  • Here's another sweet study from this collection of etudes, full of Rose's trademark vivacity and operatic lyricism.
Recorded by Peter Anthony Smith on a Buffet Festival Clarinet, Vandoren BD5 mouthpiece, BG L4SR ligature, and a Vandoren V12 Strength 3.5+ reed.

Another great new piece; well played!. I think the last few measures highlight the incredible range of clarinet - always impressed how good it can sound both in the higher and lower notes.
It's been a few years since I've taken a music theory class. But that section 0:40 onward sounded really classical/Mozart-esque.

Thank you very much, I'm always happy to see your kind comments! Now that you point it out - that section is very similar to another in the Mozart clarinet concerto. Probably goes with the territory of operatic-style writing!

For some reason, my tone quality is declining my the day. Is this because of technique or because of my synthetic reed? Also your finger movements extremely smooth

Thanks mate! I always like to say that if you've got the tone you want in your head, you can always find your way back there. Might be worth trying a different set-up if you don't feel like your technique has changed?

(If you're going to take my playing as a model here, maybe actually do the piano that's written in around the half-way point, oops!)
