Thank you for this and all your videos. you are direct and very knowledgeable. You do not mince words or tip toe around the topic. There is often no mollycoddling & there will always be people that get butt sore from that. It comes from your love of dogs. IMHO the Increased flow of Pets
(some pandemic related) has led to an insurgence of ‘speed training’. Well done sir.

Thank you for so clearly explaining my same views on the e-collar... Why are trainers just ploping remotes in the hands of people who can't even read body language or understand timing?

Sir, I have to question the "always aversive" you mentioned. I decided to use an ecollar on my latest dog to prevent a near disastrous experience happening again. Ie, caught on a beach, in a storm, driving the tide in VERY fast. Dog happily chasing seagulls AWAY from me [out of shout or whistle distance]. Managed to catch her, but I was 20 years younger. Had to wade through waist deep water, dog swimming. My current dog regards the stim as communication. She is a Police Bred GSD, so I presume "hard". As a GSD she is really vocal if I produce a ball, or we play rough. If I stop her killing cats, NOT chuffed. I do have to go high for them. Her response has ALWAYS been speed of bullet immediate recall, tail wagging GSD grin. I took a year to layer this over her longline training. It's not always aversive.

First off a few things about me. I have been teaching people to use eCollars for about 15 years. I own more than a dozen eCollars so I am certainly not a hater. If you look at my other videos, you will find that contrary to the large percentage of the industry I am very transparent and honest about the way things work.
Yes, you can pair a low level stimulation to a reward and then you achieve Classical Conditioning where something very slightly negative becomes part of a conditioned response and the stimulus might not / won't have a negative emotion associated with it. That isn't what +95% or more of eCollar users are doing though. I cover this is in many of my videos.
" My current dog regards the stim as communication."
Your dog knows that a lower level stimulation can become a much larger one, so if it is communication it is a message loaded with duress. If I yell NO at you and you know that if you continue with the current activity I will punch your head, that Noooo!!! becomes an aversive. Many things can be an aversive. It is an aversive even though I didnt touch you. I cover some of that in my video on the vibrate function.
      I cover marketing nonsense here...

The reason eCollars are getting banned is because too many fools are picking them up not having the proper education. If that lady had called me up and I started to speak to her about the importance of timing, superstitions, proper contact, avoidance vs escape training, the need for a larger correction at some point and classical conditioning vs operant conditioning, I would wager $1000 it would be a "deer in the headlights".
As mentioned I run a 13,000 member eCollar group and I run into individuals every day that are obviously "challenged" with their knowledge of eCollars. Many of them have never put any foundation on their dog. Again, this apologist mindset will get a good tool banned.
Now the question is, did you disagree with the overall message of the video?

@@SigmaDogs Thank you. My comment was just my observation with my dog. An "anything is possible" thing. No, absolutely NO criticism of you. Please accept my apology.

@@patmunro3531 No apology needed. I needed to say something to counteract the bogus marketing that have so many people thinking that the collar never hurts. As I said I love eCollars in that they give the dog a better life, but this communication-only stuff in my opinion is pure nonsense. If Communication is all one needs, why not buy a $10 whistle. Yup...start doing the critical thinking as to WHY the eCollar actually works.

I am curious as to what you think about these videos? Any subjects you would like covered?

@@SigmaDogs hi 🙂. This is REALLY specific, but my dog (a Corso) is reactive to certain types of dog only and I can’t really see a reason and it’s difficult to predict and therefore do any threshold work. Any videos on that and confidence building (I suspect he may be fear reactive) would be interesting - I play tug with him to try and build confidence already.
Also, this sounds basic but a video on living with dogs, e.g. how much structure does a dog benefit from? What does a typical day look like? 1 one hour walk in the evening? 1 thirty minute walk in morning and 1 hour walk in the evening with training session? Allowed on furniture or not, only when given permission? Etc.
A video on how to get dogs to relax as well. I assume place would be an element, but I wouldn’t want my dog to stay on place for hours at a time but I also wouldn’t want him to leave place without being instructed to.
