- Making a Viking Crown from brass. Cast brass plates are modified and mounted to a crown made of brass. Take an inside look over the shoulder of prop builder Levi Woods as he makes a Viking Crown from sheet and brass rods. He cuts shapes rivets and solders to create a beautiful crown, fit for a king.

In this series I will show the step by process of making a viking inspired King’s Crown with solid bronze castings. Join me in the shop as I layout the initial pattern on sheet metal and cut the pieces to shape. This is an excellent beginner armor project as building a crown of this design is quite simple. I will be using brass, mild steel and showing all the armor techniques of a professional armorsmith in this series. The Sutton Hoo helmet plates used in this video are from Raymond’s Quiet Press and can be ordered from him.

what gauge would you say this metal is? also, I really would like to see crowns being worn just so that I know that they are wearable. sometimes crowns really don't fit on the crown of the head
I think it was 22 ga. I usually have it written on the metal so people can see in the video. It definitely did not fit me as it was made for a client with a much bigger head.

Brass plate, brass rod, plates and fittings from Raymond’s quiet press, silver solder. Aluminum rod for rivet offset. Solid brass 1/8” round rivets, brown/black jax for the patina. Furniture wax to finish. Let me know if there was anything else you were unsure of. Thanks for watching.
Can you dumb this craft down for we who do not have the acumen for such an industrious attempt, however, a Father's Day simile is most needed. Made not of paper a la the Burger King crown. Pat-South Padre Island, Texas

I did go to university for sculpture. But most of my training was self taught through many hours of failure. And watching lots of youtube:)

It's pretty great. But it was a commissioned piece.
You'd have to save someones village for that otherwise its cursed to fall off your head

Depending to your presentation of how I like every each including rune ' armor ' weapon for my world raging other country. A side of that we must help with English goverment to down pride as the changes of English Greek. Combine at modern
It's so strange. I know so many smiths who make spectacular things, things that look dwarven forged, of the highest quality and made properly not with cardboard, plastic and glue. But none of them can get their foot in the prop making business. It's almost as if you have to be part of a particular in-group to be accepted in, it doesn't matter the quality of your work. And that is a shame. Seeing him go to greater lengths to fake a rolled edge rather than rolling it, and every Made in China type low quality cheaty way used that literally doesn't save time, resources, or effort than doing it properly is the epitome of everything wrong with the prop industry. It's a shame such low quality is lauded.
