This is surreal seeing my home on TH-cam like this. No one ever pays attention to North Dakota or the North Dakota Badlands. I am from just 10 miles west of Medora and worked there for several summers before college. I even did part of my Driver's Ed in the park. Thanks for showing it off.
I knowers that not only North Dakota is not been mention in anything but Montana or other north states at all. You do think is because is a frozen land in the winter?
My husband and I were doing a marathon of your videos this past weekend. When you were walking the trail to Teddy Roosevelt’s old home place, you made the statement that you felt a little uncomfortable because you were alone. I looked at my husband and said that you were not alone. That you had all of us with you. My husband gave me that look and I realized what I said. But you do make your videos feel like we are right there beside you. Your wonder and excitement come through on your videos so well. It makes me feel like I saw everything there is to see there. I believe that all your pictures are good enough to frame and hang on the walls. And that is a rare prize. Thank you so much.
I have to say I really appreciate your videos, because I won't be getting to any of these places any time soon, so I LOVE seeing the country side through your lens. Thank you for sharing!
A fantastic film of a wonderful journey through amazing landscapes. The more I see of North Dakota, the madder the accusations of it being 'boring' seem, and the more I want to cross the Atlantic and experience it first hand.
I really enjoy your travels, my husband passed away during the covid-19 but not from the covid-19 he passed away from a stroke right when all this started happening. I only got to go in and see him for 5 minutes and an hour later he passed away so I have been watching your videos and they're bringing me Comfort to see the outdoors when you really can't go anywhere in my situation so I want to thank you so much for these places you go to! Thank you again please keep them coming!☺👍👩👍 stay safe!😷
The soundtrack on this summer trip is on point. All your soundtracks have been good so far, but this one is standing out even among those other good ones.
You said it Robert, it is a Geologist dream. I've been to the Badlands twice and it never gets old. And one with a geology degree, I can't get enough of your videos.
Oh the good ole days when I used to drive from Fargo or Minneapolis to Seattle or Portland regularly. Always wanted to see TRNP. Thanks for taking me there.
Thanks Robert for saying nice things about my North Dakota, born and raised in the Bismarck, Mandan area and live in Fargo area, the real flat land and old lake bottom, I believe the Red River which runs north and is the border between ND and MN is the lowest spot in the state a stark contrast to the western side. Great video and thanks again.
What I like most about your style is that you present an atmosphere of just being on vacation with a good friend discovering this countries beauty together. Thank you for including us in your life.
Another wonderful video Robert! The scenery is spectacular!! Love how this is essentially your love song to the west!! Several years ago, my wife and I started hiking one of the trails you were looking at hiking across the Little Missouri. After a bit we ran into a herd of bison on the trail so started going around them cross country. With the ground rolling, we decided we couldn't see enough to ensure we wouldn't come up on a bison without warning so we decided to turn around. As we were hiking across the prairie without a marked trail, we heard a rattlesnake. Never did see the snake and managed to get back to the trail without a problem but we were reminded that there were wild animals around! :) Safe travels ... and safe hikes!
This is one of the first Traveling Robert videos I ever watched uninterrupted, and the one that broke the mold. I had always thought North Dakota was desolate and empty of anything worth paying attention to. But that eye opening topography and those otherworldly geological formations, oh my. It made me realize there’s a big stereotypical world out there that is begging to be painted in a new light. And here you are, doing just that. One external hard drive at a time. The sense of being dropped into the center of a scene or into the tactile truth of a landscape is a feat to behold for my brain, and to be able to create that way, is talent wisely used. I’m pretty sure I tapped the subscribe button after viewing this episode. I’m glad you are showing so many places more than once because once, is just never enough, is it? A great re-watch to go with the new episodes, and a nice way to end the day. Thanks for creating such a varied library of discoveries over all these years. I’ll always watch when I can, and I’m happy to support. Now, I just need to find the perfect spot for the sticker that came in the mail today.😊
I am a fan of your videos , when my husband see me watching he says : Ah ! your friend! , That is why my eyes were watery reading one of the comments , the 3th one under mine where she says you are not alone in Teddy Roosevelt ranch , she is completely right you have so much company !!! And I am one more ! Love you are waving your left hand through the open window of the truck at the end of the videos . Thank you for show us places that it won’t be easy for some of us to visit . Keep doing it please !
I've lived in this state my entire life and I've done like two of these things. I have never visited the North unit before so I think I need to do that this summer!
I met a retired farmer from SD at my County Grange. We watched the square dancing of younger folks and as the fiddle players were too loud we had a chat out on the porch chairs. Quiet night. Coyote yips. Smell of fresh cut hay. Was told he'd sold the farm. Right next to the badlands. Absolutely nothing in view except a crashed USAAF bomber. 'Flew into a flat place. Burnt.' His daddy said, 'Noise caused the cow to run off and they has no milk until it was found.' A week later. 'Got on the party line and told the Sheriff. Lots of strangers came, who got angry when we didn't have answers to their questions, and then they were alone again.' It could have been a bad dream except for that one thing that couldn't be ignored. '
Hello Traveling Robert😊😊🎸🎸, Unfortunately there are no PELICANS in Theodore Roosevelt National Park but, there are lots of Bison, deer, and prairie dog's. The scenery is so SPECTACULAR, especially the main unit. I definitely like the main unit so much better. Driving I-94 into Western South Dakota feels like it's the gateway to the west. Driving to the west, into the sunset driving to West🎵🎵🎵🎵!! I'm really looking forward to the next video as you head to Glacier National Park, but I know there are some other hidden gems on the way. Great video Robert👍👍👍!
I may be only one person, but thank you for showcasing our state like this! If or when you decide to come through again, I greet you with open friendly arms. Maybe with a Kuchen in the fridge? lol
Great video of my home state Robert. They should call this area the "Gateway to the west" instead of st Louis. Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
That was such a great video Robert! The scenery is amazing and I was totally awestruck by the many different rock formations. How can anyone not wonder how they were made and use their imagination to name the rocks as they see them. Love those Prairie Dogs! Thank you for making and sharing. Stay safe, and be blessed!
The badlands it's truly a place of peace and quiet, i have debilitating anxity and this is a place where I like to come heal and forget everything let me tell you guys his camera makes it beautiful but my god being there in person is breathtaking, mountains are cool and all but go to madora trust. i also climbed the beauts behind the shops in town
We loved our visit to the park. We spent quite a while watching the prairie dogs and bison. Actually had a bison walk right next to the car. I could have reached out and pet it from the passenger window. TRNP is a great place to see wildlife up close
If its the middle of the day, especially in the summer, your chances of seeing wildlife are slim. Thats pretty much anywhere. Your best times are right as the sun is rising and right when it's getting ready to go down. Just a lil tip to raise your chances of seeing wildlife anywhere. Love your videos Robert!
Absolutely loved your video! We were there at the end of September and it was so windy so we didn't get to do much hiking. Standing up on the top Buck Hill was hard enough! I found the North Unit to be more beautiful than the South Unit, and when we were there we basically had the north unit to ourselves. We were at this park after being in Yellowstone, and even though Yellowstone is unbeatable, there was just something about Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Having hardly anyone around while you are taking in the views makes you really appreciate what you are seeing even more and the landscape there is stunning. I have told everyone that it's absolutely a park that everyone should go to. It makes you really take in nature and appreciate what we have around us. Thank you so much for sharing it with everyone!
I watched the early release of this video and boy was it awesome! I had never seen or read much about the Badlands previously and now it's on my bucket list! Thanks Robert! Fantastic job as usual!
#182 Good morning, Robert. Every word you say about Theodore R. Nat. Park is true. I was there early in the spring of 2016 with very few tourist. Thank you for walking some of the trails, I have "Elephant Man" leg condition and cannot walk far, so walking these areas through your eyes, very blessed.
Robert, you make it more beautiful than it is. Thank you for taking us with you on the visit. :) Industrial - yes, farming has made that transition in many places. But the vision of green or red or yellow machines against the background of fertile land and the toil of honest folks making food for people has a place in our world that deserves study, understanding and ultimately support.
I liked the way you quoted something from Paula Abdul in the middle of the Theodore Roosevelt Trail walk!! I know exactly what you mean with the pin drop sound in the Badlands.🏜
The Badlands are beautiful! I (Christy) had the opportunity to see them years ago while on a cross country trip with a friend. I can't wait for the day I can experience them with Corey! Thanks Robert!!
Wow, I have not seen your videos for about a year or more. You really upped your game. I was great to see the park. We only stop at the painted canyon rest area because it was cold and rainy. You made me want to take this route again and hope for a sunny day at TR NP.
Another great video Robert. I was at the Bad Lands many, many years ago, and after seeing this, I want to go back there again. Hey, your music is fantastic also.
I love TRNP! In my opinion, the wildlife and the badlands makes TRNP one of the more interesting parks in the country. The wildlife in TRNP is up there with parks like Yellowstone. The South Unit also has wild horses, which is a rare sight to see anywhere in the country. If you think badlands landscapes are interesting, and enjoy geology, then I would also highly recommend seeing Makoshika State Park in nearby Glendive, Montana. Glendive is less than an hour’s drive from the South Unit. Makoshika has a much different type of badlands landscape, including a spectacular and rare badlands natural bridge, which provides for a very scenic and interesting contrast to TRNP.
Just discovered your videos and love them. 1. You have a great "eye" and work is beautifully shot. 2. You have a great, soothing voice, so works great with your longer videos. 3. Background music is fun and non-intrusive. Loved Yellowstone and Grand Teton videos. Certainly one of the most spectacular National Parks and adjacent areas. Wildlife is what makes it stand out from others we have visited. Bison are just magnificent creatures - imagine 50 Million at one time across the western plains! Keep up the great work.
Robert, another great video! Thanks for posting the dates in your video and giving temperature and "bug" updates. Gives us an idea of when you were actually there and the conditions.
Brings back wonderful memories of my visit to the South Unit of TRNP, back in 06'. Still need to get to the North Unit and Elkhorn Ranch. Will return there, eventually.
This is an area I got to visit a couple of times as I grew up, but haven'r been out this way since 1997. Oh I love this--thank you so much for showing me this. Making my 2021 summer plans--gotta take my kids here!
It's in the middle of no where and you could honestly miss it easily, it's just flat lands than one turn and there it's kinda weird the first time you go there to see a hour of nothing but flat land than massive hills and valleys beautiful place though. Winters are horrible but if that's your thing you will love it!
Robert, your filming is fabulous. I always enjoy the way you film as you hike. It makes me feel as though I am hiking. My husband & I absolutely need to check out the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Thank you.
Howdy Robert, so glad to see this episode! When I was there the weather was horrible, there was rain and thunderstorms for two solid days. It's nice to see the place under sunny skies--love the expansive views. I definitely need to get back there soon. Oh, that one trail, "like Angels Landing"?...well, not quite, ha ha! Until next time, happy trails!
Robert you’re still the best for us! We have watched you and dreamed about going to the places you go! One day for sure! We’re so happy to be Pelican Heads! 🤙
This was the trip my son and I had planned to take this past summer as well, TRNP and then to Glacier, but the pandemic changed our plans. Thanks for the share, I actually look more forward to visiting the North Dakota badlands now!
Thank you for these videos. It allows me to travel and see places I probably never will. I must say, I would be scare of finding a snake hidden in those trails/rocks.
I accidentally found one of your videos the other day and started watching and I WAS HOOKED! I mean I can't stop watching. The views and you are perfect at everything you do to make the show just amazing 👏. I'll continue watching and keep up the good work! I'll be watching and joining the Pelican Heads soon (I know it's only $5 but I only use cash ) Anyway be safe driving and making the awesome videos. Good bye for now I'm just starting this video.
Hi Robert. I just recently found your videos. I love your commentary. You are very engaging. I will be visiting Roosevelt National Park in October-weather permitting. Thanks for the preview. Can’t wait to be in a bison jam!
Fantastic video! I have lived in ND all my life and.have not been to the park in years. Thanks for a new perspective on my state. I need to travel west again.
Well done Robert on the 2nd 1/2 of ND. Hope no Prairie Rattle Snakes were encountered while you were out on the trails. Hot August days they are everywhere in that area. I was hiking North Unit Ted Roosevelt years ago with my smaller size Cocker Spaniel and she was bitten and did not make it back. Was a sad day. Thanks for all your great videos.
I wrote to a North Dakota travel site and have already gotten a booklet. This will be our summer adventure. We live near Washignton DC so we will make plans to see thing along the way. Because of your vido we bought the Senior National Park Pass.
Wow I wake up to make myself a cup of Cuban coffee and this shows up another great episode of the Badlands the canyons are breathtaking thank you brother Robert for making my Sunday more exciting happy holidays to you and your wife:-)

Well I know our state doesn't have much to offer. But I am glad you had the chance to appreciate the quiet stillness of our state.
Amazing scenery in this part of North Dakota. And Robert is a true explorer after my own heart. Thanks for showing this.
Thanks for doing such a wonderful job of showing us the beautiful Badlands of North Dakota.
A fantastic film of a wonderful journey through amazing landscapes. The more I see of North Dakota, the madder the accusations of it being 'boring' seem, and the more I want to cross the Atlantic and experience it first hand.

Lol! That was a good one! 😀👍

Nd is the only state in the lower 48 I have not visited. The badlands will be on my road trip list this summer. Thanks for posting this video.
Also check out the underground burning coal out there. Another spot you think your on another planet.

I can visualize covered wagons Traveling west as you were hiking. Thanks for taking us on your hikes.
I really like it, it's deep America, the far West , in the middle of nature and far from the noise of cities
I may be only one person, but thank you for showcasing our state like this! If or when you decide to come through again, I greet you with open friendly arms. Maybe with a Kuchen in the fridge? lol

The perfect sound for videos. The music and lyrics are fantastic on the topic. Perfect your videos.
We loved our visit to the park. We spent quite a while watching the prairie dogs and bison. Actually had a bison walk right next to the car. I could have reached out and pet it from the passenger window. TRNP is a great place to see wildlife up close
Wonderful impressions from the Badlands. Thank you!
This is my favorite National Park, I'm so glad you were able to enjoy it!
I take it you haven't traveled much.
Doesn't matter how much I've traveled. That has no impact on why I love TRNP.
Well, Teddy Roosevelt National Park has officially made my bucket list. I would love to spend 4 days backpacking there. Awesome scenery.
I believe there is a campground but I don't know if they allow backpacking through it there is a lot of wolves.
@@GainingDespair what I’ve researched says they allow backpacking, but you have to pack in all your own water.
www.nps.gov/thro/planyourvisit/backcountry-camping.htm
The North Dakota badlands are one of my favorite places in the world. We spend a good portion of the fall hunting way back in the roadless!
Love this! One of my favorite videos of yours ever. Thank you for continuing to share your journeys with us!
Thank you, Sunday is off to an excellent start now! 👍😍💙
You’re reading my mind 😀👍
Fascinating scenery; had to pause your video and get a crash course of how the Badlands were formed.
Absolutely loved your video! We were there at the end of September and it was so windy so we didn't get to do much hiking. Standing up on the top Buck Hill was hard enough! Try attempting to view wildlife at dusk and dawn. You missed out on the Pronghorn, elk and bighorns.
I agree
Nice video. Im surprised you drove right past the biggest cow, right off of I-94 in new salem
All of the rock formations are amazing!!!
And spectacular clean clear sky!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for showcasing our state and the Badlands of ND. Awesome job!
Like Robert putting a sticker on each state he visits, I post on each episode I watch. Robert, you 'd man!
I love this! Every day I tell my husband where I have traveled with you. Next best thing to being there! Thank you!
This was a great video. I must admit, North Dakota was not high up on my list of states to visit. I look forward to visiting some day.
Medora campground is very unique view from the sky by the drone, well done brother Robert👍. The least visit state is a gem.💎
Absolutely loved it . You are a master narrator and I am addicted to the Travelling Robert videos. Thanks a ton.Stay safe and happy.
We only had a 1/2 day to explore in July 2020. We need to visit again and do some hiking.
Thank You Robert!
Wow, I have not seen your videos for about a year or more. You really upped your game. I was great to see the park. We only stop at the painted canyon rest area because it was cold and rainy. You made me want to take this route again and hope for a sunny day at TR NP.
Nice review of TRNP and Medora. I like that area too. You might also like the South Dakota Badlands area just south.
Took my first trip to Arizona because of your uploads thanks for sharing it motivates me to explore
Another great video Robert. I was at the Bad Lands many, many years ago, and after seeing this, I want to go back there again. Hey, your music is fantastic also.

dear Robert. I love all your adventures. how magnificent that you share your ready going passion for travel! fly, flamingo, Fly.!
Looked like another planet. So cool and beautiful. You showed it off really well. ❤
Robert, another great video! Thanks for posting the dates in your video and giving temperature and "bug" updates. Gives us an idea of when you were actually there and the conditions.
I get that same West feeling you get, Robert... I get it!
That was the perfect sheltering-in-place road trip! Thanks for another great travel experience!

Bison on the byway? What a great trip!
I must add that the scenery is beautiful .
Binge watching this whole section of episodes today. Great stuff Robert.
On our bucket list! Appreciate your videos such amazing scenery
This is like another planet know what I mean:-) it's so quiet you could hear a pin drop

I can tell that the road nomad is happy to ride his Rv

I've lived in north Dakota for 37 years and havent been any further west than valley city ,still dont plan on it
Fantastic video! I have lived in ND all my life and.have not been to the park in years. Thanks for a new perspective on my state. I need to travel west again.
Like to say literally it ‘s the northern desert . And a great sanctuary for wild animals especially bisons!! 🦬 😁 oh yes pretty prairie dogs as usual .
wow looks incredible, can't wait to start seeing these places in person
Absolutely beautiful! We watch on. 40in tv and I wish it was bigger!
Oh how sad for you Sir. So sorry about your Dog. Blessings.
I’ve been every where this man went even the back entrance of the park and all those roads the which I somewhat hunt but it’s cool swing this
I wrote to a North Dakota travel site and have already gotten a booklet. This will be our summer adventure. We live near Washignton DC so we will make plans to see thing along the way. Because of your vido we bought the Senior National Park Pass.
We went in 2019. Awesomely beautiful and near barren. We always look around to see if we see you on the road, when we are in our RV. Happy Travels.
It’s ironic. Another TH-camr I follow was just in the location you are. He uploaded his video yesterday. Thanks for taking us to some great location.
I watch him too.
