    "One of today’s most celebrated and influential design firms creates eclectic, inspired, and quietly virtuosic interiors across the style spectrum-from bohemian glamour to country charm, sophisticated modern, and historically informed-for clients as individual in taste as Anna Wintour and Jessica Chastain.
    Here the Carriers showcase homes that express their clients’ personalities and dreams, through the practical filters of lifestyle and place-and reveal the design principles behind them. Their range spans a historic, art-filled New York duplex, replete with period vestiges, to an updated Mediterranean-style Southern California house with an art deco-era core, and a refreshed Connecticut lakeside retreat with glass expanses that capture the views. Discrete touches throughout lift the overall effect. For example, a cashmere-covered sofa transforms a library into a space not only for reading but also for contemplation while vibrant, orange leather lining turns kitchen cabinets from a necessity into an incredible luxury. This stunning book will appeal to design fans interested in chic, livable spaces."

    I'd be telling that ghost to shove over, so I could sit in that lovely chair, and there isn't much I wouldn't do to gain possession of that gorgeous plinth in the dining room. You're an excellent tour guide, and I love how you linger over details in each room, giving us a vivid sense of being there. I look forward to "the gardens and the gallows," an excellent title for a book. Thanks for always brightening my Friday evenings.

      I agree with you! I had the immediate urge to touch that chair, which was odd. So many of the antiques in this home were stunning.

    Oh Mary, I have to say that as much as I enjoyed discovering a new design book, the tour you took is on most certainly took center stage. There is something so special about going back in history. To learn about those that came before us I believe enriches our lives.
    Thank you so much for this wonderfull video. 😊

      You are very welcome. I agree with you on the delights of history, especially when you can touch it, see it, or oddly enough smell it. The kitchen had the most wonderful smell of aged, smokey charred wood and bees wax.

    Loved the tour of this historic home. My husband and i used to go to Williamsburg each year for a week and stay at the Williamsburg Inn. which is one of my most favorite places to stay, including the service and food. We would walk around and go to the open homes admiring the period decorating plus these priceless antiques You could also buy many products made as period copies of the certain items of Williamsburg, including China, Wallpaper and Fabrics and even some stationary products and much more. One of the last homes I restored looked very much like the one above using the current Williamsburg Colors on the Woodwork etc etc with the White Wash on the walls At the time I worked with Baldwin Brass to copy Williamsburg Brass hardware for the entire house. I had the antiques and the home itself was a Classic Georgian gone into badly needed state of repair inside and out, including all the landscaping,which i always did myself, Once finished they used to drive by and return parked in the street looking at the house and landscaping. When we eventually sold it the folks who bought it had taken years to restore a late 1800 home in Lansing. Mi so they appreciated all the work we did ourselves just because we loved it They walked in the home and by the time they left the realtor told me an offer was coming in. They bought it for the asking price after the realtor told them the story of the state of repair we did to the house. Many years later i returned home only to find that the house had been torn down and a new very contemorary home was being built in its place . I knew the architect, as we both had attended the University of Michigan School of Architecture at the same time but with a huge difference. I was a staunch Traditionalist and the Architect was known for his way out contemporary Architecture in which all his buildings look pretty much the same. One layer pancaked on top of another with a flat roof. You all can guess what i think about that plus so do all the neighbors who took them to court to try to stop it from being built. The entire area is full of beautiful old Georgian & Federal homes with some Tudors in the mix. Magnificent old trees and landscaping and you can quickly walk to town This is very high end real estate and just look at what they are now being allowed to do to it in the name of bringing it into the 21st Century. So sad; and this is now happening all across our great country.

      A truly heart breaking story. Things like that cause me mental anguish; to the point of physical pain. Often these older homes (if not completely destroyed) are gutted for an open concept. This act, in my opinion, is worse than vandalism!

      @@thetartantopiary They built a second ugly out of place Contemporary with no windows facing the front and hardly any widows in the not quite 5000 sq ft house. Again the neighbors took them to court to try to stop it but lost and I did not mention it but my realtor told me they then sued all the neighbors for trying to stop it and once again they won the case. I was stunned but now the neighbors who were trying to protect their investments and are now afraid to sell these magnificent homes because the large in city lots are worth as much as the house and unscrupulous builders buy them and then tear it down or build the new structure around it if it can not be torn down. I was serious a run down home in these streets are worth close to $ 3 million and up. Currently a builder bought a tudor across the street from mine there and is going to build a new very beautiful new shingle style on the lot It is listed before it is built at $6 million. The home has close to 6500 sq ft plus 3 car garage, And you know you start building you are going to add things that will push it much higher and improve the builders landscaping.or add a pool etc etc..More and more i see them adding elevators in these homes which is not a bad idea if the MBR is on the 2nd story.. Now add the finished basement also....You get the idea,

      Yes, beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but if we can surround ourselves with what we perceive as beautiful, it does feed the soul and soothe the mind and spirit.

    Hi Mary. I really enjoyed the book review and will probably be adding to my collection. Tour: Hard to wrap my head around something built in the 1700's. The home is intriguing and some parts very sad. One question, what was the lovely small crystal piece on the table sitting in a silk type case (like a pair of glasses but larger)? I thought it was unusual and had not seen anything like this. Was it for perfume? I also have a request...will you tell me how you added the colorful fabric in the beginning of each video when you have coffee/cookies? I love the cheerfulness of this and have an almost exact butler pantry like this. Is there a video showing how you did this? Please share. I so enjoy your talents and magic each Friday ~ have a great 4th of July and will see you for sure on the next one. 😍

    • @thetartantopiary
      @thetartantopiary  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are correct, this is a beautiful crystal and silver perfume bottle. It was donated by the Wright family who lived in the home from 1775 to 1869. The fabric in my butlers pantry is a simple remnant that. I placed it there after Christmas just to add a little color. I did share this on a video - th-cam.com/video/8FkiH7btBkE/w-d-xo.html
      I hope you gave a happy and safe Independence Day also!
