My son and I heard this at UT as a tribute to Raymond Crisara, Professor of Trumpet, in 2001. It was performed at Bass Concert Hall. Twenty-one Alumni stood and played trumpets during the entire program. It knocked our socks off. My son has four trumpets, one, a 1920 trumpet given to him by my uncle, who was born in 1920.
Unfortunately for the UK it is not the British king Charles III, but the king and emperor Karl I of Austria and Hungary at his coronation 1916. The British wouldn't have played the music of a German composer amidst World War I, would they?
There are some pretty expensive concert halls being built these days but they can't beat the classic Musikverein in Vienna or the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam for sheer beauty of architecture and world beating acoustics.
Richard Strauss created the fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic and you can feel it has to be played by the Vienna Philharmonic . They choose automatically the right tempo, not too fast, and the right gravity.
The reason this doesn't get played more are the horn parts. You can do the rest with a group of decently strong players but you have to have a stellar horn section or it is a mess.
+Aezelll As a horn player I can vouch for this. Even with a solid section this part can be a bitch. It really does require a very good section from top to bottom section. No wimps allowed on this piece I'm afraid.
Yes, I played this at All State Red Band in Alabama in 2014. I was an irrelevant 15th Trumpet, but I must say the French Horns were *very* stellar. I was lucky to be a part of it.
it was a bonus track from the legendary recording of "Alpensinfonie" conducted by Seji Ozawa. unfortunately it is not available anymore. i am searching for this recording for a long time...
Trumpet player here… this piece was one of my favorite memories of all time playing 😭❤️ truly beautiful, especially when your in the room and feel the power of this!
Excuse me......ahh....never leave out Symphony Hall, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as faf as sound and resonance........OUTSTANDING.....the most European sounding Orchestra......
@kurbiscremesuppe from which album have you taken this? I'd like to buy it but cannot find a commercial recording by the Vienna Philharmonic of the piece...
Still can’t believe listening it this a whole decade ago I would hear it live at the Coronation of King Charles III. God Save The King 👑

Wonderful recording. The first in which I've heard all the different voices with such clarity.
God Save the King!
Long live King Charles III

Sounds very royal and majestic.
Same might have thought King Charles :)

Bellisimo, un deleite para el alma. Felicidades a TH-cam 👏
If you are looking for this recording, it's included in a box called 'Seiji Ozawa A Life for Music'.

Any idea which orchestra?
so beautiful... sehr schon..
Great stuff!!
How could you dislike this? Just wondering
I’m wondering the same!!

Leave it up to Strauss to write the coolest fanfare!
did anyone notice there are absolutely no down votes for this
Brandon Leflore Unfortunatly Someone just destroyed that. He must have watched his computer upside down
+Andreas Hoppe your reply made me laugh more than I should have
Well, Unbelievable but I was curious why now up to date, there is 33 persons down voted this marvelous fanfare!!?!!
Excuse me......ahh....never leave out Symphony Hall, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as faf as sound and resonance........OUTSTANDING.....the most European sounding Orchestra......
in Lyra Bragança I play 1 trumpet
