  • Like any other industry music industry is undergoing (rather undergone) a massive transformation. The availability of free music on streaming platforms has increased the reach and even an ordinary singer from remotest place can release and publish her/his music.
However, do musicians make enough money? How many musicians can make comfortable living out of music? How many of you pay for listening to music? How much does is cost for an independent artist to make and release a song? If you are curious, then please listen to this 5-minute talk. And, do share your thoughts and comments in the comments box. It will be a learning experience for me, for other fellow musicians, and for the music lovers too.
    Thank you for watching!

I think I told you that the only thing I miss about today’s digital streaming consumption of music is the anticipation of a new album of your favourite artist coming out and the joy when you finally bought the tape or cd. So artists and record labels would actually make money out of actual physical sales of their music which was so huge…. I wish a lot of times that I should have been active in that era only to experience this phenomenon. Nowadays due to streaming, the consumer gets their music either free or for a real peanuts subscription fee while the cost of making the music has increased manifold. So maybe even that’s the reason why music is is taken so much for granted these days and is used by consumers even in remixes, reels, what have you. This is what I feel about the scenario today.
