My 2004 BMW 325i only got 15 MPG since I bought it 5 years ago. I cleaned the MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR and I'm getting around 30+ now!!! (It never threw a fault code for anything. Including Oxygen Sensors.)
As mentioned, be very careful if you pull the throttle body. Take a picture of where the butterfly valve is setting before attempting to clean. A LOT of modern and even '06 models do not have an absolute position sensor to determine where the butterfly valve actually is. They use an indirect position sensor, and if you move it, and then replace the TB, it will think it is in the original position and adjust it programmatically from there. You may end up needing to get it towed into a shop, or have to replace the unit entirely. Sometime the re-tune steps mentioned will not be able to correct.
Also change your air filter. My Hyundai fuel "Range" was always around 400 miles after a fill-up. I noticed it dropped to around 360 to 370. Changed air filter and it took about 5 or 6 fill-ups and now it is back to 400. Measured mpgs and went from around 31 up to 35 mpg with just a $20 air filter.
yep👍🏼 around farming ground the Dust can fly pretty far and if you ever had to roll yer window up fast to keep the cloud out😎 filter needs changed for sure.
That was very good intel on the TB. I didn't know that. I had to clean the TB on my 02 Tundra (4.7L) and I did it without removing the unit. I sprayed and scrubbed a pretty good amount of carbon from the inside with minimal deflection of the butterfly valve. The old donkey ran great after that with no ill effects from my amateurish cleaning technique. Now that I know better I will do better. Great job and very informative.
Love the content. I have a 2005 Honda accord that if I don't let it idle for about 10 minutes after starting it will kind of stall out when try to accelerate
Every time Gas goes up you see tons of gadgets for sale, guys selling stuff and Tweeks to your car for better gas mileage. As illustrated...new air filter, correct tire pressure, maybe new belts. Most of all ..good driving ....see cars wiz by me then brake hard for the light. Always in a hurry ....then start quick from the light .... Driving 80-90 on the freeway...see that all the time... Great video....good info!
Can you guys do a video on engine stalling... I've replaced everything from a fuel pump to multiples different sensors... including all the ones you're talking about in here... only thing I can think of doing now is possibly the alternator is cutting out then coming back to life so it tests normal but doesn't work correctly intermittently for say.... that's me just taking an educated guess... I've done the fuel pump, cam shaft position sensor, throttle position sensor, new injectors, plugs wires & spark-packs... broke the upper neck of my radiator so I got a new radiator including upper and lower hoses end thermostat... if this model has a fuel filter then it's unknown where it's at... Anyways, any help would be appreciated... 2003 hyundai xg350 L
Am having 2010 honda civic 1.8 l 4 cyl automatic not giving proper mileage. Fuel Tank Capacity 50Liter It will give 560 kilometers if I fill up fully for the long travel. When am drive inside the city for full tank its giving me 290 to 300KM These are the steps that I have done. 1. Clean the mass airflow sensor. 2. Clean the throttle body. 3. Clean the plugs. 4. Changed the engine oil and gear oil. 5. Clean the fuel filter. 6. Clean the fuel Injector. Please assist me with this.
I have a 2023 Subaru turbo. The stated city mpg is 22 whereas I get on 15! The dealer simply said unless the Check Engine light is lit there is nothing wrong with it. Frustrated in Florida.
To properly clean a throttle body, it needs to be open. Carbon buildup on the back of the throttle plate isn't really the issue, the issue really is the carbon buildup on the edge of the throttle plate and around the inside of the throttle body where the throttle plate makes contact. That's what will restrict the airflow and could cause the throttle plate to stick and you won't be able to effectively clean that with the throttle closed. On a mechanical throttle body, there's no problem with manually opening and closing it. But with an electronic throttle body, you need to be very careful. Usually you can leave the throttle body plugged into the harness and have someone sit in the car and hold the pedal to the floor with the key on and the engine off to open the throttle so you can clean it. Just be careful to not move the throttle plate because that could set codes and/or mess with the calibration and cause problems. If you can find the manufacturer's specific procedure for your vehicle and it does not involve special tools you don't have like a dealer scan tool, that's always your best bet.
I change my throttle body and 209 GMC envoy I bought a brand new one I put it in and it still is giving me a problem sometimes in the morning it sounds like the old carburetor back in the days I don't know what to do please if you have an idea let me know what to do
I have a 2003 Honda CR-V with code P0505, comes on and off at random, when it’s off it runs fine, as soon as the light turns on it’s a rough idle. Any ideas? 😭 I changed the iacv 3 times.
See the idle sensor position it is on the throttle body loose the nuts rotate it, it can be positioned differently at any point its directly related to rpm idle set
My Mazda goes into limp mode. I am getting DTC codes P0220, P2100 for throttle position and P50A cold idle. Resetting the ECU and performing a throttle relearn gets me on the road but as soon as I slow down too suddenly, it goes into limp mode again. I had it at the garage and they cleaned the MAP sensor and throttle body as they said it is the most likely suspect but the problem persisted. Then they said they checked all the wiring and everything was good and the readings from the throttle and pedal were good. They suspected the ECU because at one point they couldn't get communication. I took the car back as they couldn't guarantee replacing the ECU would work and that told me they have no clue what they are doing. I found that the DTC connector had a loose pin so that was why they were having problems. I am really drawn to the MAF sensor. With the MAF sensor disconnected I have identified the 12V pin and the 2 ground pins but the ground pins are showing 15 ohms from the battery negative to the MAF connector. Shouldn't I be getting good continuity there? One day, after resetting the ECU and performing a throttle relearn, I decided to just let it come down to idle. Just before I put it in reverse it jumped into limp mode ie;really low rough idle. When in limp it will not go past ~20 km/hr. Please help as I cannot afford to take it to Mazda which is 3 hours away. Plus I don't know if it would make it anyway. I really don't think it's the ECU. Something is telling that ECU to go into limp mode.
+Rick Stinger We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Definitely. They are actually called that carb/throttle body cleaner. Just don't use it on the MAF whatsoever. There's a different spray for that CRC MAF cleaner and only clean that outside the engine and allow to dry.
I cleaned my throttle body like a week ago and it idles fine when I have the car on park but when it's on drive or reverse it sometimes wants to drop half way. Is that normal or could it be something else?
Hay I'm having trouble with a 1999 gmc sierra 1500 . Truck .. I've been trying to get it to run for the longest time now. . .. the truck will start up but it won't ideal.. .. and the only way the truck stays on is if I push down on the gas pedal to get the rpms up. But when I let of the pedal it dies down and turn off. .. can someone please give me any idea what else it could be. I've run out of options .. and I've checked for any codes but nothing came back .. ???
I got the 3 liter and I get like 16 mpg, it’s horrible for some reason especially when I got the truck it had 80,000 miles on it and I was getting 25-26mpg, I can’t figure out what’s wrong
same problem here. Took my car to a mechanic who charged me money and told me my car is fine when I know it isn't. It's my car and I don't think anyone cares more about it than I do. Of course I would know when my car is getting bad gas mileage.
it only restore the original gas millage, nothing saves gas or makes better gas mileage , the ecu gives a certain amount of fuel each time , even in accordance with the wheel size
That’s why all older vehicles were way better than today’s vehicles lol less parts and maintenance on older vehicles than today’s crap that they are making today
I heard a guy say the other day..... I don't care about fuel price increases. I only put $20 in my tank when I fill up. 🙂 Genius on the level of the buddha......

Old Spark Plugs and dirty Air Filters are usually the 2 main culprits and fairly cheap to replace.
That’s one plus of diesels; no spark plugs

I always buy OEM replacement parts from car dealers in other states online at a cheaper price compared to my local car dealer.
Hello there can be
Also be aware that plastic intake is more noisier, you can hear the air rushing through, don't assume an air leak with out verifying it
I luv this video because we recently replaced the Mass Air Flow and the 2 o2 sensors on my 2008 chevy hhr
Do you like your HHR? They seem very practical and good cars thanks take care

Thanks for this video. I’m curious.. What if you have a MAP sensor? Can it be cleaned like a MAF sensor can?
As luck would have it, this video came just when I started noticing my car is consuming more fuel than normal.
Same here. Truck went from 20 mpg to about 16 mpg. We all know we can't have that with these pump prices
I get the same mileage, just the gas prices at $6 per gallon in California is higher.

Getting P0446, changed evap valve, same code came back on. What else should I look for?
Try replacing the gas reservoir cap.

@@1AAuto Thanks anyway. I live in a small community. I've tried the mechanics here. Wish me luck.
Can you use Carb Cleaner on a Throttle body?
Yes
No you need maf sensor cleaner often there is a protective layer on those and brake or carb cleaner can remove it
Definitely. They are actually called that carb/throttle body cleaner. Just don't use it on the MAF whatsoever. There's a different spray for that CRC MAF cleaner and only clean that outside the engine and allow to dry.
Redline every gear, or go without.
How about check the quality of gas!! ⛽️ too much ethanol it’s ruining our cars and trucks
Thank you
Don't have one, some Mopars use a TIP/MAP set up.
What if you have no codes and you have eco mode and you are still getting bad gas mileage????
