    You're going to get a ton of views with that video, it's the first thing begineers look up online usually, and it's understandable why. The first thing I drew were eyes, then faces, then heads, then bodies, and now full scenes.

      I'm in the face stage xDD I do a shit as hair and it messes up all the drawing... T.T Practice, I supose xDD

      I'm simplifying a bit. Do not feel like you have to master one theme before moving on. You can see my month to month progession on my blog if you want to :p : lothianalimantado.tumblr.com/ . too many faces, not enough bodies.

      ***** For hair, simplify it to a basic shape, and think in volumes. Study peaple around you, and think "how can I turn this mess into ONE single volume?" Focus on the shadow this volume creates, and remember, hair is shiny, so a lot of contrast is good.

    Sycra, I've been watching you for over a year now, and I don't know how to thank you enough. I watch your vids almost every morning, and have honestly learnt more from you than my classes in University (in Computation Arts). I owe you, big time, more than this silly video comment suggests. Cheers mate x

    I really hope that video will be a huge success. I will rewatch it many times in between practises.
    The point that in normal illustrations we don't draw huge detailed eyes and it's important to learn to simplify eyes, not only learn how to photo realistic detailing and shading was absolutely pure gold!
    Thank you Scyra for kindness of your heart expressed in this video.

    This is nice. I know you said (on stream I think) that you don't like these tutorials because they teach you one thing or something like that, but this goes into detail on why things look a certain way, which is nice.
    Also, if anyone else needs further tips on drawing eyes, one thing I don't think Sycra mentioned is that there are millions if not billions of pictures of eyes on the internet. Reference is really good.

    Sycra, you always have such a great way of explaining stuff, what seems so simple and obvious never really is and you can pin point exactly why simple things are never simple. You also bring up things that we take for granted and find so obvious that we actually forget about them, and you bring that to light and this creates a whole new way of looking at reality. If that makes sense.. really enjoy your videos, as always! Keep up the amazing work!!!

    This technique is brilliant. I've always had trouble with drawing both eyes. I would draw one eye and get overwhelmed because i had no idea where to put everything else on the face. Now that I know to draw the head shape first, it's MUCH easier. Thank you, I've been struggling with that for as long as I can remember and I don't think I would've tried anything different.

    Awesome as usual, but would you mind using a thicker brush in future tutorials? It was difficult to see where you were drawing until the lines had built up a bit.

    • @anhhuynhkimnguyen6793
      @anhhuynhkimnguyen6793 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if the brush was any thicker, the drawing would've been very stroky and confusing, which would make the drawings look unprofessional. However, thats just my opinion and is probably incorrect :)

    • @MysteriousAsteria
      @MysteriousAsteria 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      of course what he draws will be better and he will get there faster. He has invested hours in practising to become that good. I am sure Sycra too used to be in a state where drawing something other than random shapes must have taken him minutes to hours. We all are or were there. But if you keep practising you may be becoming faster and better. ;)

  • @GeekyGami

    So, you were wondering why some parts that were supposed to be in shadows were lighter at some point.
    I think I may know why.
    I believe it is very dependent on the environment the object is in as well as its texture, be it mat or glossy.
    Say, with a day in the open, with blue skies, you've probably noticed that the shadows on snow appeared to be blue for some reason.
    Well, that reason's fairly simple, it's the light that radiates from the sky.
    Now, considering this, there are also other factors, which you have talked about before, such as the reflection of light in shadows. I'm not sure exactly what you looked at in that instance, but I would definitely look up ray tracing.
    It's a rendering technique that imitates the way light is reflected onto things by way of rays hitting an object and bouncing back with the same degree as the original ray.
    What the second part of the ray hits is what is reflected onto the surface that is hit by the first part of it.
    This explains for example the deforming mirrors you see at amusement parks. Say, one of them bulges out, your reflection is thinner, because there is more distance between things hit by the ray, and that is also the reason one that bulges inward horizontally appears to be in three dimensions, due to our stereoscopy.
    Mind you, most of the time, if something that is in shadows is part of a reflection, that part of the reflection is not there in the first place, only its surrounding light.
    Can probably look at the stand of a glossy flat screen for reference.
    Another thing I've noticed is that if you have an object of a certain color, and what is reflected on it is the same color, that reflection will tend to be a more saturated version of said color.
    I hope this helps you as much as you helped me.

    Sycra, you have some wind sounds in the background, presumably from a ventilator or simply the computer fan. Getting a noise profile in your editing program will remove this. It's not the biggest of problems, but it's just a bit distracting.

    Thank gosh I'm not painting yet. Colours don't make much of a sense. I have pencil and that does the job for me. In the future, painting would be nice, I guess but I'm way more interested in inking. Pen and ink methods looks really impressive and it's not like I wouldn't understand how they do it, it's more accessable to my understanding than painting is. And it looks cooler, imo.
