Don't get me wrong, I like the Monster Jam series...the tricks they're able to pull off now are amazing. But I really miss the old style trucks like this.
@bmvwmtrl There was a bulldozer and divers on scene. I have part of the recovery effort on tape. I'm not sure what was damaged, because the original tape ends too early. I heard that the truck was running the next weekend.
To see if it floats. A lot of monster trucks do, because the tires are less dense than water. They used to even have races across lakes, back in the 80's.
Quarry? I wouldn't think any place with a ledge would be a good place to test this out for the first time. Specially one that just drops off to nothing after shallow water. Fun to watch though... thanks.
This truck kicks ass. First, because its a long bed style pick up. A lot of the old school trucks were short beds for whatever reason. I miss the old school trucks too, with all of the chrome. It sucks that the truck dunked, but the tires and wheel base was way too narrow for boating. I am guessing the computer software never factored in water sports. X -D Anyways the hair stood on my neck when it dunked. Great vid, but my heart was left broken in the end. Lol
@Wyattriot77 ....I with draw my dumb ...dumb remark being that the truck slipped and at that point there was no turning back. Btw , I never built anything like that truck. Built a couple of swamp buggies with friends but nothing on that scale of course. Something of that scale is no easy or cheap task , must've had some serious coin in it.
i am sure this has been stated, but is it "EXCALIBUR" or "EXCALIBER" not trying to be a downer, but the title says different than the side of the truck
@@nonyabiznezzzzz no problem, I had that video as a kid, and lost it. About two years ago I found it on TH-cam. I sat down with a beer and watched it with pure glee. Those were the golden days of monster trucks.

Yes they got it out. I assume they used a crane or something, unless they were able to otherwise flip it back upright and pull it out on its wheels. Surprised there's no footage of the recovery.
@rcruz003 It was for a photo shoot, and the truck truck slipped off the underwater quarry wall... btw, rcruz..what have you ever built or done like this?
It was pretty common back then to ''float'' monster trucks, and it had been done successfully by Bigfoot and probably a few others up to this point. Some trucks just weren't good floaters, apparently Excalibur couldn't do it.
that is not no cruise ship. it needs horizontal stabilizers. would have stayed a float if i did. except it would have hydro locked It needed a snorkel . Poor dead truck.

That driver should have been diving to the passenger side to at least attempt to get some weight over there. He just sat there. Even after it was apparent this thing is going down, he just sat there until it was upside down.
No dip shit I don't but if you have that much money into a truck and it's about to be upside down in water I'm gonna try anything I can to offset weight.
@@OSDCrusher because of two things, having a wide enough wheelbase so it doesnt roll on its side, and also how the rear is lighter than the front because the engine and everything adds weight to the nose. The first time he goes in, he doesnt float because he goes front first and the engine weighs it down. The back is light as hell, so he backs in instead, and the rear floats, but once he comes off the ledge, 1 the front sinks, and 2 because of the narrow truck, he rolls to the side. This is the first truck I saw launch off of the cars in the 80s when everyone else was creeping over them..... lucky to finish without breaking.
I know he was the hi flyer. built with moog parts
Wow, brings back memories. I was there that day taking the pictures for the photo shoot. Weird.
the race version of Excaliber could absolutely fly. It used to dominate at the old figure-8 track in Louisville, KY in the early 90's.
probably. this Excaliber is heavy as hell. dual framerails. steel body.
I nicknamed it flying Excalibur

Original monster trucks are so much cooler than today’s trucks in the 2020s.
Kind of disturbing to hear the cheers of joy when it flipped.
that driver is LUCKY god pulled his ass up, outta the way of the Truck when it flipped

So where’s the video of the recovery effort that took place to bring it back on shore?…
they could have kept it level if they stayed on the gas those Tires paddling would have kept the weight evenly distributed
He just needed duals.
well that was about as smart as buying a ford on purpose..
as you watch the chevy sink,ha....
Yeah if I remember correctly Bigfoot #1 / #3 didn't have any issues floating. Sounds like a Chevy problem lol.

The lady of the Lake eventually returned it to Arthur...
This was the first truck to beat Bigfoot!

Very high revs and a lot of noise with the thing hardly moving
That would be what you call a stall converter.
stall converter and a shit load of gear reduction. The truck was probably capable of 45 to 50mph if you really wrung it out.
