I don’t work for Hornady and I am not their paid spokesman. TH-cam dropped this video on me. I don’t normally watch these types of “commercials”but I have recent direct experience with thei Homady 300 BLK 190 gr Sub X ammo and I actually wanted to hear what the engineers had to say. Yes, the moderator had a cringe moment or two but everything the engineers said about that round is true. I am extremely impressed with the performance of these rounds. The velocity is as advertised (I measured it with a chrono). And out of my 10.5” pistol they punched a sub-1” group at my zero range of 80 yards. It’s some of the best factory ammo I’ve ever used and I would not hesitate to use these rounds on hogs or deer. Well done Hornady!!! Now please crank up the production line and get these on the shelf!!!
I'm loading the 175 gr. Sub-X in my .308 16.25" barrelled bolt gun. You guys released that perfectly timed with me making my first suppressed rifle. ;) Mine drops off the reticle at 185 yards. Trail boss and Unique or Red Dot all work well for subsonics.
I have used the Hornady factory load for the 190 Sub-X for hogs and deer. My longest shot has been 52 yards. I get consistent nickel size exit wounds from broad side shots. All animals were down within 30 yards. The solid copper bullets do expand larger, however I get far less penetration with no exit on broad side shots. The animals also take much longer to go down. 50 to 100 yards. That's why I stick with Hornady Sub-X. It may also be noted that the Hornady load is the only 300 Blackout factory load that meets the F.B.I. performance requirements.
Probably a bad idea because that high twist doesn't like traditional hollow points. But they did make a 338 bullet, and they're releasing their own cartridge, called 338 Arc.
These Sub x rounds are amazing. They are devastating on hogs I use the 300 Blackout and 450 Bushmaster suppressed and it puts a hurting on them. I just bough these in 350 Legend also haven’t got to use them yet but definitely looking forward to it. These rounds are extremely accurate y’all keep it up definitely have something going with these bullets. I buy these caliber’s by the case they are that good.

I don't have a suppressor so I don't shoot much sub sonic but the 300 blackout looks interesting with the sub x loading love hornady I reload alot of hornady projectiles being there not over crazy priced and heck of good performance thanks hornady!!
All of the testing of the Sub-X .300 bullets ive seen shows the tip expanding to sub-caliber size. So barely better than heavy OTMs. Haven't seen anything about the .45-70 or .450 Bushmaster.
@@LRRPFco52 Thank you for your comment. I have sucessfully made my own subsonic loads already. But a bullet that will expand at subsonic speeds is another problem. I have a bolt action, so no gas issues.

Appears someone is wanting to make a simple process of swaging bullets as a very complicated process. Subsonic bullets for rifles are a challenge as your trying to a narrow diameter bullet act like a pistol bullet. This is a process of designing weight in the rear and adjusting the length of the copper jacket to reduce bearing length (area that touches the rifle lands) and still have a tapered nose. I would try a brass jacket with a pure lead slug with a flat base and a deep hollow point. The thickness of the brass is the key to the end results as the character of brass will com into play.
@@nk-dw2hm LOL! Thanks for telling us all your age and education. I get the idea you don't know what swaging is! Would you like to talk about what you don't understand?
@@kensmith8832 you do enough of that for both of us. I know more than enough to understand how little knowledge you have. Are you 65+? It seems like you're trying to make 1950s knowledge seem relevant when metallurgy and manufacturing have come a long ways. I also know enough to understand you know little to nothing about expansion, which was the central component to this video.
I think the issue here is trying to meet FBI requirements. It’s also worth noting that you also have to get the jacket to draw out in a production press. As one of two operators that produce most of the 175, 190, and 255 grain projectiles, I can tell you that trying to draw out brass jackets and be able to meet internal accuracy and expansion standards is going to be a difficult thing to do. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think with using smaller punches and dies, jacket concentricity problems could be a limiting factor in a small application like this when it comes to production.
@@gregoryhamer6027 Finally, an engineer! Thanks for the reply. What I am learning is copper and brass can't be stamped like steel, so a drawing process is required. This process requires annealing with every step. We need to start with cast cups, before the drawing process begins.
Coming from 300blk.... not a fan of the SubX. 300blk subs are like +p+ 9mm or some say spicy .45. It's still poking holes. I want a solid copper expander that will expand to 2 or 3 times the 30 cal diameter and cuts like broadhead arrowhead. The Subx folds back and pokes a hole about the size of a .45 fmj. Also dude said same velocity from an 8 inch and a 18 inch barrel. I think the engineers cringed at this. So for 300blk out of an AR a 220 sub will gain around 5fps (twist rate will vary this) per inch from 7 inchs out to 16 inches. The only advantage you get from this is typically lower cost (this is in relation to better copper expanders) and availability Edited....
