I'm not a builder, but the video described the line in which the first course should be installed, and it's 8 inches above grade. If your 5 courses of foundation go above the grade quite a bit, you could potentially start your first course on the foundation wall using masonry screws to attach the starting strip, as long as there isn't a ledge (I'm assuming) where your framed walls start.
