    I have some issues with this video...certainly Isaac has the best of intentions and seems like a great guy I would love to get to know. But netting repeatedly can damage their slime coat (a protective part of their skin)...netting can cause abrasions and make them vulnerable disease. Vernal pools in nature do not have "water changes" like this, so it would make sense to remove about half the water and add fresh. Make sure you add rain water, not treated water from the tap. Removing all the water at once and then adding new water can be a shock, especially if the water is a different temperature (stress makes disease or fungus more likely). Do this very gradually, or measure the temperature of the water to make sure it is the same...I just leave my "new" water out overnight next to my 'poles to acclimate. Also, they feed on almost anything, even each other if water levels in the puddles they live get low enough for only a few to survive. The most common food is algae and decaying plant matter, so some dead leaves from the pond you got them from and some sunlight will grow what they need. The container that you are keeping them in will make it very hard to get out once they metamorphize into little frogs. So...a tray with gently sloping sides, and/or a structure like a pile of rocks to allow something for them to hold onto and crawl out of the water when they metamorphose...the transition physiologically is hugely demanding, especially switching to breathing air. Protect from predators, such as birds or raccoons. Keep the container in a place where the little frogs will have a safe place to get back into the wild. Don't expose them to overly extreme temperatures, though in the wild they are pretty hardy. Please, if they are in a safe place to begin with, DON'T take them from the wild...if they are in a vulnerable place (puddles made by ATVs or in dirt roads, ditches, etc.) please do try to save them. Frogs just see a good place and are not capable of knowing what cars are. i found the eggies in my bathtub pond filter. i have a swimming pool with goldfish and turtles i am trying to make in to a fish pond. i put the eggies in 2 twenty gallon aquariums. six weeks now i think andthey have not begun to morph. i keep looking for rear leggies but i will release most of them this week and only keep a few then lower the wader level and place a rock or some thing for them to climb up on when they become froggies.

      I just have a quick question, so I have one tadpole in my room near my window right now and the pond it came from is in my garden but It has a lot of flower leaves and leaves and I thought it couldn’t really breathe. It has pond weed and stones in there and rain water I was just wondering if that was ok and some tips on how to help it survive

      @@elianeisbetter that all sounds like the right stuff to have with them just make sure you part change the water every few days leave some water out for a day if it’s from a tap. Few leaves for food and the sunlight everyday they will grow fast then as legs appear put a stone or make something with a bottle or something so they can start to leave the water.

    We had some tadpoles hatch out in my kids baby pool while we were out of town. I want to save some of them and raise them as a hands on science experiment for my kids. I have no idea what kind they are, I assume they're the little frogs (people call them tree frogs around here but that may be completely wrong?). I bought a 10 gal fish tank to keep on the porch. Any advice would be appreciated. I've read to use a filter and I've read not to and I've read use one with a sponge filter as you are doing here. Is that from the beginning or only when they reach a certain age/size? Same with food, I've read boiled lettuce, fish food, and nothing at all of there's no lid on an outside tank. I bought a small jar of frog food at Walmart but that may be completely wrong. I love frogs so part of me is just trying to save as many as possible (Another question, how many can I put in the tank?) and the other part just thought it'd be fun for the kids but I have no idea what I am doing. TBH I've even read several different kinds and different amounts of water to put in the tank. I figure I have to move them soon before they run out of air in the pool or it gets too hot (IDK?) so whatever advice you can give as fast as possible would be greatly appreciated!

    • @isaacswift8950
      @isaacswift8950  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, without knowing what species they are I can’t really give 100% advice, but most tadpoles will eat romaine lettuce and fish flakes and I’ve never needed to use a filter for my tadpoles. They can breath air by just coming to the surface and gulping but to add some oxygen to the water you could find some aquatic plants and put them in there too. I’m going to assume they are tree frog tadpoles so I’d try and look up a care guide for them to get more information :)

    • @isaacswift8950
      @isaacswift8950  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amysnews6808 I’d say play it by eye, put some in there and see how quickly they eat it all, there’s no real amount per tadpole that you should feed them as long as you aren’t OVER feeding them which can be more of a problem than under feeding them :)

      As soon as they get backlegs, they become carnivores. You can get frozen bloodworms from an aquarist shop. One tablet a day is enough. Stop feeding when front legs appear as they absorb their tail. Then the aphids or crickets can start.

      I left a glass pickle jar full of algae water and small microorganisms (infusoria) in my garden. The frogs laided eggs in the jar after a short rain event. It would help to put a stick or twig in the jar so the pair of frogs can escape after they mate. A big bowl of algae water would work as well. Algae and pond microorganisms insure the frogs that there is enough food for the tadpoles.

      You can but you should condition it with water conditioner, the chlorine in tap water is not good for their skin at all

      Very few died in comparison to how many survived, I released 2000 froglets back into the wild and probably only had around 50 dead :)
