    100% agree with all your points. GoPros are so unreliable and frustrating. The amount of times I didn’t get footage on a GoPro was embarrassing!!! Ride Safe. Monty.

    Hey Sterling, glad I saw this vid. Been holding off doing biking videos for a couple years waiting for something better than GoPro to come along. This video was just what I needed to get me back into recording my adventures. Great to see your Amazon store list of your equipment too - I want to start doing some camping on my annual bike migrations from Canada to southern U.S.

    Thanks for experiences. I think that reliability is paramount. That's why I still use the old GoPro 7 black. But since I started using the Insta 360 X2 and seeing the advantages of Chinese cams (e.g. battery life, ease of use) I'm tempted by the DJI Action 3 and 4. After TET/ACT Romania (Transalp 600) and TET Wales (solo Beta Alp 200) there will be time to reflect. Santa time? All the best, Günter/Nürnberg

    Great review, both generally but also from the motorcycle adventurist perspective. I love the front and rear facing touch screen dual interface. I never understood why GoPro didn't make it easy and inexpensive to attach an external mic. That's something most GoPro users want and GoPro pretty much told their customers to pound sand because you're not getting anything but an exclusive proprietary external mic accessory that's difficult to use.

    Sterling I've watched numerous video reviews of action cameras. It seems like so many people have been supporters of GoPro, and my son recently bought a Hero 9 and already he's having the exact issue you talked about, with it locking up. He's sending it back to Amazon. I'd be curious to know how comparable image stabilization is between the Ozmo 3 and your latest GoPro you used ? It seems GoPro would be "jumping hoops" to get the issue with their action camera solved, but like I just said about the one my son bought it's still a problem.
    Also I'd really love to watch what you have to say regarding your Fuji mirrorless camera. So many camera reviews are done so quickly and are for people with camera and video recording experience. I'm an older guy and they seem to speak over my head. You've got a "down to earth, how to get it done" way of getting your information to us novices. Thanks you sir.

    Sorry if you have answered this obe before, but how do you capture audio with your helmet cam? Some people seem to use their GoPro's built in mic, which surprises me as I would have thought the wind noise and the barrier of the helmet between their mouth and rhe cam would result in poor audio quality. I'm thinking that an external mic is a necessity, regardless of the cam's brand...

    Thanks for the useful review. I have a couple of questions for you. Do you think the front facing screen would get damaged on a long multi-day journey? (bug splatter etc). And how easy is it to know whether you've started recording while you are riding? (does it give you feedback that you can hear above the wind noise)

    • @SterlingNoren
      @SterlingNoren  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think that the front screen is any more susceptible to damage than the lens itself. I don’t generally leave the helmet camera on my helmet all day long. I only put it on there when I use it and then I put it in my tank bag when I am not using it. I can tell when I am recording by seeing the little indicator on the back of the camera I can’t always hear the sounds, unless I am going slowly and have my visor open.

    • @theNZbv
      @theNZbv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SterlingNoren Thanks. That's good to know. I would usually leave my camera on my helmet because I never know when the next interesting view will emerge. Probably shows that I don't plan my shots at all.

    Interesting, both for the camera, and how you set up.
    I’ve tried a few cheeper action cameras. Just experimenting. I have a dash cam. found I liked my Sony action cam on bars better. I have also used an AKASO, hard to tell if they are on or off.
    Go pro cost and reliability has kept me from investing.
    The external mike would be nice. My current cameras have no options for external Mike. So all I get is the engine
    I do like to have video a record of my rides for my own enjoyment.

    Nice review of this camera setup! Did you ever use your Insta 360 in any length? I watch all of your content on here and haven't seen you use it except the one time. Just wondering how liked it. I'm afraid to use mine, as it shuts down prematurely due to what it says is overheating. It's on a chin mount on my helmet.

      Hi Rick, yes I still have the Insta 360 camera and I think it is very fun and easy to use. I might use it some more. I like the creative possibilities with it but I somehow don't always feel that the 360 look fits with my style of videos. I know that it can be used as a normal action camera (ie, not 360) but then that kind of defeats the purpose. We will see, I have no real complaints with it, other than the reframed footage resolution is not as good as a normal action camera.

    Hello.🙋🏻‍♂️ Please tell me what solution you found to have good sound from the motorcycle? When you talk on the move at speeds over 40-50km/h? I also recently bought an Action 3 with Boya By-k4 adapter cable on the recommendation of several people on YT. I use it with a Rode Smart Lav and have also tried a Small Rig lavalier. The problem is that I am very disappointed with the sound when I am riding the bike. Without moving, at -12db it captures the sound cleanly. When I start moving and the ambient noise appears... It distorts badly. I ruined an entire motorcycle tour with it... I'll see when I edit what I can save and use from the sound... Thanks in advance for a possible answer. 😁🤝 The camera itself, is cool.
