I recommend you do Laturalus next ...A song built on the Fibonacci sequence...the lyrics, drums, versing, all of it. Spiral out...keep going.
I heard someone say once, "there's a story that Danny Carey made a deal with the devil, no one knows what Danny got, but the devil got free drum lessons".
Danny Carrey's a beast of a drummer!! He's not only in tip top physical shape (even though he's in his early 60's) he's super tall at 6'5". Definitely one of my favorite drummers. 👌
Yeah, Danny is so technical and so precise. It's hard for me to wrap my head around how he's able to create these masterpieces. Oh, and btw, he's 60 years old. It's just nuts.
Their songs may be long, yes, and they may be complex as well, indeed, but time does not pass while you’re listening to Tool. It is conceivable to achieve immortality by creating/playing a mix wherein there are no gaps between their songs.
I'm subbing solely on your 'genuine' mind blown reaction. Obviously you understand music and it's construction. And if your a circle fan you know anything Maynard does will be complex. You’d be surprised, when you have eight arms each with independent brains all connected through a hive mind as an alien octopus stamina really isn’t an issue.
Dude I been watching your reactions to Undertow and now the beginning of Aenima, and it was great to come back to here and see what set you on this journey! The first time I saw this Drum Cam vid I shat myself, I thought the web was gonna explode! It was cool to see it having seen the song done live down here in Sydney back in 2020 - just before the shit hit the fan big time. You can't but not be energized by watching this! I laughed when he literally did his first little drum rolley slowing down thing - he had you then!! As for that stamina you speak of - this is one song, imagine a whole show of it, over many shows, over the last 30 years - no wonder he's built like a brick shit house!! There must be more of these right??? Like the whole concert??? Where are they!! Peace dude, looking forward to seeing you experience Eulogy for the first time :)
I'm going to see them live for the first time tomorrow, so exited. Tool is a deep rabbit hole I rediscovered them in 2020 watching reaction videos. I had the '96 ænima album but never got into them back then.
Another physiological thing you should know about Danny - He's about 6' 7". So, not only does he need to keep in shape for keeping up this level of drumming through concerts, he has A Lot to keep in shape. ...He's also in his 50's in this, I believe. So yeah. The music gods built The Octopus well, and he seems to have kept that machine running strong.
Great reaction.🤘You understand music. Many reactors dont get the point or dont understand how amazing performance this is.Time signatures and the way he play together with the vocalist.
Thank you! I don't always catch everything (tbh, it's much easier to catch things when the camera is locked on one player haha) but I always try to notice what I can! 💯 Appreciate your comment 🤘
Seriously, watching react videos, to Pneuma, is my new favorite pastime and nothing is more disappointing than watching them just making a few faces then signing off. Now I look at the length of the video before watching to see if they actually talk about it.
Man, I had the same reaction after watching this video about a year ago. It brought me right back down into a Tool rabbit hole. I bought the Undertow and Aenima CD's back in the 90's but kinda neglected them for 25 years. I had missed so much.
Don't worry, I neglected them my whole life lol. But I probably wouldn't have looked so deeply into their lyrics if I didn't start reacting to them. Everything happens for a reason 💯🤘🌀
@@Skullzrapper Thanks for the reply mate. I'm now hoping and praying with all my might that they tour Australia one more time, because I need to experience it.
Danny is an.absolute legend.an Tool is out if this world ...phenomenal together an incredible reaction you are amazing thanku so much love and God bless always...thanku so much x
WOW!!!! Why isn’t this reaction blowing up?!?! Amazing amazing reaction brother!! In my opinion he is the best drummer in history so far. No one else has his dynamics, precision and unbelievable power when needed. And he constantly keeps pushing himself through each album. He is the 🐐!!! Hope to hear some more TOOL reactions! Your music and the video is so solid!! Amazing job doing literally everything, that’s crazy and very cool! Mad respect!!
Aye I appreciate you saying that! Yeah this was fucking unbelievable dude! I've listened to it probably 10 times since I recorded the reaction 😂 Instantly one of my favorites drummers! I will definitely check out more Tool! Thank you for the comment 🤘
I have commented on your videos before, but it's been a while. I am one of the Tool Army that had advised you, "Spiral out; keep going", even before you heard the song "Lateralus". I revisit this, your first shared introduction to Tool, to renew my own exploration. After over 30 years of my fandom, I still can feel my original passion when I can see it *vicariously* through your eyes.
Yes, please. I'm already chewing through your Tool reactions like a rabid dog. :D Please react to Push It (Salival). It's a live version that is substantially different from the original recording. They went a new direction with it, and asked the audience's permission. Pneuma is an amazing name for the song, "breath" but also "vital essence/soul."
I like to return to this early exposure you had to Tool every so often. You really had little to no idea what lay ahead. Some parts of your reaction make me chuckle because if this. Keep up the great reactions man.
I held out to “Cold & Ugly” to watch this one. Once I heard you were starting from the beginning I cut it off. Not disappointed. Your ear for all the nuances on the first listen is damn impressive. Thanks for sharing man! I sincerely believe the “stamina” Danny displays encourages the active listener to more…15:23 made me lol
Hell yeah you need to dig into more Tool. You haven't even scratched the surface. The Pot Right In Two Invincible Just suggestions for your next submersion into the experience that is Tool (the Pink Floyd of metal).
Hope you're ready for the influx of the Tool Army Time to jump into the rabbit hole known as Tool get ready to spiral out! The Grudge, Lateralus or The Pot would be a good place to start
This is definitely my favorite song. #1 I turn the lights off, and listen to it in the dark. Try not to think, or analyze it. Just experience, and feel it. It's really the only way I've been able to meditate. Listening to it that, I feel, take the song to another level. Just my opinion though.
First Thing i noticed in listening to Tool 4 years ago is that they have the best Drummer i have ever heard. Yeah, definitely at another level. Not only polyrhytms but percussions, his magic movements in using the sticks, the drumpads, the Mandala drums , his equipment. And the Alchemy with Maynard's VOICE.
Honestly it is hard to find a bad Tool song, but try Lateralus, Right In Two, Parabol/Parabola, Vicarious, Eulogy, The Pot, the triad (Disposition, Reflection, Triad).
Makes you wonder what a convo back in the day was like when they first got together.... Maynard - "...you can try any of those and we'll see how you do." Danny - "Actually I like all 4, I'll just put them together." Maynard - "What? How?" Danny - [Epic Drums] Maynard [Blown Away] - You're hired!
As your final Tool Discography video was just released, I came back to the beginning and watched this video again. So cool you decided to give Tool such a thorough listen. I appreciate your breakdowns and analysis. I enjoy watching.
We’re so close to you being able to hear the studio version of this track, which is track #2 on Fear Inoculum! The studio version is so much better than the live version, as the mixing and mastering on the album is absolutely masterful. Maynard sounds magical in the studio track. Very cool to see you first experience TOOL in this video again after watching every other video you’ve done on your TOOL journey- Fear Inoculum might be your favorite album!
I’ve been waiting for you!! A reactor who knows and appreciates the complexity of Tool, and working your way through the discography. I love essentially being in the same room with someone experiencing Tool for the first time, living Vicariously through you. Good stuff!!
I've been into this band since 1993; it's been a privilege to go on the journey of this band's development and evolution, with each new album release, listening to them get better and better at being Tool, at being these four musicians working with and off of one other, and where that point is in the center where they all coalesce. And to Skullz: what is always a genuine thrill for me seeing videos like yours - of someone's first experience of Tool or of a certain song - is the wide-eyed swirling brew of emotions that come, a mix generally felt only when the senses have experienced something truly unique and special. Joy, awe, wonder, reverance, shock, a mind blown, a need to hear more and that will not be denied... I get to experience the first-time listener's joy vicariously - at the same time I'm transported right back to when I first heard it too... I fuckin love it man.
That's why I love reactions too! Plus people are so interesting with the way they interpret songs 💯 I'm working through their album Aenima on the channel right now! It's been an incredible ride so far! They are truly special 🤘
His fundamentals are amazing he watches elbow level it basically never changes I mean when he goes to the crazier fills but they basically don't move the whole song
This is seriously one of the craziest things I've ever seen!
So excited to check out more Tool! 🔥🔥🔥

@@lesflynn4455 haha Yeah I'm hoping they perform near me too. I want to go with my wife but I don't think she's ready for how crazy I'll be 😂😂😂
Danny is an.absolute legend.an Tool is out if this world ...phenomenal together an incredible reaction you are amazing thanku so much love and God bless always...thanku so much x
Thanks Wendy 💯 Yeah I can't wait to dive more into them 🔥
@@Skullzrapper can't wait to dive with you x

Tempest is amazing and another song where Danny's drumming is spectacular!!! highly recommend you check it out!!🔥💯🤙
5:25 in "this drummers nasty" -skullz

lol.
Tool puts you in the mood to listen to 12 min. Tool songs !
yeah hes literally one of the best drummers to have ever existed lol
@@Skullzrapper Right on brotha!!
We’re losing a generation of TOOL fans in slow mo, it suck……hope they listen🤘
When you're watching a reaction to this video, and you know the show doesn't start till 6 minutes in...
Great reaction mate. Love from an Aus Tool fan. Schism or Sober or Lateralis anything old or new, all great
Take a shot every time Skullz puts his hand to his mouth in sheer awe hahah
Hey man, you're gonna give my subscribers alcohol poisoning 🤣🤣🤣
The Pot
Right In Two
Invincible
Just suggestions for your next submersion into the experience that is Tool (the Pink Floyd of metal).
Another great one, I don't like the title but.....stinkfist!!!love that song!!!
Hope you're ready for the influx of the Tool Army Time to jump into the rabbit hole known as Tool get ready to spiral out! The Grudge, Lateralus or The Pot would be a good place to start
That intro drum bit that Danny is playing on the pads is half of a warm up exercise I learned back in ‘92ish
This is definitely my favorite song. #1 I turn the lights off, and listen to it in the dark. Try not to think, or analyze it. Just experience, and feel it. It's really the only way I've been able to meditate. Listening to it that, I feel, take the song to another level. Just my opinion though.
I'll have to try it 💯
Yes, Danny Carey is the " Octopus"
Ticks & Leeches is another that show off Danny’s talent
First Thing i noticed in listening to Tool 4 years ago is that they have the best Drummer i have ever heard. Yeah, definitely at another level. Not only polyrhytms but percussions, his magic movements in using the sticks, the drumpads, the Mandala drums , his equipment. And the Alchemy with Maynard's VOICE.
Check out the drummer from the band "rush"
Honestly it is hard to find a bad Tool song, but try Lateralus, Right In Two, Parabol/Parabola, Vicarious, Eulogy, The Pot, the triad (Disposition, Reflection, Triad).
This is the song Danny summons multiple Deamons to control his different limbs. There are so many time signatures in the instrumental part.
Makes you wonder what a convo back in the day was like when they first got together....
Maynard - "...you can try any of those and we'll see how you do."
Danny - "Actually I like all 4, I'll just put them together."
Maynard - "What? How?"
Danny - [Epic Drums]
Maynard [Blown Away] - You're hired!
I love how you didn't pause it every 2 sec or talk over it. Just genuinely watched in amazement. Tool is so good it's stupid
For real! 🔥🔥🔥
As your final Tool Discography video was just released, I came back to the beginning and watched this video again. So cool you decided to give Tool such a thorough listen. I appreciate your breakdowns and analysis. I enjoy watching.
Yeah, you need to watch "Sol Niger Within" With Morgan And Fredrik...
Just make sure it is the "live" version
Regarding his stamina.... Danny is 60 years old.... 60 !!! let's take a moment to absorb that..... GOAT !!!
You will be baffled and amazed.
Danny "The Mesmerizer" Carey 😵💫
Seeing them in concert is just unreal and life changing.
Respect to you my friend. Well said.
Yo, my wife and I just went to the Tacoma Dome, WA TOOL Fear Innoculum tour...frickin awesome 🤘...thanks for the reaction video
Hope you guys had fun! I keep hearing they put on a hell of a show! 💯
@@Skullzrapper yes they do!!..highly recommended if you ever have a chance to go see them
I went back to this one after your Lateralus reaction. You are so unaware of the greatness here, but now you know how it is.
Been a hell of a journey lol 💯
Good work man. The rabbit hole is open, it's up to you to fall in.
I feel privileged to have been alive at the same time as Tool
Oh how 12 minutes can change youre life
Tool fans, well, we are devoted !!
I know this has been posted a year ago. I must have watched this video 50 times and still get chills each time ❤🔥Love it!!!! ❤
I’ve been waiting for you!! A reactor who knows and appreciates the complexity of Tool, and working your way through the discography. I love essentially being in the same room with someone experiencing Tool for the first time, living Vicariously through you. Good stuff!!
Aye Much love!🤘
Ben Stiller review of Danny Carey
Got....he is never looking at his left hand.
Welcome to the Tool Rabbit hole!
Studio versions for here on out brother. Not too many good quality live videos out there if Tool.
“Tool-The Pot” next!
He’s the master! He’s doesn’t even use a click track!
The epic octopus crushes it!🤘😎🤘
Danny Carey is one of the greatest rock prog metal drummers of all time. Btw Danny is almost 60 years old when he's playing this
This is why I kinda love seats on upper level far right or left stage for Tool you can see everyone n what they're doing
Keep the Tool coming!
I'll have to watch again and look for that! lol
