I can't speak for everyone but I really enjoy hearing foreign people try and pronounce Dutch words so by all means, go ahead!
Also if you want to come to the Netherlands, winter period is the time! Because close to new years eve, the oliebol carts are everywhere!

The Chocolonely bar is not irregular just to be abstract, there's actually a meaning behind it! It's made with 100% fair trade cocoa and the company actually tries to donate money to people affected by the cocoa trade that don't get paid. The design is irregular because in reality not always everybody gets an equal piece.

True not only that I got the people one day on school and also explaned to me for great leasson ever.
they also told me Many Chocolate Factory doenst put Far pieced in each packet like in some bar it ay 10 while tou only get 9 /8 they let you pay more for less and I really respect the people of this action for them I whould only buy those bar alone!
Not forget they give much in one bar self if there uneven pieces it smart way to do like mabey someone doenst like dark chocolate much they can have a little piece. You chould see it in that why they told use.
But the true meaning was wat you said I totally agree with there action and really respect that

True! I saw a talk by the company's Ynzo van Zanten and it was super interesting. Obviously the best part was when we all got to take a bar home :) You never really think about stuff like that, and I had eaten Tony Chocolonely before but never really looked at the packaging.

    • @verloser

thats why i tend to buy fair trade coco instead of slaaf choco. it just tastes much better when given fair price for the farmers

The bottom left part (except the most bottom left piece) is actually in the shape of the African countries the world gets 60% of its cocoa beans from: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, and Cameroon. And yes, their central message is that until everyone gets a fair share, Tony's chocolate bars will remain unequally shaped as well :)
Here's a very short video from Tony Chocolonely themselves where they show this

Agreed about the not doing justice. The real thing is only good when the spoon can stand in it without falling. As a Brabander we have two varieties; we make pea-soup (erwtensoep) on day 1 but we make way too much of it. The leftover is used the next day and then it is called "snert". All the ingredients have had extra time to get together and blend to produce the real flavour and textures of 'snert'.
And it must have been made with stock from pigs feet. There should be flesh and fat from said feet still in there.

That pea soup isn't thick at all. With the real stuff, a spoon should be able to keep standing upright. You should almost be able to eat it with fork and knife :-)
About the peanut butter, try it with some chocolate sprinkles on top! And for the apple stroop, put it on bread with some (Dutch) cheese. Weird but great....

7:57 For our Japanese friends, rinse appelstroop is an apple syrup. Rins means slightly sour.
I'm Dutch, and I can tell you the only times I see this word rinse, is on the jars with apple syrup. Maybe in the south, or in Belgian Dutch, they use the word rins. But honestly, to me it sounds like one of those words in history books. Who in the Netherlands would say it a couple of times a year? I've got the impression rins is dying out, but those apple farmers still like it.
That e is just a Dutch suffix: something is rins, so it's the rinse thing.

i almost spat out my licorice laughing at your brave attempts to pronounce ontbijtkoek. the instant pea soup may seem nice, but only until you taste the real stuff - incomparable!
the spreads for bread and the sprinkles are better if you put a thin layer of butter or margarine first, it brings out the flavour better. dutch people eat bread slices like that often as breakfast and as lunch so we like a lot of toppings to choose from: cheese, thinly sliced meats, jams, those sweet ones you tried, but also what we call "bread salads" (it's more like a mayonnaise-based spread - almost no vegetables involved, lol). that would be things like egg salad, tuna salad, chicken-curry salad, celery root salad, salmon salad and increasingly, hummus.
