    What would be amazing if they would release a MXM to PCIe adapter (riser cable) such that you could either insert a MXM GPU or a external dGPU via said cable/adapter. Best of both worlds. That would make this so appealing, I liked the solution they had with the B550.

    • @gtijason7853
      @gtijason7853 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      PCIE to MXM is cheap and readily available, too bad about the other way around. I found MXM to PCIE 8x for $110 and 16x for $180. Good thing is the brand is ADT Link and it's a docking station. Sold on Aliexpress
      MXM To PCI-e X16 Extension Cable PCI-Express Cables 50cm EGPU Adapter MXM 8x 16x Graphics Card Docking Station
      ADT-Link MXM to 16x Extension Cable
      Transfer speed: PCIe 3.0 x4 full speed, 32G/bps (Max.)

      You can get a USB-C to PCIe external case.

    • @R3endevous
      @R3endevous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gtijason7853 Yeah Exactly I saw that on too hehe, seems to be ideal for this PC. Especially since one could dremel out the back side to create a slit allowing the cable to go through easily. There was someone on the techpowerup forums who used it with their old notebook + RTX 2080, it worked, also with a RTX 3070 and now RTX 3080 Ti, XD. Seems to be running at full bandwidth too.
      techpowerup: failed-to-use-desktop-vga-with-laptop-egpu.292790
      So I'm really curious w.r.t. the compatability of this mini PC. Although getting a intel nuc (extreme) would be a better option if one was really determined to find such a small form factor solution.

    For the GPU, it is RX 6600M. They have the version that with the GPU listed on the Japanese listing a while ago. There is also an AMD version listed (but keep in mind, this was their planned roadmap for this year, so there is still a chance that they won't do it or will change it)

    As it sits, that CPU and GPU combo performs really well in software titles such as Solid Works, Wolfram Mathematica, Matlab, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Visual Studio 2022. Would make a great graphics design PC or engineering research and development PC as well as a great software development PC. Especially if you max the ram at 64GB. Would also love to see what kind of performance we could get out of Manjaro Linux on here especially with XFCE desktop UI

    I've been wishing the MXM standard would be respected for some time. The problem with it now is that it hasn't been sorted in so long it's only PCIE3 type bandwidth. If they respected it and got to PCIE4 bandwidth I'd love it. Could just see having the equivalent of an RX 6700 XT in a mini PC.

When you test the RPCS3 emulator, would it be possible to add high demanding games that fully use the 8 cores of the PS3 IBM processor such as GOW ; Last of Us ; to see how powerfull that mini-PC multi cores processor is ? According to Minisforum, the MXM slot is "void". I have the 32GB/1TB model...and now I'm afraid to plug an MXM into it. They were supposed to have a model NAG6 - which was the NAD9 with an MXM card already installed, but seem to have changed their minds and moved further to making one with an AMD CPU instead. I'm guessing that it's the 120W power supply that is the holdback.

    The idea of MXM on a miniPC is cool but when it comes to MXM GPUs judging from how they have been handled the past 10 years i know it means paying several times what they're worth while also having very limited choices for upgrade. I'd rather they go the route of a lower powered GPU embedded like a 6600M or a more gimmicky eGPU setup. Because any sort of value proposition this could have goes out the window if MXM is the plan. Yeah maybe you can have a very small sized gaming rig with respectable power, is it really worth it over a regular miniITX build though?

    What about the fan noise and the temperatures for this mini PC ? I've heard that Minisforum is working on the NAG6 which is an evolution of the NAD9 and should include a RX6600M graphic card, and the HX99G which is an HX90G including a 6900HX CPU. These PC should be released in mid february. I hope you'll be able to test them. I'd like to replace my Ryzen 3600 by one of them. Do you think these mobile CPU are better or equivalent to the Ryzen 3600 ? I don't play but need a graphic card for some CAD 3D applications. I'm also working on Linux (EndeavourOS). I think this shouldn't be a problem except for some drivers (WIFI6 for example). Something that is missing on most of these mini PC is audio SPDIF (optical/coax) outputs. The only one I know is the Intel Nuc Serpent Canyon, but it's too expensive for me. Thanks for your videos.

    • @chryoko
      @chryoko ปีที่แล้ว

      agree that SPDIF, even if old sound format, is still super usefull to connect an externnal DAC pre-amp for headphones or amplified monitor speakers. Sometimes the DAC single USB port is already taken by an other source : in my case, i have 2 PCs connected to the DAC USB via an USB switch (Keyboard - mouse - DAC). But i have in addition my Mister FPGA connected via SPDIF. SO SPDIF is not dead ! Long life to SPDIF !😃

      ETA prime is in bed with these companies, he always omits things that aren't pleasant to say(that other reviewers would) and in return they send him free stuff, share his videos and possibly sponsor him, it's nothing new. Another
      The temps are HIGH, up to 91 degrees according to some Japanese reviewers. Nothing crazy but something that should be tested, especially when he will show off the temps when it is low.
      Another example is when he doesn't call out the annoying screw mechanisms or cheap build quality like other reviewers, he really only says positive things and is weirldly optimistic.

  • @m.l.9385
    @m.l.9385 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really would like to see an revival of MXM-GPUs, but right now you can't get any modern GPU in his form factor - the last NVidia did was Turing(with RTX 2080 and RTX 5000) in 2019 and AMD AFAIR ended support with Polaris (with Radeon Pro WX 4170 and Radeon Embedded E9174) in 2017...
    The next problem is pricing - MXM-GPUs are usually guide expensive if purchased new - you can get some okay deals on used parts, but there is still a premium to be paid for this form factor.
    A wider base in MiniPCs and a revival could cut costs though - but honestly I don’t see this coming.
