Just learned Zoids Wild has an Asian English dub! th-cam.com/video/XQJ4me9tciE/w-d-xo.html Just a heads-up, Asian-English dubs aren't known for their quality.
Kohdok, I personally liked the Zoid Genesis. Even if u dislike it. That is one of the series why I still own a Zoid model from 15 years ago ish. I love the romance aspect even though it really has not been touched haha. Btw u might be a weee but biased in this video. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like I am biased as well towards my fave animes
Zoids Chaotic had a great story and soundtrack. It’s nice to see someone remember forgotten series like this, Ronin Warriors, Monster Rancher, Medabots, Wulin Warriors, Knights of the Zodiac, etc. It’s a shame that some great series from our childhood just get forgotten and unnoticed as time moves forward. I tip my hat 🎩 to you Kohdak, be the keeper of the lost anime/cartoon series.
What I find a crying shame is that there are so many great already dubbed series that don't get shown anymore, yet current day cartoons suck for the most part. Just re-air the old shows for new generations.
Loved your vid man. Lemme share something as an X-Xebec employee. I moved to Tokyo to work for them roughly 10 years(I think...) after Zoids Chaotic Century and GF came out. But I was able to meet Takako Kato and work under him for a time on a different project. I found out that the name of the organoids (other than Zeke) which were Ambiet, Specula(r) and Shadow. I'm sure you know who these names belong to, had an interesting story behind them. Zoids was one of Xebec's first attempts to move from traditional 2D only animation to bringing in 3D Animation into their projects. During that time, Softimage 3D was their tool of choice - and the names of the organoids I mentioned, were taken from the different parts of the shader (Diffuse, Ambient, Specular and Shadow). What amazed me about this revelation, was that the script was written at a time when 3D was sort of a new thing, and the writers saw fit to include this small nod / reference to the tech they were using as part of the story.
never let my dad near them as he was way to rough and would try to force things together thus breaking them so yeah he sat in a corner whilst i made them :) Those where the days
Somebody talking about Zoids Chaotic Century in 2019??? It's beautiful *sobs* Seriously, Zoids is one of my most favorite franchises. And I've been collecting the model kits since the old Toonami days. I remember being 10 or so and being absolutely mesmerized by the zoids' animations and designs. In fact, I went so far as to cosplay the Schneider at Otakon this year lol
Must've looked ridiculous with 5 blades on your back. Haven't done it yet, but you think making a white cat cosplay one of the Liger Zero models is plausible? Tail tip will probably be avoided as all cats seem to get irritated when there's something preventing or making difficult the tail's full range of motion.
That was a dope rpg and you get your own organoid. Which I turn black plus you can pilot any of them. Even though you get bonuses if you pilot the type of zoid your good at.
I've always been that one weird guy bringing up a show people hardly remember... until they see my office wall filled with models."Ohhh shit I remember these!". Have every series (minus wild) on my plex server.
I remember watching this as a kid on toonami back in 2000. I loved the show so much i wanted to get the dvd set for my anime collection. Over the years I've been trying to track down the dvd set and no luck! And after 20 years later and going through different websites and searching countless hours lol I've finally found it! On bluray. I gotta say the struggle looking for the set was a pain
wild is meh!! wild 0 on the other hand is much much better; cause the differences in the zoids can be explained by explaining the setting of the anime.
I missed most of Toonami's early run and came in during the time that Choatic Century and G Gundam were running. Good memories from the early days when I was really getting into mecha anime.
One of the things I liked about Guardian Force was that the Death Stinger actually felt like a villain that was a massively credible threat to the protagonists at the end of their journey. Something that couldn't just be stopped by a last minute power up or some hidden potential. The good guys had to build their *own superweapon* just to have a shot at beating the villain, which even fails to kill the bad guy...three times! That's like, unheard of for bad guys to be that damned durable. It made the final defeat of the Death Stinger actually cathartic. Oh, yeah, and all the other stuff you said about the first part was totally on point too. It was an interesting take for a 'war' anime.
I grew up watching this as a kid, Every moment before I went to school. And now year later, Seeing this review makes me not only want to watch it again, It gives me more of a appreciation for it.
i love ZOIDS: Chaotic Century a little more than Century Zero. it had a better storyline featuring the zoids rather than a combat game driven scenario. one of the few things i liked about Zero was the interchangeable armor...but even that, too became a bit annoying. i wasn't able to get the complete series on dvd, but a good friend and fellow college buddy, had both series as digital downloads and they are as clear and sharp as ever. i regularly rewatch them from time to time as it is truly one of the great masterpieces ever done in anime.
I rewatch both series once a year, just feels like comfy and cozy series before bed. It's a great story with loveable characters and a sweet futuristic concept of combat skill.
watched a couple episodes on Zoids wild that was airing locally here in my country, its basically your protagonist going on a trip recruiting partners along the way, every episode feature how each of them unlock their "glowing blue fire on the left side of the eye" powerup move(reminds me of sans's glowing eye thing) and leading up to defeating a villian group which also has a "glowing red fire on the right side of the eye" powerup for their own "evil zoids" its your typical shonen jump-inspired anime I guess.
They took a series that had cool stories and pilot-able machines and turned it into a stupid shonen where they rode them and I'm guessing used special powers and shouted their attacks. Wild can burn
Konig Wolf is awesome, but I have a question for you other owners: Those weird flexible pieces that jut out of the armor, did they stay intact for you guys? Mine all snapped lol
I swear, I feel like chaotic Century partially inspired Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans with the post war setting and the somewhat dessert environment the show initially starts in as well as ancient yet destructive machines waiting to be discovered definitely reminds those who've seen a certain part of the 2nd season of IBO of something
I'm surprised to hear that Guardian Force was 'worse' than Chaotic Century, since my opinion is actually the opposite. I love and adore both, but Van spends pretty much the entirety of Chaotic Century jobbing every single fight he's in, and being an incompetent pilot who manages to luck his way into every single victory. Even the final battle with the Genosaurer is basically him plot-armoring his way through the Charged Particle Beam for no other reason than, cool anime scene. But then comes Guardian Force where suddenly, every single hyped up feature of Van is actually TRUE and REAL. He's a competent pilot who calculates his way through battles, executes on those strategies, and is actually really engaging and fun to watch. He's so much better of a protagonist in GF because he still has his high morals and beliefs from CC, but none of the naivete that carried with him, so he's actually able to accomplish his goals, improve everyone's character, and save the day in the end. Maybe the plot overall was a little weaker, but it was SO much more enjoyable to watch because Van was so much better of a character. (And I really like Hiltz, but can understand why you didn't) Also I really enjoyed the power of the 'Super' Zoids at the end. There really were no prolonged battles until then, and the sheer power and scale of them called for power levels unlike anything we'd seen before. And the Deathsaurer that was made for the end of CC was a weak imitation, where as at the end, this Deathsaurer was the real thing and truly unstoppable. The first one made you wonder how something like that could cause the apocalypse, where as the REAL Deathsaurer, there was never any question. THAT could annihilate the entire world without stopping. And even then, it does feel like it's beaten a bit with plot armor, but nowhere near the levels it took to stop the Genosaurer. I've always watched CC as an enjoyable prelude to GF, that its interesting themes are a little downplayed by how obnoxious the characters can be at times, but makes sense once you get into GF and suddenly all of their characters made sense to get them to this point where now they're fully and completely amazing to watch. And this was a sentiment shared by my friends when we watched it together for the first time, especially since they were New Century Zero fans first. I absolutely adored this recap and agree that both are fantastic, I was just surprised to hear that GF wasn't as well liked by you, and wanted to share my own take on why I loved it more than CC! Fantastic video either way, thank you for the nostalgia trip!
I agree as well. I love both, but there is just something about the execution of season 2 -- the stakes, the characters, the consequences, the complete lack of "luck" that seems to get Van through every major fight in the first season -- that sells season 2 more for me. My ONE complaint about season 2 (seriously...this is the only thing I don't like about season 2), is that Zeke was such an important CHARACTER in season 1, and in season 2 he's basically nothing more than a plot device. But other than that season 2 is perfect. Loved it.
Yeah I’m rewatching for the first time in years and I’m definitely more invested in the second season. I like how it keeps switching between three vastly different villains it keeps things interesting. The first season felt like half of it was just filler beating the enemy of the week. Plus I found first season Van really irritating. And I think I prefer Hiltz. He’s such an evil slimeball while Prozen acted like an over the top comic book villain.
,not it wasn't plot armour , that battle against the geno Saurer was a prelude to explain why he was able of beating the Death saurer clon ( even DR D explained this himself by the Blade vibrations)
@@dejadejod3rYT Pulling out an ability that hadn't been hinted at or shown prior to one of the final confrontations in the show (especially the final confrontation with the rival) IS plot armor. Especially when Van got blasted in the face with the most powerful weapon in the show and literally just shrugged it off because of said new ability. It shouldn't have worked but it did, thus, Plot Armor.
Zoids Chaotic Century was my fave along with the guardian force sequel as well (can’t remember the name) Loved the story, soundtrack and humour too! Don’t get cartoons like that anymore
Heck yes! This is what got me to really pay attention to Japanese anime back when I was a kid! Thank you for "spreading the gospel" :D And yes, the CGI they were able to produce 20 years ago for Chaotic Century is mind-blowing, and still better than so many current anime. I definitely must rewatch it soon!
We got chaotic Century first along with guardian force before new century, so here in the Philippines making people remember Zoids means using Blade Liger as a frame of reference. The name lights a light bulb :).
That's funny, when I'd tell people about Zoids here in the states. I'd have to describe it as Gundam but the robots are animals. Then the little light bulb would come on.
I loved chaotic century. One of my favorite anime series of any type. If anyone reading this is on the fence about watching it just jump right in. It's a fun series and this video will probably persuade me to check out the other series
I loved Chaotic Century, it's my favourite anime ever. When the battle victory music kicks in I always get goosebumps. Unfortunately it's really hard to get dvd's of it in the UK without getting a region free dvd player
I absolutely loved Zoids when I was a kid, man the nostalgia. I remember my favorite was Elephander in New Century and I was surprised how good Chaotic Century ended up being. It was really good with a lot of great Zoid designs. I recently found my Nightwise and Megaleon in storage. Such great designs, it's such a shame they didn't get any screen time.
10/10 nostalgia. I always sing moonbay's song terribly on long drives. This show was/is SO underrated. The characters are so varied and amazing. Thanks for making this video, I hope others see it and go back to watch/rewatch the series and it gets the love it deserves. HMM is re-releasing lots of kits in the coming months. hlj.com has them on pre-order!
I’ve watched pretty much every mainstream anime and chaotic century is the only anime I’ve watched through many times. It’s so underrated. I think it would be more popular if there was actually somewhere to watch it. The comedic relief is gold lol😂
I adore Zoids. Not only because it was the first anime I ever watched, But more importantly it was one of the first things that let me actually bond with my Dad when I was a kid. We've always been night and day (and by that I mean our personalities and interests are almost 1-1 mirror opposites of each other...it actually gets a little freaky at times how exact it is) but if there was ever one thing we could always agree on, it would be that giant robot lions are awesome!!
Thank you for putting Zoids CC up on the pedestal that it deserves. It was one of the better shows to air on Cartoon Network back in the day. You forgot to mention how much better it was than Zero just for the fact it didn't have Inuyasha's voice actor yelling 15 times per episode.
This video makes me happy. Loved this series and definitely one of my favorite animes! Next time I'm home I'm going to have to dig out my zoids and see what I've got left! I do love GF just as much as CC though. I remember waiting for those final four episodes of GF and didn't mind that we got the "real" death saurer. I thought Hiltz's endgame, Fiona's dilemma, Raven's turn, and Van being Van made for a great conclusion.
Decided to search for chaotic century content on a whim and I wanted to say thank you very much! Your enthusiasm and love for the franchise and toys/models is palpable. Cheers!
I love Vann and Fiona, I watched every episode when I was a kid. The first season is definitely the best Zoids, but the sequel at least wasn't complete shit, the full cast returned.
Wow. I did not know the dub was technically "heavily edited." They made it seem so seamless. I never questioned it at all. I always thought it was near uncut. Great video!
I loved zoids unfortunately as a kid I only ever got maybe 5-6 kits since my grandpa hated building them for me. I still have the alligator and the turtle zoid upstairs on my shelf i know I also owned a raptor and a spinosaurus? But idk where the others are I was a child. I have bought 3 of the higher class kits and the turtle zoids wild kit and it’s so fun and cool. I miss the show and I wish more shows like these and stuff could come I to the modern ages in America. I’d love to share more of it with my nephew.
Does anyone else remember when the last four episodes DIDN'T air and we were left thinking the D-Bison was gonna get smoked, and then a year later, Chaotic Century aired in the morning so we got to see the ending?
Rumor has it that one of the voice actors from New Century Zero mentioned about the English dub of Zoids Genesis being "mostly done" until its sudden cancellation after Fuzors aired (for obvious reasons). Anyway, fun fact: the Zoids designs were one of the main inspirations to how the machines look in the Horizon Zero Dawn game. If you haven't played it but have a PS4, I highly recommend checking it out.
That rumour sounds like someone's fantasy. Fuzors ended more than a year before Genesis started in Japan. Genesis was also dubbed in its entirety ... in the United States, so the cast from the earlier three shows wasn't involved. The dub only aired on CN Asia.
Zoids was honestly one of the big things to get me into the early anime scene and model scene. The original name for this TH-cam channel was zoidsfan12 where as a middle schooler I was uploading videos of me playing zoids games. (Which if you look back to early TH-cam is pretty much what everyone was doing, there wasn't really any big content creators to give inspiration so everyone just made videos about shit they were passionate about. I kind of miss those greener more pure times where everything was kinda shit, but now instead of infinite hours of people rambling into mics over gameplay footage, it's endless hours of people making constructed rants over gameplay footage....wait a second)
Oooh boy, ive tried many times to recommend Zoids Chaotic Century to many friends, my personal favorite nostalgic show! I used to watch it every day after 3rd grade, true childhood memories.
Oh lord... I was so into this when it came out. Followed the anime to (which was then done by the now closed Xebec Animation Studio in Tokyo. Ended up working for them as an animator from 2008 - 2010)
straight up, your passion for this show was clearly visible. and your enthusiasm as the show progressed made me relive those memories as a kid. thank you!
You throw shade at the Death Stinger, but I see it there with your other models! Also, Hiltz's end game was the complete genocide of humanity on Planet Zi.
A thought I had about the movement of the zoids, As you said, sometimes they can look a bit clunky, but to be honest, that makes sense because they ARE mechanical. so it would be strange if they were about to move as smoothly as an organic being. Just a thought.
I liked Hiltz as a villain. Haven't watched the show since I was a kid but, if i remember correctly, wasn't his motive to resurrect the ancient zoidian society (and rule over it). That makes sense to me as the modern day humans are basically an invasive species in planet zi. While the death stinger is a lame name, I do like how it's a seemingly unstoppable force that appears while the guardian force is struggling against a lesser seemingly unstoppable force in raven's geno breaker. It does seem hopeless at times for the good guys and I think that's good writing as opposed to the typically anime trope of good guy gets beaten up but powers up at the end of a fight for reasons and defeats the foe.
Yeah ,hilltz wanted his Ancient Civilization Back Ruling over them and exterminating Human existence from Zi . My fav thing about him is how he just Destroyed so many places Van and his Friends were in the past . It just shows what kind of a Villain he is. He didn't need to talk about his past or whatever. He was about actions. Despising Humans and all of what made them be one. ( love. Partnership ect ect)
Funny enough in Latin America we got chaotic century first without censorship and it was amazing! Since then although i really like some of the other seasons nothing quite manages to reach that level. Blade liger will always be my favorite
I love Zoids Chaotic Century! I own all of that series on DVD. He said it was a lot of money and he's not wrong. I spent quite a pretty penny to own them.
great art, great action, great story, and I crushed hard on Moonbay. Thanks for this analysis vid! I learned that the 3D animation (along with the toon shader) was all thanks to 3d rendering software called Lightwave3D, on the Commodore Amiga computers (a platform that still has a loyal following of fans who keep it alive even though the mismanaged computer brand went out of business ages ago). Lightwave was way ahead of its time and originally came bundled with a piece of hardware called the Video Toaster, which made a commodore Amiga into a video-studio-in-a-box, a true revolution at a time when video transitioned from analog to digital. This was also an era when pro 3d rendering was only really accessible to people with very deep pockets for SGI (silicon graphics) computers. This represented the ability for someone to do pro graphics on a desktop. What a time. Zoids is kind of a marker for all that.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane! Excellent work with the music placement choices throughout this one - gee this series had some fantastic action tracks!
In my household, you either woke up early enough to catch Zoids, or you woke up late and we’re punished with Captain Planet as a reminder that you missed Zoids and Transformers Armada.
I noticed you have a dvd of Outlaw Star preceding your Zoids dvd collection. Kudos man, Outlaw Star and Zoids were the only two anime I could ever get into back at the late 90s and early 2000s. I even got the blue-ray collection set for Outlaw Star. Here's to hoping that Takara Tomy or Hasbro might ever release a blue-ray of the original Zoids series, New Century and Chaotic Century.
I've been rewatching Chaotic Century over the past few days, as I do every couple years. It was always fun watching it before school, watching as it cycled on syndication, constantly getting close to the end.... and then restarting -.- When they announced they had the final four episodes I made damn sure to tape them so I'd always be able to watch them. It's such a well written series, the soundtrack is great, the english dub's decent at worst, great at its best points. I'm so glad I had this as part of my childhood. Gotta admit, I don't get what you mean about Genesis being pretentious. I actually liked it more than NC0; I thought it was a great return to the themes and style of Chaotic Century. It wasn't all just a sport, it was back to being real combat with real stakes, a tale of war. While it's far from perfect (I think the pacing has some real issues and there's areas where I would absolutely change the structure of events) it's still really enjoyable in my opinion. Could you explain your views on it? Also having recently finished Zoids Wild on Dailymotion... I was able to enjoy it as long as I thought of it as a completely separate saturday morning anime that just happened to have the Zoids title. The show itself has basically nothing to do with any of the established lore, the scale is completely different, the fights are different (almost nothing has ranged weapons, they're ridden rather than piloted), the tone is goofier and more laid back than even NC0.. I could go on. It's fun for what it is, but I wouldn't really call it Zoids. Hopefully Wild Zero ends up being better, I hear they got some of the older writers back for that one and plan to have it be more connected with the existing lore.
Oh man the nostalgia. This cartoon is my fave and I still rewatch it at least once a year. I used to own a Helcat and Pterasaur when I was a kid. Glad your video came across my recommendations
I love the zoids series. Watched every single one of them when they originally aired. The cell shading works incredible. Especially with robots, with the angular designs. I didn't mind that they moved kinda clunky, because a lot of them were pretty bulky looking, so the way they moved really just looked right. Chaotic century was definitely my favorite.
Here in the UK, Zoids was broadcast in production order, so I was sorely disappointed by New Century after the masterpiece that came before (Tournament anime are ten a penny !). I had a Zoids 2 (European Release) Ultrasaurus kit from the end of the chromed up European line and when we got Sky TV, I found the anime and was very impressed. Guardian Force was decent enough, nothing can beat seeing my Zoid on TV! I managed to gather a good collection of kits from discount chains and toystore clearance. Finding an anime Gustav was the highlight during that period of toy hunting. Then I started onto Ebay and online shopping, so I rounded my collection with a 10th anniversary Shield Liger, a Blade Liger (Super awesome Zoid) and the HMM Zaber Tiger Schwarz. Looking forward to watching and building some Zoids Wild.
to actually find new content on a series i adored and collected kits since childhood is honestly amazing and i cant tell you how happy just seeing this pop up in my recommendeds made me
I bet you can guess where the "Raven" in my username comes from. I absolutely adore Zoids, right from the first episode of New Century. I had concerns about Chaotic when it came later, knowing how different the feel was gonna be, ended up falling in love with it even moreso. What an amazing series.
1:59 That Hasbro Lighting Saix came with the CP-16 Zoids Controller from the Zoids Customize Parts line and was an exclusive to Toysrus back in the day.
Excellent video, it really hit on what I've loved about Zoids since I was a kid. I still have my collection of models sitting in my closet, waiting until I have the space to display them again. The fact that there's a new series and the HMM line is still going kind of makes me happy... but it's just not the same. I miss the old motorized kits. Gotta correct you on one thing, though. Mechabonica was a short-lived line from 1981, with only three models. They were released in the US as "Zoids: The Pre-Hysterical Monster Machines". Japan adopted the "Zoids" name for the more successful 1983 relaunch, which is where the Battle Story took off and they started adding more interesting models. ...Excuse my nerding, I'm a bit of a historian when it comes to this franchise. :)
I haven’t seen Chaotic Century in so long, and (admittedly) never saw all the episodes, but this was an excellent nostalgia trip. Thanks for the great video! :D
What? People think that there is a better mascot for the series than the Shield/Blade Liger? (Great video man! Zoids Chaotic Century is easily one of the best toy commercials ever)
I lived in Japan when Chaotic century aired on tv, getting the remote control pack for death stinger was hilarious, even if it wasnt true remote control
Zoids is one of those shows that I remember only bits and pieces of. I didn't even remember the name of the show or what it was about other than animal mechs. Also as it turns out, I just so happen to have the cockpit from one of those worm zoids. I always wondered where it came from, but after watching this video I remember owning one of the worms at some point. So thanks, this marks the second old thing from my childhood that I've rediscovered within the past few days. The other was Godzilla Final Wars that I rediscovered from Brandon's Cult movie reviews.
I never saw this version of Zoids, but about the computer animation. I remember back in the day thinking it looked very cartoony and stuck out a lot. But seeing it again, it does look a lot better than I remember. I miss being young. :P
I just finished rewatching the guardian force series last weekend. Its cool finding out its on its 20th anniversary. I wish i had kept all my old zoids models from my childhood.
This show is amazing I loved it so much I even buy a Blade Liger and Irvine is my fave character and his Command Wolf IR is just awesome but I liked the fact that he pilots a Shadow Fox on ZOIDS Legacy on GBA after you encounter them again on Dome Island battles
I watched a few episodes as a kid and always wondered about this show. I recently watched it all and wasn't disappointed. You're right about the graphics they hold up great for the most part. The end of the show kinda reminds me of Star Wars episode 7 and the Death Star as well.
I own the ZCC dvds, and I just started watching it again with my kids earlier this week. So much fun! And, like you said, it has just enough to keep adults keyed in while it has enough flashy colors and explosions to keep my boys enthralled, all while avoiding anything gory. Love it.
I was rather surprised to see this pop up on my front page. Been a long time since I thought about Zoids...Think Blockbusters were still around when I rented that gamecube game...Or maybe it was looking at the few models I had in a box in storage. Saw all the episodes of the first 3, & part of Fuzors before they pulled it off the air without repeats. Was nice to remember my high school days watching the show.
The character progression in Chaotic Century was fantastic, and most easily seen with how Van progresses as a pilot. At the start, he's using Zeke for literally everything. He can't even take on minor bandits with low grade Zoids without him. Then he starts encountering professional soldiers with mid-range Zoids, and more often than not it's a draw and often because of other happenings. This starts indicating to Van about his reliance. Then comes Raven. He's got an organoid too, but he doesn't even bother using it to effortlessly demolish Van, which is the final catalyst for Van to really focus of learning how to control a high performance Zoid without being reliant on Zeke. So as the series progresses, he does become less reliant, still regularly using Zeke, but less and less, to the point that he eventually can defeat Raven with Shadow and without Zeke, completely flipping their original dynamic. From there he goes on to do military training to polish his skills further. Its a great progression, and feels way better than 'Kid gets giant top end robot. Instantly beats everyone else with giant robot just because' that Gundam and Zoids Genesis suffered severely from. The Organoids was a fantastic plot device to help with that (and Zeke was just an amazing character to boot).
Van never defeated Raven without Zeke . What are you saying?? Even worse , Raven with a Dark horn outperform Van fused with Zeke.. and After van Training for 2 years Raven proved why he was the better pilot at that time Kicking his ass with his Geno Saurer.. Van at the end proved he's an specialist and had a strong conection with his Zoid ( that's why his miracles against Hiltz and Death Saurer) buut A battle against Raven will always be a toss up .
Holy crap, completely forgot about Zeke the upgrade raptor that was a literal blast from the past. Seeing him once unlocked a ton of memories all of a sudden
I saw Zoids first, then Chaotic Century! They are very underrated shows!! The Elephander is my favorite Zoid! I love elephants, wooly mammoths and mastodons!!
Just learned Zoids Wild has an Asian English dub!
th-cam.com/video/XQJ4me9tciE/w-d-xo.html
Just a heads-up, Asian-English dubs aren't known for their quality.
I feel bad for saying this but I don’t like chaotic century as much as new century zero.
Hehe, funny fact: Kohdok means frog here in Indonesia.
Great vid, i still have Liger Zero sitting next to my Freedom Gundam.
Just listened to a few minutes of that dub. Sound ok for an Asian English dub. It sounds better than the dub Build Fighters got.
Hehe, American english dub wasn't that much better. But it was still awesome to watch back then 👍
I remember waking up early before school to watch this anime at 6am.
Same here! :)
💯
Yuuuuuup
Glad to hear I wasnt the only child to use to do this.
Facts💯
Zoids Chaotic had a great story and soundtrack. It’s nice to see someone remember forgotten series like this, Ronin Warriors, Monster Rancher, Medabots, Wulin Warriors, Knights of the Zodiac, etc. It’s a shame that some great series from our childhood just get forgotten and unnoticed as time moves forward. I tip my hat 🎩 to you Kohdak, be the keeper of the lost anime/cartoon series.
You know what knights of zodiak or saint seiya is still going strong to this day in japan
Holy shit. Ronin Warriors. I haven't thought about that show since 98 at the very least.
Oh no no not Monster Rancher.. the ending...
@@GenJuhru I dont think i ever saw the end of that, but we did have it, i remember watching it, Monster Rancher
What I find a crying shame is that there are so many great already dubbed series that don't get shown anymore, yet current day cartoons suck for the most part. Just re-air the old shows for new generations.
The scene when Shield Liger rebirth into Blade Liger still make me shiver till today.
IT'S AWESOME!!!!
@Max Tan I STILL tell my friends about that scene
that day I became a man
Yeah that Blade Liger was awesome.
Eat your heart out, Z-Day.
Yup, even got the blade liger myself.
That's actually really neat! I did commend the shaders used in the 3D, so that makes it even better!
I loved Zoids as a kid and built them with my dad. Chaotic Century rocked!
never let my dad near them as he was way to rough and would try to force things together thus breaking them so yeah he sat in a corner whilst i made them :) Those where the days
So did i lol
@@polarisraven5613 I would love to see a well done quadsuit
Zoids Legacy for GBA is still one of my favorite games of my childhood
That was a dope rpg and you get your own organoid. Which I turn black plus you can pilot any of them. Even though you get bonuses if you pilot the type of zoid your good at.
I've always been that one weird guy bringing up a show people hardly remember... until they see my office wall filled with models."Ohhh shit I remember these!". Have every series (minus wild) on my plex server.
I used Zoids for my screen name and email lol
I miss these, Zoids Wild doesn't count.
Waking up to watch at 7am as a kid before school. As an adult Named my dog zeke. Because of chaotic century.
SAME
I missed most of Toonami's early run and came in during the time that Choatic Century and G Gundam were running.
The death stinger wasn't actually defeated, it just died to resurrect the death saurer.
I grew up watching this as a kid, Every moment before I went to school. And now year later, Seeing this review makes me not only want to watch it again, It gives me more of a appreciation for it.
Agreed.
i love ZOIDS: Chaotic Century a little more than Century Zero. it had a better storyline featuring the zoids rather than a combat game driven scenario. one of the few things i liked about Zero was the interchangeable armor...but even that, too became a bit annoying. i wasn't able to get the complete series on dvd, but a good friend and fellow college buddy, had both series as digital downloads and they are as clear and sharp as ever. i regularly rewatch them from time to time as it is truly one of the great masterpieces ever done in anime.
I rewatch both series once a year, just feels like comfy and cozy series before bed. It's a great story with loveable characters and a sweet futuristic concept of combat skill.
The voice actor for Raven and Raven in general is one of my favorite antagonistic characters of all time despite how simple he is in context
But well executed., something i can't say about Sasuke
@@aaa-bm1fv DAMNNN STRAIGHT BOIIII
watched a couple episodes on Zoids wild that was airing locally here in my country, its basically your protagonist going on a trip recruiting partners along the way, every episode feature how each of them unlock their "glowing blue fire on the left side of the eye" powerup move(reminds me of sans's glowing eye thing) and leading up to defeating a villian group which also has a "glowing red fire on the right side of the eye" powerup for their own "evil zoids"
its your typical shonen jump-inspired anime I guess.
The shonen part pisses me off. This was never what Zoids was.
@@genobreaker1054
The villians were all like if Mad-max was a kids show I guess? or if they all wore clown make up in a mad-max get-up lol..
@@NCHProductions ew.
Yeah Zoids Wild was pure disappointment. Honestly, the anime series have been going down in quality since Zero and Chaotic Century, sadly -_-
They took a series that had cool stories and pilot-able machines and turned it into a stupid shonen where they rode them and I'm guessing used special powers and shouted their attacks. Wild can burn
The Konig Wolf was and still is my favorite of the old models that I had.
I second that. I even managed to get the CP-21 Dual Sniper Rifles for mine - sits proudly on my shelf next to a Liger Zero Schnieder
@@jonadamson1201 Same story, except mine sits next to a fire phoenix.
Konig Wolf is awesome, but I have a question for you other owners:
Those weird flexible pieces that jut out of the armor, did they stay intact for you guys? Mine all snapped lol
@@genobreaker1054 Mine hasn't moved since it was assembled so its fine.
Raven is still my favourite character even after all these years and multiple rewatches xD
(And I really like Hiltz, but can understand why you didn't)
Also I really enjoyed the power of the 'Super' Zoids at the end.
Fantastic video either way, thank you for the nostalgia trip!
agreed!!!!!!
He’s such an evil slimeball while Prozen acted like an over the top comic book villain.
,not it wasn't plot armour , that battle against the geno Saurer was a prelude to explain why he was able of beating the Death saurer clon
( even DR D explained this himself by the Blade vibrations)
@@dejadejod3rYT Pulling out an ability that hadn't been hinted at or shown prior to one of the final confrontations in the show (especially the final confrontation with the rival) IS plot armor.
Especially when Van got blasted in the face with the most powerful weapon in the show and literally just shrugged it off because of said new ability. It shouldn't have worked but it did, thus, Plot Armor.
Zoids Chaotic Century was my fave along with the guardian force sequel as well (can’t remember the name)
Loved the story, soundtrack and humour too!
Every couple years I come back to Chaotic Century. In terms of anime created to sell toys, this is my all time favorite.
Zoids Chaotic Century is actually what gave me my favorite name "Zeke" or Ezekial which I fully intend to give to my first child. Lol
We got chaotic Century first along with guardian force before new century, so here in the Philippines making people remember Zoids means using Blade Liger as a frame of reference. The name lights a light bulb :).
Same in Latin America lol
That's funny, when I'd tell people about Zoids here in the states. I'd have to describe it as Gundam but the robots are animals. Then the little light bulb would come on.
I loved chaotic century. One of my favorite anime series of any type.
If anyone reading this is on the fence about watching it just jump right in.
It's a fun series and this video will probably persuade me to check out the other series
28 years old and i still get chills from the deathsaurer theme ❤
It just has a charm that most animes are missing. The characters have a good chemistry. It’s my favorite anime.
Miss you dad
Always loved raven, his organoid, and the geno breaker is my favorite zoid EVER
Agreed!
Agreed , he's the best character so far
Decided to search for chaotic century content on a whim and I wanted to say thank you very much! Your enthusiasm and love for the franchise and toys/models is palpable.
Cheers!
I love Vann and Fiona, I watched every episode when I was a kid. The first season is definitely the best Zoids, but the sequel at least wasn't complete shit, the full cast returned.
Wow. I did not know the dub was technically "heavily edited." They made it seem so seamless. I never questioned it at all. I always thought it was near uncut. Great video!
Still by far, one of my favorite animes of all time! Thanks for the video!
I remember going to my Friend's house and I immediately geeked out when I saw his Zoids Collection. The Model Kits were as good as Gunpla honestly.
I watched Zoids New Century when it was first airing in America, and remembering it now, I think I'll watch the whole series soon.
Lived in Singapore, grew up on this show in the 2003-2006 era and God it is nice to see someone talk about how great it really was
Zoids Genesis is so much like WW2 in it's approach to war and it's Dynamics bit cc and Genesis did a phenomenal portrayal.
"And the sound of screaming children." *Laughes in pre-Cell Gohan*
Rumor has it that one of the voice actors from New Century Zero mentioned about the English dub of Zoids Genesis being "mostly done" until its sudden cancellation after Fuzors aired (for obvious reasons).
Anyway, fun fact: the Zoids designs were one of the main inspirations to how the machines look in the Horizon Zero Dawn game. If you haven't played it but have a PS4, I highly recommend checking it out.
Knowing that about Zero Dawn warms my heart!
Ended up working for them as an animator from 2008 - 2010)
straight up, your passion for this show was clearly visible. and your enthusiasm as the show progressed made me relive those memories as a kid. thank you!
Ah Zoids. How much I loved New Century. I still have all the kits I could find, my crown jewel being the Shadow Fox.
( love. Partnership ect ect)
mate! you deserve absolute praise for this video! it was so well worded and just hit the mark with every argument that you gave! brilliant work
Funny enough in Latin America we got chaotic century first without censorship and it was amazing! Since then although i really like some of the other seasons nothing quite manages to reach that level. Blade liger will always be my favorite
I love Zoids Chaotic Century!
I own all of that series on DVD. He said it was a lot of money and he's not wrong. I spent quite a pretty penny to own them.
I had completely forgotten this show existed! I loved it as a kid.
great art, great action, great story, and I crushed hard on Moonbay.
Zoids: Chaotic Century is my all time favorite anime ever and I miss it and wish i could find it streaming somewhere 😫
Great video. Yeah I loved this show growing up. Waking up mornings to go to school I'd always catch this show ❤
You are clearly a true fan it shows. I appreciate your enthusiasm and passion.
Zoids Chaotic Century is my personal favorite too.
Glad someone talked about this series that basically made my childhood, ya earn a subscription dude
I just found a death saurer go on for sale. Got now I'm waiting. Perfect for my birthday.
Congrats!
Awesome! It doesn't seem like they have rereleased Death Saurer so nice work finding one
Berserker fury was just insane to watch as a kid, but deathsaurs theme was just immense.
Death Saurer's theme was one I spent DAYS looking for on the internet.
Wow you hit most of my thoughts on Zoids as whole in this video. Great video. -RPZ41
I haven’t seen Chaotic Century in so long, and (admittedly) never saw all the episodes, but this was an excellent nostalgia trip.
Thanks for the great video! :D
Thank you for making this, you made this 26 year old very happy
What? People think that there is a better mascot for the series than the Shield/Blade Liger?
(Great video man! Zoids Chaotic Century is easily one of the best toy commercials ever)
I still have all my zoid figures. I liked how you can take them apart and put them back together unlike other models.
Thank you so much for making a vid about chaotic century! It's practically my childhood. I didnt even know new century came before chaotic century.
Love it.
Great video! Nice to see Zoids get the love it deserves! Can't believe it's been 20 years...
I have a ton of Zoids. It was really popular in my school. I also have the Gamecube game, which is surprisingly wicked good! Love Chaotic Century.
It's nice to see someone doing a long video acknowledging zoid's greatness. So Underrated.
Holy crap, completely forgot about Zeke the upgrade raptor that was a literal blast from the past. Seeing him once unlocked a ton of memories all of a sudden
Awesome video dude! Exactly what I was looking for about this childhood favourite. Thanks very much for your work.
I saw Zoids first, then Chaotic Century! They are very underrated shows!! The Elephander is my favorite Zoid! I love elephants, wooly mammoths and mastodons!!
zoids was one of my favorites, chatotic century also being my favorite
