    Super Metroid is already the greatest game ever, so I really appreciated Fusion doing something so different. I think it's a great sequel to Super Metroid. They complement each other.

    good vid but you should really cite your sources. there are some details in here that very obviously could've only come from a specific place and they should be given their fair due

      You are absolutely right. I really need to do that. This originally started as a project during the pandemic to work on my editing and production skills. But I really need to do that. Going forward I will do that, but I am also going to go back and add citations to previous videos where I can. Even though those were made...man almost four years ago now...Time flies.

    Despite Sakamoto not being involved in its production, Metroid 2: The Return of Samus takes a similar approach to Fusion, in that it locks off certain areas until the current objective is met. Designing for handheld was something of a solved problem for the series that Fusion modified in some good and some not so good ways. I would have liked to see this brought up in the video, and if you have links to the interviews I'd like to see if The Return of Samus is brought up in them. Small nitpick, but great video otherwise. Thanks man.

    I love so many things about fusion, but it being so linear, no single walljump, and no bombjump is sacrilege and goes against metroids design

    Metroid 4 was fun, Super was better. Maybe they should have done a 2d Metroid on the N64 first and called that 4 and have Fusion as a standalone GBA experience

    • @SuperMetaFun
      @SuperMetaFun  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sakamoto was primarily in charge of making Game Boy Games at that time. His team did make Sin and Punishment, but the home console games were Miyamoto's realm. Sakamoto did consider making a Metroid for the N64 but he did not know how to translate the gameplay from Super Metroid to the 3D realm with the N64 controller. They baffled him.

    Who was responsible for the game boy? Bruh...

    • @SuperMetaFun
      @SuperMetaFun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gunpei Yokoi managed the development of the Game Boy. But Okada lead the project and was the one that wanted interchangeable cartridges like the NES. Yokoi hated the NES. Hated it. He wanted the Game Boy to be single game systems like Game & Watch. Okada and Yokoi would get in heated arguments about it before Yokoi finally gave in. So yeah Okada was responsible for the reason the Game Boy was the Game Boy.

      @mjorge0alves ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, by the date of its release, Super Metroid was the best game ever produced. It is still, possibly, the best 2D game. So it is really hard to improve from it, specially when it created things which are really hard to reproduce: that feeling of loneliness, the eerie atmosphere, the friendly fauna that teaches you secret moves, the replayability those moves add, the speedrunning design/objective, or the cinematic ending. You experience many of those only once, and this experience is not replaceable.

      You do realize that Dread was conceptualized for the DS and only didn't hit production because the hardware couldn't handle the game? If anything, it was behind the scenes stubbornness that lead to the lack of further 2D games.
      It would have happened either way. Not Fusion's fault at all.
