- Toyota Tacoma 3rd Gen LED Tail Lights are a Popular and EASY upgrade to ANY trim level. The @AlphaRexUSA Luxx Sequential LED Tail Lights in the Black variant were my choice and they deleted all of the chrome along with giving my Lunar Rock TRD OffRoad 4x4 a great stealth look. Come along and I show you the install and how they look during the daytime, at dusk and the evening.

Quick update on these lights - Had them since this video and on August 5th (2 months), my co-worker pointed out that my passenger tail light was out. I pulled the light, checked all of the connectors and every plug was checked and fully clicked. What was odd was that the blinkers, hazards and lock/unlock all worked, just no DRL/Full Lights were working. I noticed several wires going into the light through a grommet and as I wiggled them, the light flickered on. I emailed Alpharex and submitted photos. I was asked to move the passenger light to the driver and see if the issue followed the light - and it did, which I let them know. Then they wanted a photo of that to prove it didn't work. Really? The previous photos weren't good enough of it not working? So, I complied with their demands and swapped them again, took photo and video and submitted. Now they want me to disassemble their light and check a prong internally on their light. That's a negative ghost rider.....They finally approved my warranty claim, but then tell me that I have to contact the retailer to let them know they approved the warranty and somehow in the distant future I may or may not receive a replacement light. Alpharex doesn't have my info at all, but somehow they're going to ship me a light. We will see how this plays out, but I'm not too impressed with Alpharex and their after sale support. They have a 2 year warranty and will try and wear you out with hoops and juggling. Stay tuned for an update video.
UPDATE: It really helped that I knew someone at Cali-Raised (where I got the Alpharex tails) - they contacted Alpharex and I'm guessing gave the thumbs up. I received the new tail last week and re-installed. All seems to be good, but I'm not confident on recommending Alpharex as a good alternative to stock. I'm considering getting the SR/TRD Pro lights (no chrome) and doing an LED bulb swap to have something reliable for tail lights....we will see how long this replacement lasts.
Had similar problem with alpharex after my tail lights started malfunctioning. Kept asking for more photos of same bs over and over and making jump through bunch of hoops. I gave up and put OEMs back on . And won't going buying any of there stuff in future. Sucks cause there head lights look so nice but can't risk a 1500$ plus malfunction again
Ya know, I'm new to the taco world and just picked up a 2022 3rd gen with only 7 thousand miles on it for a good price.
This was the last video before I pressed the purchase button and I gotta tell ya both. I pumped the breaks hard on this purchase now and I'm looking elsewhere.
Don't need the added bullshit in my life right now and companies like this need to know who butters thier bread.
Thanks brothers!
Thanks for this. I will not buy alphas now. Prob go with oem pros.
Damn was about to buy alphas too ! Thanks for feedback on their customer service
I put the Luxx on my Silverado 1500 a number of months ago ... still working great!
Good to hear - hopefully they keep going!
ohhh I So want these for my new 2023 Taco !!
They're a great addition and literally just plug and play - 10 minutes
That plastic pull was satisfying
🤣🤣Yes, same on this side of the camera! lol
I’m glad that I read your experience with alpharex I bought some cheap tails off Amazon let’s see how long they hold up. You would think alpharex would of been easy to deal with.
Glad to help. I agree, you'd think for the pricing, Alpharex would take care of their customers regardless of where you purchased. Provide proof of purchase and all should be good. It's like they didn't want to honor their warranty?? They finally did send me a replacement and it's been working so far, but I'm skeptical on these. I may opt for something else in the near future and resale these.
Do you like these more than the Form lights you made a video on? Why’d you switch?
I like the AlphaRex LUXX better…for a couple of reasons…..1. They have that premium LED light look, like what I see on Teslas (not a fan of the car, but the tails look good) and higher end cars. 2. The Black version gives even a better stealth look. 3. After having the Forms on for less than a month, the driver side started hyper flashing. I contacted Form and honestly, they gave me the run around for over a month. They finally agreed to replace just the driver side, which of course, they were on back order for nearly 3 months. I already got the AlphaRex by the time the Form’s replacement arrived. Good thing I kept my stocks.
@@tacomanetwork gotcha. Thanks for the reply. I’ll be considering the Luxx when I’m ready to upgrade my stock lights.
Looking for some 2018 f150 taillights with amber turn signals. Did some research and the AlphaRex Luxx black may have fans installed that hums really loud. On their website they show how to unplug the fans. Also looking at the light spillage it looks like the entire taillight illuminates when the turn signal is on. I wish there were dedicated areas in the design for each color. I think they look cool but functionality seems a little under designed. Just my opinion as i was excited about the startup sequence and the cool factor but I'm seeing some things i personally don't fancy if i'm shelling out $315-$440 on these depending on where you buy it.
All good points. As for the fans - mine are not audible to me when the truck/lights are on. I'm not that critical (light spillage, etc) on my LED upgraded lights. I just want them to work and look decent over stock....and not leak, which these haven't.
@@tacomanetwork i'm noticing some condensation in my right stock taillight and the signal on my dash flickers faster than the left signal. Looking for aftermarket replacement. Not sure why most manufacturers are only putting amber on the higher trim levels.
@@AinsZ Which ever light is flashing faster on your dash usually means you have a bulb out (I have an F150 as well as the Tacoma).
Is it legal especially in California?
100% DOT compliant. I’m in CA, no issues
What about hazard light mod?
Will it be red or amber light?
I'm color blind....but they're the same as the blinkers
miss the rc videos you did
Hey! Yeah, it was a fun run for 10 years....moved on to other hobbies now.
Wait help I got these but how did you get that little sequence on the first clip at 1:03
With the truck and lights off, start the truck, then turn on the lights. Your lights can't be on "auto"
@@tacomanetwork wait so it not on remote start? I thought that was the reason I wasn’t seeing it
Any ody have blown fuses issues?
I haven't. But I have heard of people chasing problems with aftermarket lights after install. Usually it has to do with the wiring and being exposed somewhere on the line.
@tacomanetwork I've seen most of the issues with those Amazon lights the windjets I believe. Hopefully Alpharex have better longevity
TacomaBeast says these are SAE and DOT approved but most videos say they're illegal because they are smoked. Do you know if they are actually illegal or not?
This is straight off of Alpharex's site:
SAE/DOT Compliance: Our 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma LED tail lights are with OE quality and are compliant with SAE and DOT regulations. We inspect every detail of the lights to make sure we are satisfied and so are our customers. You'll have to check your country/states specific regulations, as I'm sure they can change from state to state. I'm not an expert on the law, but am aware of the reflective issue with them being smoked. I f you look at the center section, there's a red reflector built in, which does work great. If this model (Black / Luxx) doesn't work for you, take a look at the other colors like the Alpha Black, which has a brighter red center section
Also, reading into the standards: "SAE guides the quality of the product and the DOT tests the product to make sure it is fully compliant with transportation law and approved for use on all US roads and highways"
Are these the “Black” or “Alpha Black” variant?
Online it says the black has chrome in it, but I didn’t see any chrome in your video.
They’re the Black version, not Alpha Black
And zero chrome....I wouldn't have bought them if they had chrome!😁
So does the alpha
Black not have chrome??? I’m confused… I want no chrome and no red
@@86steventura got these tail lights and actually installed 4 days ago. Confirmed the website is incorrect and the black version does NOT have any chrome. Can also say I am impressed with the lights, but not alpharex customer service at all. One light was missing a speed clip and the other was plugged in for non sequential, even though they are supposedly sequential from factory, which caused me to have to open the light up and fish for a wire to unplug that was almost impossible to find. It is a grey wire now, not blue btw. Unplugged wrong one and it killed drls and running lights and when plugged back in it popped by tail fuse under the dash. Replaced the fuse and had no issues since.
