Its cruel to expect your pet cat or dog to suffer in untreatable pain, why should we demand a person clings on to the last agonized gasp?

Because politicians are afraid that legalized and therapeutic suicide assistance would lead to a mass exodus from a world made intolerable by them.

We know people will abuse it because people are shits. We should be concentrating on making lives better at their end of life.

@@Michelle-vv9lk Not entirely sure why it can’t be both. I think you should maybe try placing yourself into the shoes of others.

@ I have. I also know what is happening in Canada where this law has been passed. I suggest you do some research too

Imagine living with chronic pain and also worrying about your disability benefits being stopped at any moment..... At least Mr Kureshi has financial means and a voice.... Most have none

It would be wonderful if he would use his newfound knowledge and his platform as a public figure to become an advocate for those who don't have a voice

I think what is very salient here is the point Kureishi makes about the world not being accessible for those in wheelchairs. We all need to be more aware.

No, society doesn't kill people, we help them, protect the patients. A well funded and educated palliative care, can and will help the people in the biggest need!

Sometimes our best treatment can't take the edge off the pain, or help a person trapped in their own body waiting to choke to death on their own saliva. Neither of these would meet the threshold of palliative care and are unnecessarily cruel ways to go. I speak as having worked in hospital and seen death. If the worst should happen I would rather have the option of choosing a painless way out, in dignified surroundings and with my family close by.

Have you used the nhs recently? It nearly killed me over five days due to poorly trained staff and poor decisions ( long story short) ‘good care’ at present is an unobtainable and under funded, staffed and resourced dream………..
Possible solution? All govt employees are required to to use it including mp’s, cabinet and pm along with any royals in receipt of tax payers money!? Go well

If there's no God, let people do as they like, as atheism gives no basis for absolute right or wrong... But if there is a God, I have no right to take my or another's life, and it's something to consider with Judgement Day coming.

Oh right so its okay to kill people in the case of war (God says so himself in the bible) but its not okay to allow those who want to die to die peaceful and with ease please god himself has killed millions (story of Noah)
