why do people treat zelda 2 like garbage??? the game litteraly only asks for skill an patience, just like the first zelda, yes the translation is cryptic... JUST LIKE THE FIRST ZELDA idk dude the game has done so much for the series you cannot do a video on what made zelda by just dunking on this game. And what??? the game isn't fun?? learning to the ennemy patterns, solving the dungeons, the overworld quests, discovering the multiple fighting techniques isn't fun? You didn't understand it or maybe you don't have the patience to develop the skill needed to handle the fights, then it's fine, just don't dunk on it for that reason, people love dark souls nowadays yet zelda 2 still gets dunked on? fuck this world.
Zelda 2 discourse got you black pilled I see? For me it's like using every bit of energy I have just to make it to the next day and be in the same situation.
20:30 Actually there are three possible locations for the lamp. The chest in Link's house, the chest in the secret entrance just past your uncle, and the chest next to Zelda. Opening up any of these chests when you already have the lamp yields some rupees instead. Main reason for this is if you are defeated after rescuing Zelda, your starting point is in the cell with her (right where the chest is). So if you didn't grab the lamp before rescuing Zelda, you'd be screwed if the lamp wasn't there.
That four-hooked symbol is a swastika when it’s oriented diagonally. It is a manji when it’s oriented horizontally, which is an ancient Vedic charm adopted by Buddhism and as such has no connection to white supremacy or fascism.
9:03 - Just casually showing how to finish Super Mario World. 😁 I'd been unable to figure that out! I'm actually rather happy to discover the solution by paying attention to the background of a video like this.
So people shit on Zelda 2 but consider this, lots of enemies in Zelda 2 have remained mainstays including goriyas, zols, and lizalfos, towns and variety of that started in Zelda 2, spells in Zelda 2 have continued to stay in future Zelda’s including shield, fire, and thunder, and dark link who continues to pop up in different contexts started from Zelda 2. I could go on but you get the point. Yeah Zelda 2 is tough, it’s cryptic and sometimes it’s flat out unfair death mountain and great palace are the PRIME examples but the rpg elements of leveling up were innovative as hell at that time, the music is absolute fire, and honestly the combat for a game from 1988 was wild! Just something to consider from someone who played Zelda 2 as a kid when it was first out!! 😁😁💪👊 Big add though, Zelda 3 is amazing and still to this day is my favorite Zelda ever! I know it’s nostalgia and I don’t care. That game was magical to me at age 11!! 😍😍
That hole in the dungeon floor had me puzzled for days! I kept falling in and missing the platform. It took me days as a kid to figure out you had to actually fall from the top to reach.
Zelda 2 is amazers. It just has a bad rap for changing the formula. I enjoy the game and if they remade it in the style of a Metroid Dread... I'd buy it now.
Skipping Zelda 2 is bad. It's foundational. Themes and mechanics from Zelda 2 were carried over and informed the Design of Ocarina of time. You know, the core mainline foundation of Zelda. You need to correct this error. It's a diamond in the rough for sure but its a very important title establishing Zelda as a whole.
You know I’m not going to disagree with you there. As I played that one I realized I didn’t have anything to really say about outside the context of other Zelda’s. So rather than dedicate its own video I will bring more of it up in its influence on Ocarina of Time and the trajectory of 3D Zeldas.
@@SuperMetaFun An interesting bit of trivia is that the sages in OoT were named after the towns in Zelda 2. But given their respective places in the timeline, the lore would be that the towns were named after the sages instead.
At this point I'm convinced he's doing it to get a reaction. The sad thing is that it takes away from the video and makes me less interested in watching. Great videos to be sure, but with the mispronounciations and audio dropout I feel like there are better video essays out there that pretty much say the same thing.
You've got like 20 seconds of dead air around the 3:15 mark
A Link to the past is what got me into playing Zelda it just glues you in

10:46 Don't forget, having a map in general was innovative on it own!

You made a Zelda video essay fun… I subscribed

Is that Paul Rudd at 7:19??
Yes it most certainly is.

Honestly Zelda 2 is amazing and the terrible switch open world games would have been better if they were rpgs like Zelda 2.
Ocarina as a foundation whaaaaaaat

Yeah Zelda 2 is 🔥and was WAY ahead of it’s time when it first came out, despite the difficulty, unfairness at times and cryptic nature! 👊👊

It defined my childhood, that’s for sure. What an amazing game.
What's the music you used for the closing?
let’s all admit it, a modern 2d zelda could be pretty sweet theoretically
I'm loving this series, great analysis, but can the "clipping volume, too loud because funny" joke please be done already?
Zelda || was my first Zelda game. How dare you skip this one? As a kid I loved it! The shift between over-world and side scrolling was amazing. Shame!
Adventure of linknis the best of any zelda... I'd trade all other titles to get a sequel to it
Ehem... It's pronounced "Mee-yah-moh-toh" spelled Miyamoto
