I wonder how would you update this deck for 2020? I decided to try this deck after my Secret Lair Summer Drop arrived. Considering to replace 2 Goldmanes with 2 Greathearted, also add 2 x Strength of the Pride instead of 1 x Caller of the Pride and Unyielding (may be). May be add another axis of attack with Heliod and Walking Ballista? Can't decide wether any other utility cards like Mazemind Tome is necessary. Any ideas?
Like, Oath of Amani feels like it has to be pretty solid here? Buffs hexproof creatures, makes the expensive walkers cheaper/ lets you get out the 4-drops on T3.
Yeah I think your title might want to say "Tribal" and not "Trial". But that thumbnail is so sweet. Makes me think of Bohemian Rhapsody. And that game against Mardu Vampires was insanity. I thought you might accidentally crack a fetch land again though.
Honestly even though the deck was only a little red I half expected to see blood moons knowing Seth. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed they weren't there or not tbh.
Ever since we switched to the one-video format. People just never look (for non-Against the Odds matches it has time stamps for each individual match too).
Very confusing editing at 29:40. I sat here for five minutes going back and forth trying to figure out what happened to the Ajani before realizing the opponent cast another Bolt that didn't get mentioned or shown.
I realize this video is very old, but the match against the hangarbacks was won because of the perfect sideboarding and a timely Ajani draw. The Ajani finisher was probably the only reason it was included in this video because it did not exactly show off the Ajanis.
So, does that hardened affinity deck with evolutionary leap run rec sages? Seems like that deck could get more consistent enchantment hate with something they can hit off of leap.
seth i subbed as soon as i found your budget magic series. really has helped me getting back into the game man. also might be a little late, but congrats on 161k! :)
Ajani Vengeance is one ot he better stand-alone Ajanis, but now that we've got a bunch of hexproof creatures he actually gets a lot worse (often being an expensive Lightning Helix and not pumping our creatures).
Hey Seth, I have a potentially good fish doctor topic which I think needs to be addressed for people like me. I was wondering how to control the diversity about your deck's sideboard, because I usually put sideboard cards in groups in 2-3 with decks without card selection, but I see you have put 1-ofs in your sideboard. A response or a like would be appreciated, so thanks in advance!
Hunkn0w0, I already know that but why doesn't Seth just use multiple copies of the same card for redundancy instead of trying to cover more match ups with only 1-of's? Thanks for the reply.
I don't know why the guy wouldn't swing with aetherborne constantly it first strike deathtouch made it impossible for you to die and he'd still gain the whole time.
Turns out, I didn't remember what most of these Ajanis actually do. (Less then the 6 mana version.) Worshipping the vampire guy still looked super sweet. Great video!
what was sideboarding around 44:50? I have no idea what happened then I hear Seth talking about Worship and sideboarding and just either show us the changes, show us the lack of changes, or don't talk about things you're not showing us unrelatedly, at 46:10 Seth "and we keep that benefit through our opponent's turn" no, no you don't
Boros ajani is the best one... And I will stand by that... also while trying to find the best tribe in green black elves just ran five hundred times better then zombies so I'm sticking zombies in the trash until they get even more busted stuff
One of the unwritten rules of planeswalker tribal is no Doubling Season allow (since it would be the right way to build every planeswalker tribal deck, but much less fun). Hardened Scales could be sweet though.
You can vote for next week's deck here! www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/against-the-odds-ajani-tribal-modern
Barista Tower Archer? He defends the ramparts, but can also make you a nice latte.
Darn, beat me to what probably would have been a less clever quip
Me as well, that was a great alternate name for that card :)
Never change, Seth.
Hes doing it just for the lul now isnt he?
no he's actually the security guard at the local castle's starbucks
Ajani Tribal may have been done before, but our innovator in chief brought us Ajani Trial. A hero, for sure.
Dante White The title Innovator in Chief sounds like a commander deck
I'm going to start calling all of my typos innovations.
it cant be against the odds if its been done before
Ajani & Order
Seth:
-A small Japanese tournament
-The noblest of hiarchs
-Ship the turn
-And opponent scoops it up
“Unlike Gideon or Nissa, Ajanis don’t do much on their own”
Why Seth, that’s why we use real planeswalkers like Tibalt.
We need more Tibalts for Tibalt tribal!
Flavour win for cats?
Ajani is my senpai
Very pleased Seth didn't crack the fetch land at 1 life, got me sweating there.
Course he didn't his name isn't Conley Woods lol.
At least Conley knew he lost when he lost to his own lands
Seth literally killed himself by cracking a fetch at 1 life like a month ago....lol That's what Tim Wu was likely referencing.
The amout of editing you put in you're videos to skip the boring pause moments is impressive. Have a well deserved like. :)
Games start at 9:20
I have been waiting for this one! Ajani is my favorite planeswalkers and it’s so exciting to see you make a deck around him! Thanks a lot!
Montero Same here!
27:50 that swamp is really green
Love Ajani! This was awesome. Ajani Goldmane was my first planeswalker!
This deck should have been named. “Powerful White Sideboard Cards...Also some Ajanis”
Getting powerful white sideboard cards is one of the reasons to play Ajanis ;)
“Barista tower archer and Selena ledgewalker” knew it was gonna be an amazing episode right away.
Barista tower archer 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
bolas tribal when?
Bryan Davie when the last set in the new ravnica block comes out?
MHRCQAMWBFW
Bolas means balls in pt-br. Balls party sound like a very gay party
It's on the list. I think Tezzeret and Nicol Bolas are next in line. Also maybe Chandra, although that would probably be very similar to Free Win Red.
but what about Nissa? :(
Literally favorite AtO ever. Thank you thank you thank you
That last match... so good, made my night.
That thumbnail was the best. You sold me on it
Omg this Ajani tribal deck is legit! Very fun games! Best Planeswalker tribal since Gideon!
40:32 - If we were going to Path Overseer on Upkeep, why not just do it on our turn when it can't activate at all?
I wonder how would you update this deck for 2020? I decided to try this deck after my Secret Lair Summer Drop arrived. Considering to replace 2 Goldmanes with 2 Greathearted, also add 2 x Strength of the Pride instead of 1 x Caller of the Pride and Unyielding (may be). Oh my, Ajani Bohemian Rhapsody thumbnail! Awesome work Fabiano!
Like, Oath of Amani feels like it has to be pretty solid here? Buffs hexproof creatures, makes the expensive walkers cheaper/ lets you get out the 4-drops on T3.
Ajani, my second favorite planeswalker. Sorin, still my favorite. Sweet brew Seth!
"Ajani Be Good" lol
What kinda boy are you Ajani? (yes I realize that's from 'be good johnny' and not 'johnny b goode')
someone plz make somethign out of this. it is too funny to pass up
LOLZ!😆👌
Yeah I think your title might want to say "Tribal" and not "Trial".
But that thumbnail is so sweet. Makes me think of Bohemian Rhapsody.
And that game against Mardu Vampires was insanity. I thought you might accidentally crack a fetch land again though.
Queen thumbnail is on point
Path to Exile is Ajani being patronized by the rest of his tribe cause he was an albino.
Colin Brown wow racismo
#catlivesmatter
In 4:52, how did bassara became barista??
I want the thumbnail for sleeves! You guys rock!
Would be sweet!
These thumbnails are terrific!
Honestly even though the deck was only a little red I half expected to see blood moons knowing Seth. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed they weren't there or not tbh.
Just noticed the games: [time] thing in the description. Not sure how long you've been doing that, but I like it!
Ever since we switched to the one-video format. People just never look (for non-Against the Odds matches it has time stamps for each individual match too).
Yes! I was waiting for another plaineswalker tribal :D
Title says trial instead of tribal
This deck is a trial lol
Fixed now
4:53 I like the 'Barista Tower Archer'
Very confusing editing at 29:40. I sat here for five minutes going back and forth trying to figure out what happened to the Ajani before realizing the opponent cast another Bolt that didn't get mentioned or shown.
Wouldn’t Doubling Season make sense with the 1/1 counters and all the walkers? Perhaps Heroic Intervention?
Why did ajani disappear at 29:43 ? Did I miss something? Opponent plays captivating vampire And Ajani goes poof.
@1:57 AJANI BE GOOD! Ajani be good -peter tosh
Where’d ajani go at 29:45?
Bolt. He edits videos for length, so that prob got cut out, but if you look at opponents gy you can see he must have bolted ajani
Seems like it should, at least in the sideboard.
I squealed when I saw this video and the thumbnail is great!
That game against your Mardu vampers was one for the ages.
Yeah, that was pretty insane.
seth i subbed as soon as i found your budget magic series. really has helped me getting back into the game man. also might be a little late, but congrats on 161k! :)
So much fun! Would creature lands just be great in this deck. Counters don’t fall off.
I reckon they would help. Gives you some late game action.
I wanna see more of this😭
Normally I would think that Ajani Trial is a typo, but this is Ajani Tribal we are talking about, calling it a trial is the MOST appropriate name.
At 41:00 with all four nobles, I really just wanted to maestrom pulse them. ☺️ it would be beautiful.
How about Shalai?
Hey Seth, could you do an against the odds based around spellweaver volute?
Love it already and I’m at the 0:01 mark
Did he just misplay the lethal at 18:35?
They could sack and get a bunch of blockers.
Deeeeewd this deck was friggin' sweet!
I thought my burn deck was spicy but that boros landfall deck was something
I think the phrase "literally going to town" should be reserved for creatures getting buffed by Gavony Township.
I still need to watch this Trial, but I'm expecting a good 0-5.
Spoiler: Nope.
Yeah, just watched. Some stange matches.
I'm disappointed in you Seth. I don't see Mana Tithe anywhere.
LIGHTNING HELIX! OH MY GOOOOD
I want to see a Ajani/Gideon hybrid tribal deck.
Is the thumbnail image available somewhere? I want it as my desktop's wallpaper... :p
I tweeted it a while ago, if you email me I can send it to you (SaffronOlive@MTGGoldfish.com)
A Worship Ascetic shell with a bunch of cats. A trial for sure.
Squadron Hawks?
Only one ajani vengeant? I thought it was the more standalone of the bunch, which is something you even mentioned during the deck tech
Ajani Vengeance is one ot he better stand-alone Ajanis, but now that we've got a bunch of hexproof creatures he actually gets a lot worse (often being an expensive Lightning Helix and not pumping our creatures).
Try to play Sqadron hawks in this deck pls
Did you done chandra tribal? if you didn't please do chandra next for planeswalker tribal.
Chandra tribal is on the list, but I'm afraid it will mostly be Chandras, Blood Moons and Ensnaring Bridge.
Seth unknowingly playing his most hated deck, bogles.
Mostly by accident :)
What did we learn about Ajani tribal? That appropriate sideboard cards are as, if not more, important than your main deck. :P
Maybe sideboard torpor orb.
I feel like not including Oath of Ajani was a flavor fail, but deck was sweet, for sure.
Hmmm no Carnage Tyrants in the main or side seems like a bad idea.
I thought about adding a Thurn for control, might be worth it in the sideboard.
Where is Oath of Ajani???
Hey Seth, I have a potentially good fish doctor topic which I think needs to be addressed for people like me. I was wondering how to control the diversity about your deck's sideboard, because I usually put sideboard cards in groups in 2-3 with decks without card selection, but I see you have put 1-ofs in your sideboard. you dedicate more spaces to your worst match ups and to counter meta decks, that's all.
Hunkn0w0, I already know that but why doesn't Seth just use multiple copies of the same card for redundancy instead of trying to cover more match ups with only 1-of's? Thanks for the reply.
Sounds interesting!
MTGGoldfish Thank you so much for responding!
Bring us more TRIAL decks! No more of the tribal nonsense!
Seth: "Soooo, what did we learn this week?"
That white has super strong sb cards?
The war of the spark Ajani is just Goldmane and Steadfast mashed together
Im basically here to help with my Ajani tribal commander deck which I think will be interesting
When he says “play a swamp” *plays forest*. 27:50
Love planeswalker tribal decks nissa tribal next?
You only need Mana creating creatures, a few hexproof and 4x walking ballista. Ballista is the ajani tribe's bff
Hey! That’s pretty good!
I don't know why the guy wouldn't swing with aetherborne constantly it first strike deathtouch made it impossible for you to die and he'd still gain the whole time.
Yeah, I'm glad he didn't. Would have taken even longer to eventually kill him.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that the whole time, that probably would've been an extra 100 life easy over that game.
That last match!!
Is this a Johnny deck?
This is the perfect video to show why sideboards are important.
Yeah, the sideboard was important, that's for sure.
Ajani! *hasn't actually watched the video* This is going to be my favorite!
Turns out, I didn't remember what most of these Ajanis actually do. (Less then the 6 mana version.) Worshipping the vampire guy still looked super sweet. Great video!
Does anyone has an mtg arena key?
27:51 nice swamp
“Ajani Trial”, “Barista Tower Archer”, “Salheena Ledgewalker”. Cmon, Seth
This pleases me.
I can't help but feel this is a missed opportunity for a Glittering Wish build.
That game against the vampire deck was the best, worst, most brilliant, and dumbest Magic can be. Bravo. Just incredible
what was sideboarding around 44:50? I have no idea what happened then I hear Seth talking about Worship and sideboarding and just
either show us the changes, show us the lack of changes, or don't talk about things you're not showing us
unrelatedly, at 46:10 Seth "and we keep that benefit through our opponent's turn"
no, no you don't
Yeah. We don't keep the benefits through the opponent's turn. I'm not sure why I thought we did :(
No Bogle? ;~;
23:18 play of the game
43:02 Seth, icelandic J's are pronounced like Y's. Jotun = Yotun. The same goes for Jotunheim, Jokulhaups, and Eyjafjallajokull.
Ah, darn Ice Age names :)
Bless you.
Boros ajani is the best one... And I will stand by that... also while trying to find the best tribe in green black elves just ran five hundred times better then zombies so I'm sticking zombies in the trash until they get even more busted stuff
May want to update the video title to Ajani Tribal instead of Trial, Seth!
Updated.
Thanks Seth, gameplay was great btw!
Needs doubling season. Or hardened scales
One of the unwritten rules of planeswalker tribal is no Doubling Season allow (since it would be the right way to build every planeswalker tribal deck, but much less fun). Hardened Scales could be sweet though.
True that.
50 Shades of Ajani.
