The previous song on the album “Time” follows life thru to the realisation of death. “The Great Gig in The Sky”, is the last moments of life… the emotional stages of a conscious death.

Originally, The Great Gig in the Sky was an innocent track that was supposed to be used to fill the void ending the side A. In the first demos, a passage from the Bible was read over the piano instrumental, then this was communications from NASA astronauts on mission. With the end result unsatisfying the band members, Alan Parsons (sound engineer) enlisted the help of Clare Torry, a studio singer. They ask her to provide them with a vocal improvisation with the only indication of thinking about death and the fear it inspires.

I have to agree with you, Pink Floyd take you into the dimension that we can't see. It's all about frequency and the sounds of the chords they play. No music today comes close. Explore the frequency of music and you'll be forever happy

In essence, the Dark Side of the Moon album deals with death. "The Great Gig in the Sky," in particular, and in the different verses, touches on each stage of grief and how we as free willed human beings deal with Death.
An event that all of humanity is destined to experience at one point in time or another be it in the realization of our own impending doom or the death of a loved one. Depending on each individual's level of compassion and acceptance of death, persistent, traumatic grief can cause us to cycle (sometimes quickly) through the 5 stages of grief:
    denial,
    anger,
    bargaining,
    depression,
    acceptance.
These stages are our attempts to process change brought along by the loss of a loved one or the acceptance of ones own mortality and to protect ourselves while we adapt to our new reality.
Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky is about such a journey. The opening lyrics start with denial, and the closing lyrics end with acceptance.
Ps: I loved your reaction to this song.

When Richard Wright, the keyboardist, died in 2008, it was this song that was sung at his funeral by Durga Mc Broom, on of theBackgroundsinger of thePinkFloydWorld Tour. This was his express wish during his lifetime. The rumor persists that none other than Jon Lord accompanied on the piano.

The 70s were a time of AOR (Album Oriented Rock) Albums were produced to listen to the entire album in one sitting. Pink Floyd's songs mix one track into the next track. When you get the chance, I suggest listening to the entire album in order. It is an experience.

May I suggest you give your opinion in your native language then translate it to English as subtitles for us. But let us hear your reviews in English also because that truly shows your feelings 10 stars. You are obviously part Floydian.

Is this song about death or dying?…. No. I met David Gilmour back stage at a concert in California 1984. I asked him about the meaning - reason for “Great Gig In The Sky”…. David’s answer was something like…. .I was asked if Pink Floyd would ever do a song about Religion like some others have… so I said, You are referring to the great gig in the sky they call “God“. What words could be used to describe all the pain and suffering caused by religious beliefs. All the crying and wailing from mothers who lost their husbands or sons in a war fought over religious differences. The only vocals should be just the sound of a mothers crying with pain and suffering. That’s the true intentions of the song. We didn’t want to make that public so as to avoid any religious boycott like what happened to the Beatles after Lennon made his comment about Jesus. We could not tell the singer so as to avoid her making any comments that would end up in the media. The speaking heard at the beginning was recorded at Apple records prior to the recording of the song. Roger Waters placed a recorder at the door asking anyone who walked by to answer some questions into the microphone. The janitor stopped and recorded his answer to the question….”Are You Afraid Of Dying”?. It was decided to add the recording to the start of “Great Gig In The Sky”. It leads people to believe the song is about dying, but that is actually not the case. The Great Gig In The Sky…is GOD … The incredible vocals from Clare Torry happened when she did not know what they wanted. David Gilmour told her to pretend her voice is a Saxophone like on other songs on the album, no words, just tones. Results are legendary.

The spoken words (and the whole album) were recorded at Abbey Road Studios not Apple records.

Actually, whatever Gilmour and the band thought the song was GOING to be about, what it turned out to really be about was what Claire Torrey made it about.
