You're right, David Cook's is actually the most distinctive voice in this song. He starts it off, and you can pick out his voice the whole time. I think that girl's just a big David Archuleta fan.
If you watch Cook he is hitting the table but is not singing at all. As soon as Archie joined it it got better because he really knows how to harmonize.
> And he's actually done impromptu harmonizing > before No one claims that he hasn't. We all have, whether singing Happy Birthday or He's a Jolly Good Fellow. I have no doubt that he's done so many times, with his family, friends, and fellow contestants. The question was whether he is accomplished enough to do what vazp2 claimed he was doing. I said no, based on his backgroud.
> He actually sang in an a cappella choir in > high school As Askmeformoreinfo stated, that is highly rehearsed -- especially in a choir setting, where there is vocal arranger. Impromptu harmonizing is very different. > he wasn't influenced much by jazz music Read carefully: I wrote that his "parental influences" were jazz and Latin, meaning those were his earliest influences. I never stated how much. And you're wrong, he told Z100 that he was influenced by jazz and latin music.
> he never got into jazz himself as a kid. His > early influences were actually in soul music He told Z100 that his influences were jazz, Latin, gospel and R&B and Broadway. All of his idols were strong solo singers; he did not cite harmonizing R&B groups like The Platters, The Supremes, Destiny's Child, etc. Even gospel singer Kirk Franklin is really a solo artist. Once again, nothing in his background suggests a strong harmonizer that was trying to find the key in this impromptu effort.
"As soon as Archie joined it it got better because he really knows how to harmonize" Not really, since he starts at 0:30 and it ends at 0:34. Nothing in David's background indicates an accomplished harmonizer. He's always been a solo singer. Unlike Cook and Jason, he was never in a band, nor was he raised in gospel like Chikezie. His parental influences were Latin and jazz, which don't have strong vocal harmonizing. All his idols are strong SOLO vocalists. Nothing indicates a good harmonizer.
> you making conclusions about his ability to > harmonize based on this 1:02 clip Uhh, no, if you'd read carefully, you'd see that others are doing that, claiming that he is trying to find the right key to harmonize. I did the opposite of what you claimed. I made NO conclusions based on the clip; my conclusions were based on his biography.
"so that he could pick his key to harmonize" Unlikely, since this came out of the blue. Nothing in David's background indicates an accomplished harmonizer. He's always been a solo singer. Unlike Cook and Jason, he was never in a band, nor was he raised in gospel like Chikezie. His parental influences were Latin and jazz, which don't have strong vocal harmonizing. First, you didn't cite any video. Second, I wondered why you didn't have the courtesy to just quote where Archuleta supposedly had the harmonizing skills. Now I know: The article said no such thing. I don't know if you lied, or just don't read clearly. And rationalthinker DID answer your point by saying that anyone can impromptu harmonize (i.e. Happy Birthday) but that doesn't prove he had teh kills claimed by the other guy. Here's a clue: Read carefully, THINK, and then type honestly.
I agree with rationalsanethinker. David's idols are all solo singers, i.e. he selected Michael jackson, not The Jackson Five. "And the answer is yes he is. I cited the USA Today video, which you conveniently ignored" Wrong. You mentioned a "USA Today article," not some video. Get your facts right and lose the attitude. Worse, you mischaracterized it. Nowhere is it mentioned that he was figuring out a key, which was the point of this. And of course, YOU ignored his/her other points.
i am glad overmiehger wont be going along.. god she sounded like a dying animal and i was not impressed with her perfomance on the finale. did anyone catch that bit win after they announced the winner archie went to go hug everyone else and she pushed him?? did anyone see that or was that just me

lol, your name's funny. How could we possibly ask you for more info? You just described the whole clip. hahahaha.
