Can't wait for your xf16-50 lens review. I own one and absolutely love it, even though it has some pretty bad flaring issues-which, strangely enough, I also find endearing
Fujifilm makes such wonderful lenses. I have a few collecting dust waiting on a camera that I want like X-e5 with X-e3 controls and the X-e4 tilt screen.
Everyone always mentions video when discussing the flip out screen, but as a landscape and architecture photographer, I'll never by another body without a flip out screen. One with a secondary hinge for vertical shooting might be enough to get a purchase from me, but a flip out screen is much better for awkward angles when balanced on a rock in a lake or river, or when shooting straight up at ceilings, spiral staircases, etc.
Hey Chris, great video as always! You are the first reviewer i found talking about the dissapointment of the EVF! Finally! For me, to be honest, it is a MAJOR dissapointment. i couldnt believe my eyes when i saw that fuji really uses the same outdated EVF panel like in the T30II years ago… I waited for years now to finally upgrade to the „new t30“ - the small and bit low res EVF was one of the reasons i sold my T30II and switched to the T4. And now it‘s the same again - for THAT price point. r u serious fuji? 3 years later, almost DOUBLE the price - sorry, this is intolerable. Even the „old“ and also small X100V has the 3.69 Panel and the same price. as a fuji fan for many years now, i feel like i'm being taken for a ride as a customer. the only thing fuji is perfect in at the moment: riding the hype and raising the prices. very sad… dealbreaker for me, i simply can’t understand that decision :-( the evf is like the „heart“ of a camera, an essential part that is used so much - and so important for the whole shooting experience. fuji, you made a big fan very dissapointed! again: for THAT price compared to the T30II…. waited so long for nothing and now i have to buy a x-t5 or say goodbye to fuji.
@@GungKrisna12thats simply not true 😐 is the x100v big? also a very small body that fits the bigger and 3.69 high res panel easily. even with a hybrid VF and not having the „hump“ of the t-bodys offering even more space. the only reason is cost cutting by fuji in my opinion… they have tons of these panels from the t30ii and x-s20 in stock.
I would never buy a non-weather sealed camera over $1000 anyway, had the X-T5 since launch now and it's been great. Funny how much worse X-T50 is in rolling shutter and AF because they clocked down the processor due to the tiny battery and worse thermal dissipation and they're still trying to get almost the same money for it as the X-T5
@@JackBurton-qp4hc …just because sony does it, doesn't make it better 😭 apart from that, the 6700 EVF is at least bigger than that of the x-t50 regarding magnification. long story short: its simply dissapointing that 5 years (!) after the release of the x-t30 fuji has done NOTHING about the EVF. apart from almost doubling the price. sorry, thats my opinion 😕
Good review, Christopher, thanks for demonstrating the limitations as well as the capabilities of this camera. I was very interested in how it would fare.
It's the size - performance that makes this camera special. Canon's R7 is almost as big and heavy as my FF gear, and Canon does not support its APSC line well with good lenses. We fuss about cameras too much, the new Fuji XF 16-50 is the real advantage over other systems.
Bought this, love the 40mp sensor & the camera small size. Don't' use the simulation dial just set it to 'c' and forget about it, shame as it's a redundant dial. Pity no weather sealing & better EVF would have made it a near perfect travel camera for photography but then the argument is, if you want better EVR & weather resistance you get the XT5 aleit a bigger body. I just love what they packed into this small phone centric camera... If you are primarily interested in photography it's a great camera, a tad overpriced IMO
In regards to the sharpening on JPEGs, Fuji for some reason has their settings go from -4 to +4 so if you want no jpeg sharpening set it to -4. You said yours was set to 0 which would actually be quite a bit of sharpening
The X-T50 has been a huge disappointment for me. I kept it for a week and sold it again. In high contrast scene JPGs, it leaves a white rim around the subject. At the zoo, I got several out of focus photos of the animals. Overall, I didn't get the feeling, and at this price, I didn't feel like I had to put up with it. I still prefer my much cheaper X-T30 II.
@@GungKrisna12xh2s is a sport cam , its literally in the marketing material and press release. So how the hell does a nikon Zf beats it in sports when it isnt even one. Hell not even that, the a5100 obliterates it still
On balance, it seems like the 40 megapixel sensor was a bit of a mistake. For 90% of users, it's complete overkill, and softness setting in at 3200 ISO is sad. Doesn't seem worth it. They should have kept the old sensor and spent more time improving their autofocus, IBIS and maintaining the build quality of the old cameras in my opinion. But that wouldn't make the marketing as exciting prior to release I'm assuming. Big numbers look better in ads. It hurts, but I feel like Fuji have started down a bad path since the new leadership took over. The cameras are more expensive, the build quality is not as good as it used to be, and they're still far behind competitors in terms of autofocus - even managing to make it worse with every firmware update. Clearly the software quality control is lacking. All in all, paying $1400 for a body with a tiny battery, no weather sealing, and, at times, catastrophic autofocus, is just not on. If it cost 1000 like the X-T20/30, then we can talk.
even I heard somewhere that Fujifilm is aiming at luxury camera market, where people no longer care about specs, they only want something that can take photos while being a conversation starter
@suba7320 Are you new to digital photography? Every time there is an increase in mpix people like you say something like, "For 90% of users, it's complete overkill" and have been doing since it went from 6/8 to 10 and possibly earlier than that! Yet you are happy with 24/26 when others were saying that was not necessary over 12/18.
The 40MP sensor works well in the X-T5 and X-H2 but you can see from the AF performance and rolling shutter of this thing this shouldn't have been copy/pasted into cameras with clocked-down processors
I find the 40MP sensor to be really useful for cropping. This is a small camera that pairs very nicely with small prime lenses. I can put on a prime lens, and then take advantage of the "digital tele-conv." mode to zoom into 1.4x crop and still get a totally usable 20MP image. Or even the 2.0x crop mode can deliver usable 10MP images in a pinch.
@@stevenqirkle That is pretty useful, but I think it would have been better if they had kept the old sensor and added the ibis plus some weather sealing instead. That would have been a home run camera. A camera like that with one of the f2 primes sounds amazing. A true, pocketable mini-XT5. A pocket rocket. But I guess they would be worried about it eating into X-T5 sales if they did that
This a great edc and starter camera. If you’re buying this with hopes of getting great results at higher ISOs you’re looking at the wrong product. I also find this to be a very comparable alternative to the x100vi.
For being so close to the price of the xt5, there's an absurd amount of compromise with this camera. Body only at retails just shy of 1900 Canadian dollars, now if they had priced it at 1400 Canadian dollars this would be a no-brainer for many. Considering the xt5 body only is $2,300, that $400 gets you so very much more I can't see many people wanting the xt50...
The list of negatives Christopher points out is in stark contrast with his overall favorable review. I would stick to my XT3 - large viewfinder, enough sensor resolution, same or better noise, 4k video is really enough. I really don't see the benefits after two generations.
X-T5 is the logical 'upgrade' from the X-T3. The X-Txx cameras are a notch below the X-Tx series with no weather sealing and only one card slot - which the X-T3 does have. The main thing about the X-Txx cameras is that they are tiny and have a built-in flash.
Hi Chris.....i have an XT10 that i bought new around 8yrs ago ....was thinking of upgrading to XT50.... given the price would you think the upgrade is worth it? While the Auto focus and IBIS would be a nice upgrade do you think the picture quality would be that much different from what i already have? Its kind of hard to tell from U Tube photos...
Hey, sorry if it's a silly question but I'm not super experienced with this kind of thing. As far as the video test, is that just what it looks like with a 16mm lens? How does it look without it? Are all videos from this camera that unstable? I can't seem to find any raw footage with this camera.
I just notice that it seems they came back to a rugged finish ( like the good old ones ! 💪 ) instead of the sleek finish seen on the XT5 . I wish they also come back to that durable finish on the XT & XH line.
Most rumor or questions on internet showing a lot of customers waiting for XE-5 and Xpro3. Many TH-camrs even make video asking Fuji for these 2 models. But Fuji just launched XT-50 and XS-20 instead in this year.
I used to have an X-T20. Its a beautiful camera but several things hampered my usage. First and foremost, that handgrip was a pain, even on its xf18-55mm lens. Next problem is that tiny evf with a very uncomfortable "eyecup". Next, a lack of ibis is a big disadvantage for a person with really shaky hands like me. Then, there are the dreaded wormy artifacts on Lightroom made it a torture to edit. Switching over to the Nikon D5500 got rid of almost all the problems. I recently got into M4/3 and i dont think i can ever go back to Fujifilm.
The a6700 is better in every aspect in except color science and looks. If you're fine with Sony's pragmatic and somewhat soulless approach to camera design, it's the better camera by far. Sony will make your life easier, but they won't really inspire you to go out and take photographs. That is the dilemma.
I have to wonder why anybody looking at the A6700 would also look at a Fuji. If the A6700 does what you want it to, then you are clearly not interested in the Unique Selling Points of a Fuji in the first place. It just puzzles me, they are completely different cameras for completely difference types of user. I am left wondering if people actually know why they are buying a particular camera...
hehe... 12800 an act of desperation :D - but i guess our preferences are different. I shot at maximum iso often never had anyone say anything about noise. In real life it is to be expected that low light gives grain or noise. no one will look at an image and sa, thats a bad image because its noisy!
I sold all of my Sony gears and was ready to buy my xt5. I have been looking up at all these other videos about their tracks. It help me back at the moment. Now I do still mostly, but still at a rate of 50% hit rate is pretty bad. I love the Fuji colors, but if my picture is not in focus, the color is not going to help. I really wish for you would spend some time and fix the AF. I think I just slapped myself on the face with selling all of my Sony gears, I might have to go back to sony. My only issue is it's got a horrible evf and LCD screen. I don't know about this one Chris, I don't know about recommending a camera that has only about 50% hit rates
Have you tried an X-T5? If you mostly shoot stills it should not really effect you anyway. The AF is not bad tbh, sure if you shoot birds or sports you might be better of with Sony but it got some great results with the AF.
It's strange how much good will Fuji still gets from camera community. Literally as you're saying, 'Offering high quality and fast subject detection' the auto focus box is stuck on a tree and on your shoulder in a not very challenging scenario. OK then. Fuji will never fix it as long as big reviewers pretend auto focus is fine. Please do your job and slam them when they are a decade behind the competition while charging the same price.
@@GungKrisna12 that's fine, but that's not a good reason for the system to be that far behind other brands. could you imagine Fujifilm cameras with autofocus on par with Sony and Canon? it would be heaven. why would you buy any other camera.

Complain about it until they overhaul the system, that's the only way it's going to get better
That is noticeably bad video noise. I don’t recall too many cameras you have tested that were that bad for noise. The stab and rolling shutter. Yikes! I have a lot of experience with all brands and test a lot of bodies. I need to test the video noise levels better. This was motivating for me.
I had high expectations for the X-T50, but the price, it’s inflated body design, bigger size/weight and the film sim dial disaster left me absolutely disappointed.
Hello Chris, A lot of f/0.95 lenses have came out since your last comparison, I would love to know more about what is the current sharpest options out there.
I think in Fuji's lineup, the X-T50 and its 40MP sensor is aimed primarily at still photographers, while the X-S20 is a more hybrid-focused camera with its 26MP sensor and flippy screen. So while I think it's helpful to review the X-T50's video capabilities and point out its shortcomings, it probably would have been good to mention the X-S20 as a possible alternative for people who are looking for a more capable video camera from Fuji in this price range?
@@opalyankaBG Sure I can understand how a stills shooter might be drawn to the X-S20 over the X-T50. My point was more the opposite - that anyone who plans to shoot video regularly would be better served by the X-S20. So knocking the X-T50 for its mediocre video performance kind of misses the point of the camera a bit IMO.
Getting rid of the ISO DIAL while replacing it with totally incomplete simulation dial is a very bad move.. It would be great if those film sims were customisable but instead, we only get 3 custom slots. Fujifilm community has a tremedous library of custom recipes and thats the REAL selling point of the film simulations.. Not being able to customize them selectively is a real bummer fo me. Imagine only using 3 or 2 simulations constantly. Those could be really kept under quick menu button thus saving the wheel for more important stuff...
Agreed. But the x-t00 range gave never had a dedicated iso dial. I had an x-t20 for several years and loved it but have moved on to an x-t2, purely because it has the dedicated iso dial on the top plate plus the focus joystick (to go with the d-pad). These are key features in my opinion. The x-t2 isn't much bigger or heavier either. At current secondhand prices it's a no brainer. The move on the x-t30 onwards to replace the d-pad with the joystick I would argue to very stupid move as the joystick is not as easy to use as the d-pad and will probably break sooner from such use. Its just amazing how expensive the x-t50 is. I mean I understand it for the features ibis and 40mp), but as Chris says in the video, it's now worth considering other options. Also you'll need a new computer to store the huge photos and probably half you're existing fuji lenses won't be able to cope with the 40mp. These are probably two if the most important thing to consider with this or the x-t5, but aren't always mentioned in reviews.
@wysokieiso The fact that 42 people have thumbed up a comment that started with, "Getting rid of the ISO DIAL" merely demonstrates how little people know about Fuji cameras.
Chris, thanks for this review. I do wonder if Fuji will have a change of heart and go back to a 24/26 mp sensor with better low light performance, at least on a few cameras. I’m using a Nikon Z50 for my light carry camera. If we could just get some more lens options for Nikon apsc cameras, i’d stop checking out these other brands’ options. ;-)
The lower resolution sensors do not have better low light performance. You need to compare images at the same dimensions. Downsize the 40mpix image to 26mpix first.
IMO the current price of the XT50 is too expensive and too bloated to be a 2nd tier camera, and Fuji needs to treat its customers right. It seems to be the accountant and marketing got too much involvement in current line ups. Firstly, the price of XT50 is only about 20% less than the XT5, and including the newer kit lens is probably about 15% less! Any sane person like myself will choose the XT5 for its much more refined shutter, buttons and dials; WR; dual card; bigger and more solid body; better flip screen and so on. They should’ve left out the IBIS, kept the weight under 400g and old kit lens, and price it under US$1000 (or around $1200 with the old kit lens) The XM5 is in the right direction though. The other thing about auto focus is, when Sony was the only company with awesome AF, I can live with Fuji’s shortcomings. But when other manufacturers caught up and Fuji hasn’t? That’s a no no. With many things in life, loyalty only goes so far, and if the company doesn’t treat their customers right, they will leave! I don’t want Fuji to go down like the M34 cameras, so stop letting the accountants and marketing get in the way of quality products. And about the sensor shortages? I’m pretty sure it’s a marketing thing, because when no other manufacturer faces this problem in late 2024, Fuji shouldn’t! Common Fuji! You’re better than this!
I once had an X-T20. It was a good camera for the money. The X-T50 doesn't seem like a good option today for the price they're asking for it. Strange matrix, still poor autofocus compared to competitors. Well, the price... Fuji knows that they are not Leica? And they never will.
I once bought a XT20 for 550€ and returned it because I wasn't convinced. In hindsight a stupid decision since they sell for more used now. Also shows how much of an increase the new RRP/MSRP is.
I can’t lie only thing I wish is that it was full frame it’s a shame cause I really like all of it including all the film simulation stuff but sadly I want to collect a Nikon d850 before they stop manufacturing it then Ill go buy the fun toys haha
Do you think most fujifilm cameras are meant for anyone who zone focuses (or manual focuses) instead of using their AF? Especially due to the uproars in the AF department?
@@JJARCHIE Leica users get along fine with high cost and poor (or no) AF. Fuji is about colour and retro styling, that is their thing. You want excellent AF with poor jpeg output and boring ergonomics, then get a Sony.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc yeah but xt5 being launched with worse build than xt3's are a step down that i dont think even leica would pull. nikon zf proved retro and colours can go hand in hand with 4k60 and reliable af. lumix s9 ( as bad as it may be ) proved digital cameras can be small and quite feature packed. fuji is playing a game they can lose at any moment
The X-T50 processor is downclocked because of the tiny battery and lack of thermal dissipation. Both rolling shutter and AF is worse than X-T5 even though the sensor is the same.
It depends but you can adjust sharpness and other parameters. People who shoot jpg often, normally set sharpness to -2. I don't because I can get those "film simulations" later on my RAWs.
I've been loving the double-digit X-T series for its compactness and excellent price to performance ratio (nearly matching the capabilities of single-digit X-T bodies). However, the huge price increase that came with the X-T50 is such a turn off. I understand its photo and video capabilities are an almost exact match of the X-T5 but if I'm going to pay this money for a new camera I'd rather spend €200 more and get a discounted X-T5 that's fully featured, and just live with the bigger weight and size. Or get a X-S20 that has more manageable 26 mp images - I don't really mind the PASM dials and articulating screen. P.S. the film sim dial is terrible, it doesn't let you set customized recipes and is basically useless for raw shooters.
"it doesn't let you set customized recipes" Just to clarify for the reader. The X-T50, like others, still have custom slots for recipes. These can be used by turning the dial to C.
It is not an exact match of the X-T5, not even close. Because of the small battery and lack of thermal dissipation, the X-T50s processor is severely underclocked, which manifests into slower burst rate, MUCH worse rolling shutter and worse AF.
@@Vinterloft No idea what you're talking about. X-T5 and X-T50 have the same 20fps max burst rate in electronic shutter mode. The X-T5 is faster when shooting with mechanical shutter, but that's a limitation of the shutter and not the processor. As for autofocs and rolling shutter, they are said to be equivalent in every review I've seen - which is to say: poor. For someone who places a high value on autofocus performance or rolling shutter, then I would not be looking at either the X-T5 or X-T50, and instead would be looking at the a6700. Or the X-H2S if you prefer Fuji.
It has the same sensor as X-T5 but worse rolling shutter and AF due to underclocked processor, IMO nobody should buy this when the weather-sealed, dual-SD slot, three times bigger battery, twice as good EVF X-T5 is only a little bit more.
No no. I don't get why they killed the x-e4 and x-pro3 with no replacement ready and now they do this to the only available decent priced model. I will stay on my x-t30ii and will test some other cameras.
This camera is not the best tool for video and I don’t think Fuji designed this camera aiming videography or vlogging users. XS20 is a much better option for those purposes. Unless one needs the retro style body, the non-fully articulated back screen, and a 40MP slow reading sensor, I would say XS20 makes more sense to most people.
I don’t really get Fujifilm. I have a x100v for vacations and it’s great. But paying almost what a Canon R7 cost to get a camera where pretty much everything is worse from a technical point, just to get som filters? Cause that’s what the “simulations”, are.
The X-Tx0 series has always been for people who don't know what they're doing. X-T30 and 30II had no IBIS which is mandatory at its price point. X-T50s underclocked processor because of tiny battery and lack of thermal dissipation can't keep up with the 40MP sensor. The only good X-Tx0 series ever was the X-T20 as it was appropriately priced for what it did, and could output 10bit video over HDMI without any major drawbacks.
The R7 is a significantly bigger and heavier camera body than the X-T50. It's also got traditional DSLR styling compared to the X-T50's retro styling. Size and looks may not be important to you, or you may even prefer the size and handling of the R7, but I think the X-T50 has more popular appeal than the R7. I certainly prefer the X-T50's body to the R7. The other issue with Canon is that at the moment the APS-C lens lineup for RF mount is pretty lacking. Your choices are basically to buy big, heavy, and expensive full frame lenses from Canon. Or smaller, cheaper APS-C lenses from Canon with kit lens quality. I believe there is only one third party APS-C lens for Canon RF available right now - the Sigma 18-55mm f2.8 - which to be fair is an excellent lens (that is also available for Fuji X mount). This should improve in the future - but for the moment Fuji has the much better lineup of APS-C lenses.
I get 700 ish per battery, boost mode, video, stills, occasional playback. Not sure why most reviews says 300-400 (or simply copy the official rating)... I do wonder if most reviewers max out the battery or if I have a magic touch with Fujifilm batteries 😅
@@weiyang6417 Yawn The ZF is a video camera. Like an iPhone. ha A lot of people want a stills-first camera instead that works like a _film_ camera with great results SOOC. I feel like this isn't Fuji's best generation. Going to a high resolution sensor was possibly a mistake. They should have rather gone for a better optimised 24mp sensor IMO - since almost no one needs that high resolution and it forces so many compromises. I suspect the high price is indicative of how fashionable Fujis are among us amateurs now. They can't make the pro level cameras too expensive or that market won't consider them. But they can't make lower tier cameras fast enough at the moment so why not push the price as far as they can?
I want 40mpix for the cropping potential, so it isn't mistake. What makes you believe that, "almost no one needs that high resolution"? The 40mpix has been in use for some time in other models, so clearly many people do want it!
@@JackBurton-qp4hc How do you know they want it if it's all that's on offer? You want a new Fuji camera with all the new features, that's what you get. There's plenty of reasonable cropping ability in a 24mp image - especially given how few people ever make prints. Having an interchangeable lens camera means that digital zooming is far less necessary than on a fixed lens camera. I think having a low noise, fast readout sensor is far more valuable to many more people than the ability to crop out some small section of an image. The high resolution only emphasises the downsides of using an apsc camera unnecessarily - as we can see from these results.
@@thecaveofthedead "How do you know they want it if it's all that's on offer?" Because people bought the X-H2 over the X-H2s. People are buying the X-T50 over the X-T30II. So yes they have chosen 40mpix. "Having an interchangeable lens camera means that digital zooming is far less necessary than on a fixed lens camera." If you want large lenses, many like I do not, cropping gives me that choice. The 40mpix is no more noisy that 26mpix at the same dimensions. Again I want the choice of high resolution with the options to resize the dimensions. Try taking a 26mpix and upsize it to the dimension of a 40mpix, you'll soon see how noisy it is! You can not add detail to a lower resolution sensor. You only believe it a "mistake" because it is not what YOU wanted.
Of course I haven't had one in my hand and used it but it comes off as a capable, expensive snapshot/toy camera. How difficult is it to use the menus for the simulations and not need a dial on top? I would rather have the ISO dial. The built in flash is nice but can't imagine it's strong. A step back for Fuji.
The X-Txx line has never had an ISO dial and has always had a flash. So not a, "step back for Fuji". You clearly don't know Fujifilm models. It isn't a toy camera, it is a smaller and lighter, X-T5, for those that prefer the compromise of size/weight vs., more features of the X-T5. Move the FS to C and use the menus as any other model.
Though the Fuji X-T50 not is as compact as the SONY A6700, the Fuji X-T50 is more compact then the X-T5 and the X-H2 which both are too big for being APSC cameras. The battery in the X-T50 is too small. Now when Fuji have 3 cameras with SONY´s 40 megapixels sensor, I wonder why we do not see a new SONY APSC Camera with that sensor !? Have SONY made a contract with Fuji to not use the sensor in SONY´s own Cameras !? A SONY "A7000" with 40 megapixel, 5.8+ M EVF and better IBIS will be very nice !
I would like an ISO dial or the drive dial, not that rubbish simulation dial, this is a terrible commercial move Fujifilm continues to change and distort too much the buttons on their machines and it's terrible. it's not the first time that Fujifilm has made choices without talking to us users, I would really like to know which companies or experts it turns to when deciding on the design of a camera
"this is a terrible commercial move" Which proves that you are not commercially aware. Film Simulations are a Unique Selling Point for Fujifilm. They want to attract new users to the system and you don't hide your USP in a menu, you do that by making it visible. That FS dial is going to sell WAY more X-T50s than a drive dial would have. More camera sales = more profitability = more investment. You do want Fujifilm to be successful in this ever decreasing camera market, yes? If Fujifilm cameras are not unique, then why would people buy them over any other brand?
Gorgeous looking camera, but way too expensive. Replacing the ISO dial with a film sim dial is a baffling move. I also lament the absence of a D-pad. Disappointing….
Don't worry, we'll get even more megapixels for crop sensors in a few years. Anyway, this sensor's image quality is pretty good but it needs more processing power and faster readout speeds.

Yeah yeah, continue being the Fuji apologist... Even in your sample footage the AF tracking was DREADFULLY bad, just like so many other legitimate reviewers have begun pointing out, and yet you claim it's decent. This performance isn't even in the same ORBIT as those form Nikon, Canon, Sony, hell even Panasonic now!
Calm down, he is not wrong. The AF is usable, but surely not better than the big three's AF. If you depend on AF to earn money, yeah you are unlikely to go to Fuji for it.

This is not the first time I've caught Chris spouting nonsense, and I will call him, and anyone else doing so, out on it. BTW, the AF for video is complete UNUSABLE, full stop. ALL the AF-C tracking modes in both stills and video cannot be reliably used anymore since Fuji introduced their broken AI prediction algorithms.
As I said, it's decent - which it is - but as I also said, very clearly, it's not as sticky and reliable as other manufacturers. I spelled that out quite clearly...
@@christopherfrost Which is you being the apologist, because the focus system isn't just "quite as sticky" or decent, it's plain broken; in your own samples the focus drifted onto other subjects entirely and back focused regularly, this is total failure that not even Panasonic's old CDAF systems did.

Sony has already solved this problem. Look at the screen in the Sony A7r V.

Even the „old“
and also small X100V has the 3.69 Panel and the same price. as a fuji fan for many years now, i feel like i'm being taken for a ride as a customer. the only thing fuji is perfect in at the moment: riding the hype and raising the prices. very sad… dealbreaker for me, i simply can’t understand that decision :-( the evf is like the „heart“ of a camera, an essential part that is used so much - and so important for the whole shooting experience. fuji, you made a big fan very dissapointed! again: for THAT price compared to the T30II…. waited so long for nothing and now i have to buy a x-t5 or say goodbye to fuji.
Maybe bigger EVF will mean bigger camera
They just wanted to keep the camera small
@@GungKrisna12thats simply not true 😐 is the x100v big? also a very small body that fits the bigger and 3.69 high res panel easily. even with a hybrid VF and not having the „hump“ of the t-bodys offering even more space. the only reason is cost cutting by fuji in my opinion… they have tons of these panels from the t30ii and x-s20 in stock.

Sony do the same cost cutting with the A6700, it is simply that class of camera.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc …just because sony does it, doesn't make it better 😭 apart from that, the 6700 EVF is at least bigger than that of the x-t50 regarding magnification.
long story short: its simply dissapointing that 5 years (!) after the release of the x-t30 fuji has done NOTHING about the
EVF. apart from almost doubling the price. sorry, thats my opinion 😕

The processor in the X-T50 is clocked down for thermals and battery life. And it only has one.
Size and price are my main complains. I don't mind the simulation dial, and the other features sound very good.
@suba7320
Are you new to digital photography?
I'm curious about this camera. If I don't want to shoot the full 40MP, is it possible to take an image with a lower megapixel count like 15-25mp?
Imo a non starter at the suggested retail price.
Exactly. Better spend €200 more and get the X-T5 despite the larger size.

On Fuji cameras, you have to set the sharpness to -4 (minus four) to completely disable the sharpening on jpegs.
I think in Fuji's lineup, the X-T50 and its 40MP sensor is aimed primarily at still photographers, while the X-S20 is a more hybrid-focused camera with its 26MP sensor and flippy screen.
These are probably two if the most important thing to consider with this or the x-t5, but aren't always mentioned in reviews.
exactly my opinion… a „film sim“ dial would be a real killer, this is senseless and a missed chance. hope a FW update will change it in the future.
Except of course that they didn’t get rid of the ISO dial - the X-Tn0 cameras never had one - they had a useless drive mode dial instead

I love my X-T50.

"it doesn't let you set customized recipes"
Just to clarify for the reader.
The Canon R7 is boring. I have Sony, my Fuji makes me want to go out and shoot. It is the same reason Leica exists.
sharpnes setting must be at -4 to be turn off
I get 700 ish per battery, boost mode, video, stills, occasional playback.
Not sure why most reviews says 300-400 (or simply copy the official rating)... I do wonder if most reviewers max out the battery or if I have a magic touch with Fujifilm batteries 😅
Reviewers please stop ‘testing’ video AF at small apertures with scenes where a lot of what the camera sees is in focus.
The X T50 looks positively tiny in your hands...
fuji and sony doesnt count bird as animal hahahahhaaha
save a few more bucks and get a Nikon ZF😊
The ZF is pretty much twice the size. Plus, it's a video camera with that gawdawful flip-out screen instead of a proper photography first tilt-screen.
@@Mamo878 twice the value🤭
@@weiyang6417
Yawn
The ZF is a video camera. Like an iPhone. ha
A lot of people want a stills-first camera instead that works like a _film_ camera with great results SOOC. You know, that's why it's called FujiFILM.
If you're a RAW shooter any camera will do, since you spend all your time staring at screens dicking around with editing.
@Mamo878 ok fanboy, I was a Fujifilm shooter once too, no need to clinch those cheeks so tightly
ZF is quite a expensive thing
fuji wants to be Leica. For better or worse
@@thecaveofthedead
"How do you know they want it if it's all that's on offer?"
Because people bought the X-H2 over the X-H2s. People are buying the X-T50 over the X-T30II. So yes they have chosen 40mpix.
"Having an interchangeable lens camera means that digital zooming is far less necessary than on a fixed lens camera."
If you want large lenses, many like I do not, cropping gives me that choice.
Way WAAAAAY too expensive for what it is.
Then for people like you on a budget the X-T30 II remains a current model.
Just loathe that film sim dial, id have to paint over it or put black tape on or something. At least its got a tilt screen not a fold out video one
Waste of a dial! You can apply film sims later in software to raw files. Same way you apply different white balance settings.
YOU can do that, others want to shoot SOOC jpeg. It is not about what only you want, is it.
goofy ahh film simulation dial
That film simulation dial should have gone on the V100... would have made so much more sense.
But here? IDK seems a bit out of place.
"this is a terrible commercial move"
Which proves that you are not commercially aware.
Fujifilm replaced d-pad with joystick since X-E3
The X-Tx0 series never had ISO dials.
The lack of a d-pad on a small camera is fine, the joystick works better for AF point selection.
@ozuidema
The joystick is WAY better than a D-pad. It was the drive dial that was replaced, the X-Txx line never had ISO.
40mg is too much for aps-c. Fuji's glory days have been in the past since xt-5.
Don't worry, we'll get even more megapixels for crop sensors in a few years. Anyway, this sensor's image quality is pretty good but it needs more processing power and faster readout speeds.
"40mg is too much for aps-c. Fuji's glory days have been in the past since xt-5."
What a load of nonsense.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc You misunderstood. The xt-5 is included in the junk. Now we all agree.
@@cba4389 Are you paid to tell bullshit on the internet?
@@muttishelfer9122 I understand you're grumpy because your new crop sensor has been on backorder for 8 months. It's not easy for Fuji to get the parts for 2016 tech anymore.
I would like them to just like use normal goddamn control dials that I can use like an actual photographer instead of someone cosplaying one
It has direct access to aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Other than a shutter release button, as a photographer, that is all I need.
overpriced
For you. Then get the X-T30 II which remains current if you are on a budget.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc good advice 👍🏻
Its a stills camera, bad fuji, bad fuji....not a panny boy video camera. Consider nothing, especially our current "Government"
Weirdest thing I’ve read today
Thanks for that, really interesting
1500$ US without tax for shitty XT5 🤣🤣🤣 Only for Fuji drones.
Same crop sensor toy repackaged. Don’t understand why people just don’t buy a full frame camera. Great deals out there for 2nd hand.
have you used one?
@@hardbodybrain Duh!
Size and weight matters too. And when it comes to style only the Nikon Zf is in my opinion the only true competitor to the X-T line.
@@lionheart4424As an example Canon RP with 50 1.8 just as light as any Fuji. Crop sensor is nothing more than one step up from mobile phone cameras. No depth or richness to image. Everything looks flat.
That’s some fantastic hype train silliness if I’ve ever seen it. I’ve printed images from MFT, APS-C, Full Frame, and Medium Format digital, as well as medium format film. They’ve all looked wonderful. Unless I’m looking for depth of field control, any of them would do the trick fine for me. If a stop of DR and a bit more in focus is making your photos “lack richness”, you might want to stop and examine why and how you take photos. I love my Leica M10-R. I also love my OM-1. That said, I’ve firmly adhered to marry glass, date bodies. My Leica glass looks amazing on my MFT cameras as well as on my rangefinder.
Unfortunately, Fuji does not do FF sensors
Yeah yeah, continue being the Fuji apologist... Even in your sample footage the AF tracking was DREADFULLY bad, just like so many other legitimate reviewers have begun pointing out, and yet you claim it's decent. This performance isn't even in the same ORBIT as those form Nikon, Canon, Sony, hell even Panasonic now!
Calm down, he is not wrong. The AF is usable, but surely not better than the big three's AF.
If you depend on AF to earn money, yeah you are unlikely to go to Fuji for it.
@@lionheart4424 No I won't "calm down", I'm sick and tired of TH-cam "reviewers" spewing misinformation and being corporate apologists and shills, especially for Fuji, this coming from an owner of a Sony A7R III AND an Fuji X-T5, so I have a solid basis for comparison.
