As someone living in Boston who regularly attends Berklee's sessions I would like to point out that you are wrong. Berklee Indian Ensemble and Berklee Indian Exchange(BIX) are both wings of Berklee just like many others. They do have Indian music incorporated into their curriculum. The male singer Rohith Jayaraman is the assistant manager of BIX and Annette Philip is the artistic director. They have a residency program. Former residents include Clinton Cerejo, AR Rahman, Vijay Prakash, Shankar Mahadevan, Raghu Dixit, Indian Ocean(band), and Shreya Ghoshal. The current resident is Shadow and Light(musical duo - Pavithra Chari and Anindito Bose) I believe.
Annette Phillip, a Keralite from Delhi, now a faculty member of Berklee College of Music, founded in 2011 the Berklee Indian Ensemble. It draws musicians, from all across the world to give new nuances and accents to A.R. Rahman’s songs. I think Rahman is one of the sponsors of the ensemble. Hence they do indian music, especially A R Rahman’s music.

Each and everytime i listen to that song, it gives me goosebumps. It does something inside me and the beaches in that movie are in my native - Kanykumari. One of the beautiful coastal road was once there connecting all the beaches in our district but after tsunami, it isn't taken care of. Berklee Indian Ensemble was setup with that school by the lady playing the piano because of the lack of understanding of the Eastern hemisphere music and the complexity of Indian music ( Hindustani and Carnatic) and the depth that exists within the variety that is in INDIA. It also had a lot of Indian American kids as well as Indian kids from India enroll in the school. So it was thought that the INDIAN Ensemble would set the stage for expanding the available options for students to learn both Western and Indian music and enlarge their horizons.
