  • How to make hair for your handmade doll using wool or yarn. I explain the process step by step, showing you how I make my Tilly Doll pattern with yarn instead of felt hair.
    UPDATE ~ For more detail on stitching the yarn hair while it's wrapped around the card, please watch this video:

    this has been insanely helpful. I'm a self taught sewist and am making a "fairy princess" doll for my aunt's friends granddaughter who is turning one. A rag doll and simple dress I can make no problem, but yarn hair is a mystery. A lot of tutorials I've seen get way too complicated way too fast for my tastes, but this is simple and straightforward. And thank you for that tip about the gap! I would have never known it could be a problem until it happened and then I'd be stuck trying to figure out what to do and once again wading through tutorials

    Great video and I'm not a doll maker. Would have like to see more detail on the stitching you do after wrapping and before cutting. I am a new subscriber now and will search through your site to see if I can find that detail. May you have great success in your future business. Those who give so freely of their time and talent will receive ten-fold in return. Thank you.

    I have been looking for directions to make hair for my dolls..(They are about the size of a one yr. old child) Thank you! I will be giving this tutorial a try. This should be fun! Been going to thrift stores and purchasing cable knit sweaters and other fabrications to make over for the clothing. Hope they turn out even half as cute as I think they will!😊

    Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial. I am recreating a ragdoll from a video game as a present and I was very nervous when it came time to give her hair. Your video made it very simple and easy for me to understand! You are a fantastic teacher. The doll turned out wonderfully, and I couldn't have done it without your help. Keep up the good work! I like this idea. I had a thought while watching that I could actually stitch on both sides of the cardboard, then cut it in the middle for when I make shorter hair. I wonder if that would work?? My sister wants a couple of dolls made, and I think she wants short hair for them.

    • @tillyandpuffin
      @tillyandpuffin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tillyandpuffin well, I'll be interested to see if it works. My sister ended up wanting long hair on her dolls so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Oh I know! I'll make a doll for myself and try it. 😀

    Does the yarn fray over time

    • @tillyandpuffin
      @tillyandpuffin  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had that happen with my dolls. It would depend a bit on what type of yarn you used. If the ends did fray a little over time, you could trim them to neaten them.

    But how do you stitch it??? I am a beginner, self-taught. I barely know how to sew...
    And I am trying to make a doll for my daughter. I don't have a sewing machine either so I am doing everything by hand.

      Hi Silverleaf. I also stitch my dolls by hand - you don't need a sewing machine. There are tutorials for making my Tilly dolls on my channel here www.youtube.com/@tillyandpuffin/videos . I'm also planning to make some sewing videos for beginners but in the meantime this channel; th-cam.com/play/PLe4jP3xshsch6XxUxO6Akg2lEe_V4LDmI.html has some basic hand stitching tutorials. Hope you enjoy making your daughter's doll. 🌸🌸🌸
