  • Since the demo went live ( steam.starships... ), we have been busy updating the galaxy to add black holes and nebulae. The update will go live within the next day or so.

      Amazing! These guys are doing things in just a couple of years that took games like Star Citizen 10 or more years to accomplish! Super impressed!!!!

    Wonderful it's in alpha tech demo and every day I pass by to take a look at the magellan super job vividly that the development continues super thank you

    I thought for a second there "that's a nice pre-rendered background, now where is the nebula?" - suffice to say, it looks brilliant!

    Now it just hit me, how common are nebulas around the galaxy?

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are various different types, from open clusters to planetary nebulae. They are numerous, but in the game we'll be focusing on Open Clusters first. These are the star forming regions that are found mostly around the edge of the galactic arms.

      @@DanGovier Dan I am a big fan of the show How the Universe Works, now I am not saying that I can name every part of the universe but I do love the series. Wish they would do Season 11. But I am rather interested in how often a ship such as yours will run across nebulae AND can it be used to harvest gases such as hydrogen for power.

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikethompson2650 If you were to fly around the edge of the spiral arms you'll likely encounter a lot of nebulae, because that's where the density of stellar mass is at its highest. The true density of a nebula though is less than the best vacuums we can achieve on earth, so the ship will harvest its fuel from the upper cloud layers of gas giants.

    Will the nebula become dimmer when you enter it? A lot of space games treat them like clouds which, while making for a beautiful visual, isn’t how I think they would appear at these distances in reality.

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, there's a minimum distance fade applied to the nebula, so as you approach it does fade. This also stops the nebula from penetrating the insides of the ship.

    I love the star trek ship!! This game will only be a flight simulation without content or will there be combat, missions or even possible landings on Teluric planets in the future?
    The only little criticism that I could make is that the stars and the gas cloud are not huge enough, but I suppose that's easier said than developed lol

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This would be a very long answer :D The easiest thing to do is play the demo, which is on Steam ( or watch other videos).
      The ship is in it's concept stages and will change a lot over the coming months.
      We have a 7-deck, 200-roomed ship, playing as helm and flying is just one part of the game. There will be 200 NPC's doing their daily jobs, and you'll take the place of one of those jobs. We'll have planetary landings via a shuttle.
      As you'll see in the demo, the stars are made with real astrophysics, so they vary in size, some are absolutely huge. Same as with the nebulae :D

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A bit further down the line some nebulae will have a physical affect on your ship. For example, being highly corrosive in a way that requires you to augment your hull plating with a certain mineral. That will allow us to place more interesting things in locations that require a bit of preparation to reach in on piece. Or, have certain alien creatures that only exist within nebulae.

    This...this is what a proper "Star Trek" should be. Would love to playtest this. Just curious, you're planning for NPCs for running ship operations/functions, correct?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a playtest open at the moment on Steam :) It'll be closing in a week. store.steampowered.com/app/1332100/Starship_Simulator
      Along with the player (or multiple on multiplayer), yes

  • @SomeKindaSpy
    @SomeKindaSpy ปีที่แล้ว

    My god... It's beautiful. I assume the screens of the ship have some kind of color-corrected x-ray spectrum so that we can even see the nebula that clearly?

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier ปีที่แล้ว

      We try to make everything in the game as scientifically accurate as possible, but some things are more sci-fi for the sake of gameplay. The nebulae are definitely leaning more towards sci-fi than science, but lore-wise I like your suggestion of clever windows ;)

    Not exactly a true representation of how nebulas look close up.
