- The studio version of Coheed and Cambria's "Elf Tower New Mexico" from their first album "The Second Stage Turbine Blade".
Lyrics:
Elf Tower, New Mexico
Elf Tower, New Mexico
Thank God you're still angry at me
I"ve got a better chance of seeing you dead and buried, yeah
Thank you, for this one last big mistake
It's your turn, come shoot for it
If you win?
Well you can lead the way
Yeah
Midday subway into new jersey
Did you think maybe I was doing quite well without you in the frame?
Staile, killed in defense
I can't believe I told you right after
"I've given you up, go on find someone new"
Until then, pretend you've touched me for your last
I've given you up, go on find someone new
Dear Nikki, what
What if I could have found a better half, here, in you
Oh, Nikki, what...
Elf Tower, New Mexico
Elf Tower, New Mexico
Stay here in our last standing hourglass, circumstance
Devoted here, in the midst of weary eyes
Lost and buried here, in your big surprise, again
Will your fingers find my bag famillar?
I fit in the question I had to ask
Did you think maybe I was doing quite well without you in the frame?
Staile, killed in defense
I can't believe I told you right after
"I've given you up, go on find someone new"
Until then, pretend you've touched me for your last
I've given you up, go on find someone new
Dear Nikki, what
What if I could have found a better half, here, in you
Oh, Nikki, what...
Elf Tower, New Mexico
(Smile tomorrow, you are home)
I'll give my my words in one lesson
Dear God
Before I heard this is your intention
Before I, I could've figured out, over and over
See there's Coheed, and then Cambria in innocent merger
Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Thank God they recovered your body in New Mexico
Three days
I'm spoiled
I miss you in every way
You could have been dear, I wish you were here, still in the frame
Staile, killed in defense
I can't believe I told you right after
"I've given you up, go on find someone new"
Until then, pretend you've touched me for your last
I've given you up, go on find someone new
Dear Nikki, what
What if I could have found a better half, here, in you
Oh, Nikki, what...
Elf Tower, New Mexico
Nerding out to this so hard, No band makes me as happy as Co&Ca.
I feel like this entire album is something Coheed and Cambria just can't repeat. The frenzied, unstable emotion held in each song, how budget it sounds as it has that clear, crisp, crunchy, crackling sound to the guitars, the vocals sounding like a youthful Claudio, where at the time, Claudio was in a rough patch.
Man no doubt this is the most underrated Coheed song. this gave me chills
vinny shut fuck up
you leave fuck alone!
chills down your gay lil spine
Well, this song was about his ex. So out of respect and for his love of chonny he doesn't want to perform it.
all the coheed haters will soon bow before claudio, for he is officially the most dynamic song writer to ever inhabbit earth in the past 5000
My mom started listening to Coheed because of this song
Son?
i freaking love the acoustic version of junesong provision ...
To each their own. I ADORE this song.
This and Everything Evil are my fav tracks on the album
UGotSerbed delirium trigger
This isn't really an album track. It wasn't on the original release and for a while was basically just an obscure rarity that got added as a bonus track when they re-released SSTB. It is great though and totally fits in with the tone of SSTB.
I'm guna listen to this 33 time today!!
Fucking love this song!!
wow thats a bit much for me. Not quite at that level. I'm still at 184.
woah hey, its only my IVth time listening to this
my favourite Coheed song, I've been a fan since like 2004 and just heard this lately!!
Been listening to this on repeat for an hour and a half, so much emotion in this song, no one matches Claudio's lyrics and Coheed's performing.
4:08 this part makes my heart ache...
100% pure emotion put in music form.
I love these guys man...the energy, the creativity,,,,I honestly don't personally listen to anything but them...crazy
I agree with you my friend, this is one of my favorite songs off this album. This is possibly one of my favorite Coheed and Cambria songs actually.
Why does everyone think he hates the song because it's physically hard for him to sing? Like most songs on SSTB, this song is about his lost love Nikki and he hates singing it because it's one of the songs that remind him most of her. He doesn't play many songs off SSTB for that reason, same reason why he won't do songs from Shabutie. He probably just feels past that part of his life, and probably doesn't wanna relive it. Regardless this song is incredible. Seeing them live on the 14th.
its about psychosis.
God this music is so great. The conviction in Claudio's voice rings so true, so abundant in emotion! The guitar drive the song like Hunter S. Thompson on a hot summer day through Las Vegas. The melodies flow like a bird drifting along a spring breeze. Put simply, man I love this shit.
"Staile, killed in defense."
(Staile, oh wo oh)
I can't believe I told you right after,
"I've given you up, go on find someone new."
So powerful, so amazing. Co&Ca = 10/10
it doesn''t matter, its an extra on the re-release... which is what makes it one of the best songs they've ever done. the messy palm mutes and amazing sounding distortion...... its so immaculate.
Thank god you're still angry at me
The 13 people who disliked this song should all get together and drink the kool-aid....
that's being polite. i'd simply say they need to blow their brains out.
21
blow eachothers' brains out
One of those people is probably Travis Stever himself. He hates this song even though he made it.Thinks it sucks. But that's him.I love it
Very well put. As the mood and setting in the story changes, so does the sound and feel of the music.
Well that's what happens in a story right? You have your beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, and denouement. It's just their music is progressing as the mood and stage of the story progresses. As for myself I think it's the most creative way to write music I have seen so far
@molomix23
This is reaallly outdated xD,but i might as well reply...
Im sure claudio named the scientist after the street, because in the comics it CLEARLY states sirius amory was the name of a scientist that discovered(i think) the Stars of Sirius, that supply the power to the keywork, and the war it "sparked" was named The Amory Wars, which is the namesake of the comics...however,im sure the street had something to do with naming the scientist Amory.
"Amory" was the street Claudio lived on as a kid, but that's a really interesting thought. I never thought to look at it like that... Kinda gives a new perspective of the entire Coheed saga.
Oh man I haven't listened to this song forever I just forgot about it even though I listened to the rest of Second Stage.
Favorite. Song. Ever. No. Question.
This is my all time favourite song.
i give every song Co&Ca make a 10/10 they rock!!!
This song makes everything right. Always.
In my opinion, the first two albums are their best, however the last two are still amazing & necessary pieces of this epic tale.
This is the only cohwed and cambria song I like, it talks directly to my soul
urinefromuranus in my opinion every song they have ever made is better than any other music
favorite coheed song hands down
@StopRunningKid, The concert was in Albuquerque, NM at the Journal Pavillion a couple of years ago. Coheed & Cambria really impressed me and I was glad to see the LEGENDARY, Ronnie James Dio one more time before he passed, may he RIP.
I still can't believe music this good can even be written.
Free show last night was awesome, I'm really gonna miss hearing this song live :'(
I wish they still performed this :(
Yeahhh but I don't blame Claudio for not wanting to..
I live in New Mexico and I can't seem to find this Elf Tower. :) My nephew turned me on to C&C and they are pretty damned good, this coming from an old fogie. I saw them open for a Heaven & Hell concert and I thought they sounded great. Claudio has got some great stage presence along with that voice and awesome hair. One of the very few new bands that I was willing to take a listen to, and then liked, alot. Peace.
Man this song brings me back
Love, I say Love this frackingmofo song so much... hold me please, giving you up ...go on, find someone new.....
Probably the GREATEST album ever made in the history of man kind. PERIOD!
I'm giving you up, go on and find someone new! ♫
@matthewsinist3r my reason ideologically also for liking this song is if you weren't to watch any interviews with claudio, or look any information up, besides just reading the comics and listening to the music, it would draw a straight connection to claudio in the series and claudio in real life. The lines "see there's coheed, and then cambria- an innocent merger, absence makes the heart grow fonder" directly point out the song as being thus as well.
Amazing song
see thats the thing; i remember claudio saying he couldnt understand why ppl would like an unfinished song like this... thats the best thing i like about this song, actually its the reason i LOVE this song, its messy and pure. and so great. i couldnt believe they made such a song on this album, but they didnt, they made this before... and its in my heart more than any other song by them.
Amazing.
i love this fucking song so much..i get the chills everytime i hear it
@madchild0709 Nice, I want to get the Second Stage package too. Going to see them in Dallas, TX. Can't wait for it in a month.
Go vote for coheed in the mtv music march madness competition. They need al the support they can get.
sorry i mean't to thumb up your comment, i enjoy various types of music, from jazz with compilations of gene krupa, and buddy rich, i enjoy metal, jazz metal fusion, progressive rock, progressive metal, latin jazz, salsa, funk, old school hip hop with the meaningful or just killer lyrics. I like many bands, in rock/prog/metal, like 3, The Mars Volta, Cynic, Meshuggah, ATDI, Rush, Last Chance to Reason. lol i could on all day.
@RandomToDoList The Mayo you're wondering about is Tri-Mage Wilhelm Ryan's general, Mayo Deftinwolf. Although Claudio may not have been able to find the Miracle Whip in the fridge when he was writing the song.
I know what you mean, it's pretty different from some of their other songs. But as for me, the raw, primal emotion displayed in this song by claudio just makes this one of my favourites. 'I've given you up, go on find someone new.' Chills.
@MikeTheGuy00 The.Bag.Online. was the name of a handbag store that he could see outside of his hotel room while visiting his girlfriend in Paris.
Amory Drive in Rockland, NY is where Claudio grew up.
omg, it's the first time I hear this song..
@furfeyl They have a novel for the prequel to the story called Year of the Black Rainbow, then they have graphic novels/comics for the Second Stage turbine blade and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 albums, and Claudio is working on comics for the two Good Apollo albums.
Thank you, for this one last big mistake....
@RandomToDoList the story itself doesn't represent his life word for word, but there are certainly some themes that he explores in the concept that he obviously thought were prominent in his life at the time. not so much with the lyrics of sstb, but with the newer album's lyrics it is clear to see that the songs can either be be taken conceptually or in relation to claudio's life.
heard them play this live for the last time in brooklyn last year. epic shit. drove from boston to be there too.
thanks :0
It's your turn, come shoot for it...
If you win, well you can lead the way!!!!
It was originally played by Shabutie( coheed subtract Michael Todd/Chris Pennie and add Nate Kelly) other original songs done by Shabutie are Junesong, Delirium Trigger, Everything Evil, Devil In Jersey City, and Hearshot Kid Disaster.
Thank God they recovered your body in New Mexico.
@Godxela18 Yeah, but that's because it's so emotionally straining for him to sing it, he hates it because it brings back some tough times for him. But I think we can all agree it's a brilliant goddamn song.
so fucking good, every composite of this song just syncs so well, I feel like I'm on an undulating roller coaster of nostalgia
@JRGamingInc Awesome, I'm so happy for you =)
It's the prelude to In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 if I'm not mistaken. The song is about Mariah Antilarea's base in the desert being destroyed by Willhelm Ryan. Nikki could very well be Newo Ikkin.
"Staile, killed in defense."
(Staile, oh wo oh)
I can't believe I told you right after,
"I've given you up, go on find someone new."
Till then pretend, you've touched me for your last, (woah-ho)
I've given you up, go on find someone new.
its in the reissued version of second stage turbine blade along with the acoustic version of junesong provision and a demo of everything evil
If you listen to a lot of the live acoustic performances of this song, I believe the line "I merely came here", is actually, "Oh Nikki here". Also change staile to still and "til' then pretend, I've touched me before you'll ask her", and "I can't believe you're still cold here after". Anyone want to confirm these for me? The lyrics to this song are still very hard to decipher.
I've given you up, go on, find someone new!
this is NOT off second stage, it was later added to the re-release, but it's originally from the Equal Vision comp. "Inventing The Scene", the prize fighter inferno track 'missing mccloud boys' is on there too, but titled as 'i'm going to kill you'.
ELF POWER!!!!!!!!!
@MikeTheGuy00 Hm, I don't think anyone really knows why for 100% sure. But based off of most songs he's written, it probably has ties to some event in his real life. "I'm giving you up, go on, find someone new." Can really only mean romance.
So if I had to guess, it brings back some form of old bad brake-up memories to him. Maybe? Anyone else have an opinion?
@Th3MetalShockwave Aww man, you gotta see them!! And when you do, come find me at the show lol xD
Dear Nikki, what if I could've found a better half here in you?
The Bag On Line Adventures of Coheed and Cambria
@TPFInferno the lyrics in the live version are slightly altered from those of the studio version, to make it more contemporary to Claudio's life, I would imagine.
@JRGamingInc Haha, I think you wanna say my good maddam but I'd understand why you wouldn't think too lol. Well I mean Claudio said he was excited and sad to play it for the last time, I mean who knows. Perhaps they'll do another SSTB tour after 10 more yrs =D.
im pretty sure thats a Anax junius on the cover or some representitive of that genius :) coheed rules!
Cool, thanks for sharing
Art
Wow I love this song, I really wish they didn't play it acoustic during the sstb tour it just wasn't the same for me
liked since 2k7
Not a lot of people really know what the song is about. You're one of them.
Yeah, I agree
Where I was born :D
20,000th view! :D
I'm a little mad coheed doesnt perform this anymore! D: its so beast! :O
the end of it friggin killed my ears....
@snookion899
Not included on the original album, it´s just a demo, which were included on the re-release of the album.
Good question o.o,probably, but probably as shabutie....i meant they dont play it period, like they dont even consider it a song of theirs anymore xD
doing it live would be nice though,id love to hear it
@JRGamingInc Hehehe no you didn't offend me, I get it all the time, usually I just let ppl think I'm a dude lmao. And yeah I'd love to hear this whole album live again. Luckily for me though I saw them do SSTB twice.
CORRECT LYRICS: plyrics.com/lyrics/coheedandcambria/elftowernewmexico (DOT) html
@matthewsinist3r Listen to the acoustic verison they played on the Neverender Tour 2011, you will change your mind...
This song isn't part of the Amory Wars, and it wasn't originally on the album. It's a bonus track. That's why they didn't play it on night one. They could have done it as an encore, I suppose, since night one didn't even have one.
i think it fits the story pretty well even if it isnt technically part of it. its like Claudio telling newo hes leaving and forget about him.
@JRGamingInc Lucky! Well who knows, keep your fingers and toes crossed >.
thats why they are progressive rock but idc all of the cds were freaking awesome and he is such a cool guy and there will be a 5th cd. it will be a prequel and about coheed and cambria's story
I can see why the guys in Coheed decided to only include this as a bonus track. The song doesn't feel complete--like just a bunch of parts thrown together. However, I fucking love the chorus. Probably one of the best hooks on SSTB.
@KodoichiKumori I know the story, I was just interjecting a little humor into the comments instead of all the stupidly spread hate that flows freely.
@XaleManix Thank you
@xXOneAmongTheFenceXx There was the one that came with the second good apollo album but claudio was not satisfied with it so he wants to redo it in the style of SSTB and IKSOSE:3.
@whathelephant1251
Fortunately it´s a very high hill :D
I've been a Coheed fan since SSTB and have never heard this song until today. Why wasn't this on the original release? It's good stuff, will listen 12 more times to make sure my opinion stays the same.
its on the cd i have, released in 04 i think? idk
