Got my custom Fastball in yesterday, that I designed on their custom shop. Not the cleaver version but I dig it. It’s my first ever designed it myself sorta deal. It’s pretty much tan blade, blacked out handle and hardware with my ikon138 on the blade. Nothing fancy, just classy.
i got the black one on sale for $80 it almost reminds me of a micro tech and the action is awesome... i picked this over a para 3 lightweight, griptilian and the more expensive para 3 in g10 which was about twice the price during the sale
If they nested the liner I think they would still have to do better finishing on the edge of the liner to fit it snuggly into the G10. But nesting it would definitely improve the aesthetics.
THANKS M.C.!! Aesthetically I like it. Kinda stops there. Still have the proverbial ax to grind with Gerber from a quality control issue years ago. Stay safe, stay sharp 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Ahh I love the “Made in the USA” but yeah it’s a Homely Kid lol but I’d still carry and have one.. I have the Propel Auto and it’s been back to Gerber twice due to minor issues but now it’s flawless, I hope they keep up good Q/C... great Video
This exact knife from the custom shop is $150, $165 in 20cv. That liner is the only thing that would give me pause but I imagine I would get past that for a user knife and the 20cv would be a worthwhile upgrade for $15.
So I have 3 of these and 1 is off the custom website, the biggest thing for me is is the consistency of quality in there liner locks. For example I have one that came with perfect detent and the lock bar locks perfect but my other 2 have too strong of a detent and the lock bar is suppper stiff. I saw that the quality was not as good as some of the other knives I got in the same price range which I don’t mind as long at the knife works at it should but even on the customs you have to worry about this
it’s the only american s30v edc option that doesn’t have plastic scales, i got one for only $80 bucks.. i did have to center the blade to get the perfect detent
I was looking at the Fastball or Sedulo from Gerber's custom shop. I was thinking about ordering something with lasered graphics and messing with the scale and hardware colors. It sounds like you haven't had a lot of luck with Gerber QC. Would you do a video about their user designed customs? Do you think they are worth it? Do you know any other companies with similar customization options?
I think that edge grind is atrocious, they designed a sharpening choil and then didn't sharpen to it! That'll be a right prick to fix in 20CV too, especially for people without powered systems or diamond stones, which is a bit more likely in the budget camp. Flashy steels are great but if they dropped it to 154CM or S35VN and fixed the grinds and the issues with the liners it would be a much better knife IMO.
@@imyouridol1605 Unless the owner recoated the blade, that is on Gerber - you can see how the coating dips down, I don't believe that area was sharp when the knife was first sold.
@@9thchamber499 ok. Maybe they were I never saw them that cheap. I know I can get one about $100 with a military account, but I never saw them for public sale for $110.
Well I'm glad I never got one tbh. I've heard a LOT of issues with this model even tho it looks pretty badass imo. Thanks for your service to the country btw.
@@9thchamber499 I have both the Wharncliffe and the clever one. The only issue I have had is the lockup bar is quite sharp and that has been the same for the fastballs and all the cleavers.
I wanna see gerber succeed but sadly their brand is synonymous with cheap... i think it would help if they make a distinction between their models by dividing it kinda like boker has magnum and plus and arbolito... gerber plus could be all of their higher end made in usa blades! If they tweek that factory and processes they can then be competitive! As of right now... I wouldn’t spend 100$ on any gerber aside maybe the 06,,, which i have and love! So many great usa made knives in that price range and even cheaper...
The edge of the liner is a remnant of punching them in a punch/die setup and not doing any finishing afterward.

Finally we get your opinion on the Gerber Fastball!! Lol

Nice looking knife. I really like the blade shape.
Been waiting for this one.
So im looking at knives online what is the difference between 20cv and s30v?

Is the lock up late on yours? It's late on mine. I think it's normal for this model?

Where did you find your fastball at $109? Cheapest one I’ve found is $140 un coated , $155 black blade..... plus tax
Did it come from the factory not using the sharpening choil like that?

This is so beautyfull
I want it
You can buy the DLT exclusive spyderco delica in 20CV for 105.00. It's cheaper and in my opinion a much better knife. Just a heads up.
The liner is nested you mean
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 new FASTBALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
You are going to have to put your own edge on this knife when you get it heads up
"Yuuck." - Metal Complex lmao
Not very impressed with the aluminum scaled version.Don't know if it would be worth $120.Thanx for the awesome content.
Anyone know if this is actually still available anywhere for $ 110?
Even when they came out they were $140-$145.

The clever in 20cv is $140 or $145 depending on color. The regular fastball in s30 is $100 was $109. I don't think the clever the clever has ever $109
Now just under $100 for 20cv/cleaver. 👌

Looks like a broken knife. They don't give any attention in this.
