I Upgraded KOALA SAMPLER to SAMURAI // Using Auto-Chop and Sequence Editor 🐨

  • Producing studio-level music does not always require a full studio of equipment. In fact, making full songs has never been more accessible, as it can be from many devices that you may already own. I have taken some of your advice and upgraded to Koala’s Samurai edition. Needless to say, I definitely think it’s worth the small cost, and recommend it if you are looking to start making sample based music! (#NotSponsored)
For this beat I used the Koala Sampler on iPad as the standalone tool to flip the Dells/Dramatics sample, sequence drums, and sequence the bassline.
I hope you enjoy this workflow and the sample based beat, and I hope the video provides some inspiration for your own production. I will be in the comments, so let me know if you want to see more videos like this one!

The app itself is $4.99 and the Samurai Edition is $3.99, so for $8.98 you really are getting an incredible deal and value for the money.

A tip for people that want to use Koala, but don’t have vinyl to sample from (I’m very new to beat making and have yet to start a vinyl collection). You can search for videos of vinyl recordings of whatever kind of music you’re looking for and record pieces you want using the screen recording feature on whatever device you have. Then you can upload it to Koala as a video file.

Also , Android users dont have the screen capture option , so you can just use a free online youtube to wav converter , convert the video to a wav, download and then import it. Takes a couple minutes. Pretty obvious but android users new to this type of beat making might not be aware

Love you shouting out your digging spots. I agree… local record stores should be celebrated as much as possible. These shouldn’t be considered secrets by producers and djs… I’m sure these businesses would appreciate additional business… especially if they are struggling a bit. Or maybe it would afford them to increase inventory. Not to mention it’s an easy way to help yourself by helping others.

FYI…the Presonus Atom is a great companion midi controller for pads. I use that with my old Arturia mini MK1 for keys. The Atom SQ also looks like it could b more functional with additional knobs and keys that double as pads.

I got super hyped about the SP404 MK2 but was hesitant to splash that much cash just in case I didn’t vibe with the workflow. I got koala to see if I would like the workflow and I have not looked back! Maybe one day I’ll cop the SP but for now this app is a godsend.

I’m NGL- I chop on the MPC One but, I almost always bounce it to mix on my iPad then bounce back to my mpc’s/SP’s. Koala, especially once you know what you’re doing (ie low pass+flanger= 303 vinyl sim flutter. Re sample then, compress). Nobody outside of mixing engineers is gonna know the difference. Honestly that’s prolly 50/50 too. Beatmaker3 and Koala cannot be beat imo. If you’re trying too save up for an MPC- just download BM3 so you know wtf you’re doing when you get an actual MPC lol Fr. (It’s set up the same). Yea dude Koala is fire.

very informative video, recently been looking at making music again after teenage engineering released some overpriced piece of shit successor to the op-1, remembered reading about koala sampler in the teenage engineering subreddit and now wondering why i didn't get it earlier, it looks to be very suited to sp/mpc style users, sampling/sequencing and the like, surprisingly there were no apps like this for years especially for android

  • @thekeysman6760

Wait, what? Surely, due to impedance your deck is going through an amp or something prior to iPad input? And therefore you can turn it down prior to the iPad? If not, there is your answer re. a hot output.
