    Masterful tweaking of the knobs! One could learn quite a bit by observing your technique and style. Thank you for illustrating the versatility of the thing. I want one now.

    Your original Mike Mullis X88R video inspired me to buy a Myasnikov Preamp a few years ago. Oleg even agreed to build me a X88 custom model substituting the X88 clean with a Fender Twin Clean channel with tube driven spring reverb. Looking forward to a 'room' sound video for comparison to the Mike Mullis clone. Maybe use your Tokai same as before, and grab a Marshall 50 watt power amp off Mike........

      Hi Rocko. The room audio in this recording was clipping a bit too much for my liking so I pulled it back a bit in the audio mix. I'm going to do a power amp shootout with my amps hopefully tomorrow using the Tokai. Should be pretty interesting. Fryette, Splawn, 68 SuperLead and Silver Jubilee. Mike only built that original setup for himself (I couldn't get him to build me one) but I believe the power amp schematics he used are on the AX84 forum somewhere. Maybe the Myasnikov guy can build you one.

      Cheers Drew, Still a great sound regardless of the room mic. Already pretty happy with my Australian built Abbey Sound 50 watt Stereo EL34 Power amp, but that sound of Mike's setup you played, was mind blowing. I should probably post a video of mine sometime. The Myasnikov's are not a exact copy of the X88R like Mike's, but had a few extra tweaks, which some say sound better, which is subjective, hence my humble comparison request. Glad to see your doing GAS video's again.

    I’ve been wondering how this was coming along. Hopefully it scratches your itch for an X88.

    Beautiful tone and great playing! What cabs did you use after the Fryette?

      Thanks. It's a splawn 4x12 cab with a pair of K100's and a pair of scumback H75's.

    The preamp sounds amazing... though do you find the lead channel is a little more harsh/ brittle/ not as refined as an orginal X88r?

      Don't play any Soldano style amp with V30's or GT1275's or any bright speakers. Soldanos are designed with a lot of brightness and need a speaker/cabinet that damps high frequencies. Even the EVH 5150III's sound harsh w/V30's due to the fact thier 'DNA' has a lot of Soldano in them. Soldano cabs are dark for this very reason. Greenbacks 65's creambacks etc are good choices. Soldano cabs use V128 Eminence (I think)

      @@kellyjackson7889 Don't really think so. Well at least my soldano sounds great with neutral to bright speakers, through V30s it has warmth but doesn't really get that hi fi-ish singing lead tone that I like to hear from soldano. I got to say that it is on the edge of brightness, and it makes things a bit too risky when eq'ing it.
      I like to actually co-relate treble as the limit of how the pressence behaves so to speak: How much fuzzy/bright/sizzle the pressence gets pretty much depends on where the treble control is set. If set to about midway, through my cab (which can get very bright) then you can still exploit that 7-11 on the pressence dial and not icepick. If you let more treble through you have to back off the pressence...But it's all predictable.
      Try the landeau trick:
      Dime the mid control, zero the treble pot. It still gets guitar trebl-y enough but never harsh. It actually gets a bit more marshall-y.
      I also like the treble dimed with the pressence set less than mid. So many tones from one amp...

    Hey man, how do you compare the Myasnikov to the Mesa Studio Preamp?

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't be any more different. Mesa studio is old school Mark II C preamp in a box. Myasnikov is 3 separate channels. I'd say the mysanikov has more flexibility but the Mesa has more character and mojo.
