I’m a newcomer to sneakers. I live in South Northants and found out about Crown Northampton from your site. Go figure!
Anyway I went up to the factory in July with my son to get a pair for his birthday and came away with a pair myself. Chris, the owner, is trying to hold it together through Covid19 and distributes the work out to his staff to work from home during this difficult times.
I now have two pairs and love the workmanship. Great to see a good review from Rose Anvil too. It’s well deserved.
Great craftsmanship should always be celebrated. Enough said.

Completely came across their brand by accident after watching rose anvil. Do you know if thet have a show room where you can try on the trainers for size? Hoping I can pay a visit after lock down.
I'm not into trainers/sneakers, but I'm born and raised in Northampton so it's good to see shoemaking branching out into casual shoes. They should offer a shoe in vegano with custom patina, they'd do incredibly well as there's nothing like it on the market
Received a pair of Upton Wholecut TL (White) last week here in the USA. Very impressed also with the workmanship and really like them. Just ordered another Upton Wholecut with horween leather.

let me second your emotion. after your first video I bought in on the white whole-cuts. they are everything you say and more. Mark in customer service was extremely patient and helpful. most times I am large of foot and wide. Mark's advice and their "G" fitting got me fit like a glove. Saving up for their Kudu Belgian slipper and maybe a high-top sneaker in ink Cavalier. thanks as always
I absolutely agree and for me the wide sizing and unique minimalist design of the wholecut really make the brand
The resle process is what sold it for me. Spending $200-$300 on such a high quality sneaker that you can keep for years and years becuase of a new sole is such a good thing. I had no issue spending this much on shoes. Honestly, it felt like a great deal.

I have purchased GREATS, KOIO, M.GEMI, JAKS & now am definitely going to order a pair from CROWN NORTHAMPTON and can say that I enjoy wearing all of them for different reasons. One thing that should be noted is that certain brands have a tad more cushioning which is helpful if you have a thicker foot or are a heavier person.Thank you 🙏

I got a pair of white derbys with gum soles about a year ago after seeing one of your sneaker videos. Can't thank you enough for recommending them ,theyre by far my favorite sneakers and theyre aging beautifully

Great take, Jon. Based on your previous recommendation, I've purchased a pair of Crown's for myself. They are indeed great, so comfortable and stylish. However, like someone mentioned before, they are a little bulky; as I was accustomed to Converse sneakers, they do take some getting used to. Glad to see you showing the trim line in person. Keep up the great work, it's always a pleasure to watch this kind of content.

I have small feet so I don't mind the bulkier look than the common projects. I have just ordered the high top overstone derbies in natural Horween Essex leather with gum sole to use as winter shoes. My usual shoe size is EUR 41,5, so I got UK 7,5 which I hope is equivalent. Waiting time for the shoes is now apparently 7 weeks (!), compared to 2 weeks when they first launched the collection in 2017.
For future reference, the price of the shoes I ordered is £295 today the 21-08-15.

I’ve just got a pair for Christmas today. I got the Hand Stitched calf Derby’s they cost £650. Only sneakers that have a oak cork bark insole lining You sir have great taste.

I've been waiting a while for this video! Thanks for the deepdive, Jon! I just got a pair of Ace Marks Dukes in brown, and I thought I was getting a similar shoe to my triple-white Beckett Siminons. NOT CLOSE! The Ace Marks leather and the Margom soles really put them at the next level. Are the Crowns a step up from the Ace Marks Dukes, or are they true competitors?
I have several pairs of their low tops and two of their horween high tops. I can’t say enough good things about them. By far my favorite sneaker company.
thoughts on whether the silhouette is slightly bulkier than something like the achilles low common projects. I'm looking for trimmest profile.

Maybe they don't offer it or i may simply be That Slow but, do they offer that black Kudu leather in a padded wholecut? I love the look and the leather reminds me of this black To Boot New York sneaker i'm considering but, I'm loving the wholecut kudu.

You initially exposed me to those and I now own several pairs and I almost exclusively wear CN now with some Koio here and then. Crown really takes the Cake for minimalist sneakers.

Only thing holding me back from crown is it's silhouette. I want it more slimmer/slick, especially at the toe box
Does the shoes have the thick insole like many other minimalist sneakers? I have a high instep and that sole usually makes the shoe fit tight. I wear a UK10 or UK10.5 in dress shoes.
@@a.m.m.4592 No but they come with an extra inlay sole to raise it if required.
I believe they have a slim version of every silhouette. But I agree, appears to be a little bulkier than something like the low achilles. But can't tell what the difference is until I try them on!
i think they look very unique and not a common projects alternative, which most minimal company trying to do
I bought and returned these shoes for this reason. The silhouette is wide and bulky. Even the TL version. I wear an 11.5 sneaker so getting their equivalent looked huge on me. They took the return no problem. Great company to work with and wished the shoes worked out. Also, the Kudo leather is beautiful but this is a niche preference. It’s not for everyone.

Have you looked into Filling Pieces at all? Of all the minimalist looks, I like their silhouettes the best. Especially the "Low Top" Ghost model they have. I hear great things about their creativity and quality of materials used, but there isn't a ton of in depth review on them. So I'm very curious to see what you think

I did size down half-size and this fits me perfectly. Not too snug though. Depends really what type your foot, if you’re wide then stick to your own size.

If you live in Europe, changing size is not a problem cause it did happen to me. Just wait for 8- 10 days. The customer service is second to none.

I haven't seen many reviews on Wolverine's new(ish) sneakers that they've come out with. I am a huge fan of their boots, but I don't know much about how their sneakers have been turning out. Have you considered checking them out?

I'd rather pay VAT to have GBP. These are 450-500$ Canadian. Importing anything into Canada since the money became worthless while salaries didn't move hurts the soul.

I have watched many of your sneaker videos. They have all focused on daily wear and style sneaker. I am curious what sneaker you run with? Are you Altra person, so some other running shoe. I am pretty sure you are not running in your suede Koio.

Common Projects is not really a premium shoe considering their price. I’ve seen videos where they open them up and they’re not top of the line. How do Northampton compare to Beckett Simonon?

Quick question. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on a pair of whole cuts, but in their website it says to go with your sneaker size (8.5) for me. But you suggest to size down. So I am a bit confused what size (8.5 or 8). In my Greats I got an 8 (another shoe I bought after your recommendation last year). Thanks for all your great and informative videos.

Not sure if it is the wide-angle lens that makes these sneakers look like clown boots on your feet. Were you using something closer to 50mm equivalent?

You can custom order any cut or color combination, you just have to email them and ask.

Chromexcel doesn't polish like other leathers. Saphir makes a "Greasy Leather Crème" or Horween recommends Venetian Shoe Cream. and a good horsehair brushing .
I got the trim line version, and it was THE most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn! The tongue was too short and insanely stiff, and everytime I took a step, the edge of the tongue dug into the top of my foot. Absolutely horrible! I got rid of the shoes right away.

Without a leather sole which can curl, and needs to dry, why would you need shoe trees? . I would have thought they were not required.

How would you compare Beachwood vs cedar shoe trees? I find some European companies use Beachwood.
I'm fairly certain they perform equally well; it's just that cedar has that famous characteristic cedar aroma. I the cedar smell is important to you, get the cedar.

As long as your feet are done growing then I say go for it. Will last you a long time, look great, and save you $$ in the long run

Hi - I think the prices are much higher now - it's about 260 GBP to get a pair of sneakers, which translates to nearly $400 USD. I am sure it's still a great sneaker but may be not a value play at that price...
Contrary,very good value for price.similar sneakers from other companies at much higher price are much worse quality...I have one pair more than 10 year old and they still amazing,most comfy shoes I have,fit like glow,now I’m looking to get me my second pair,very hard to chose what to get,want them all 🤣
Unfortunately the shoes are now more expensive (overstone was 245 now 260) and they dont come with any of those accessories like the bag or tge keychain...
They fluctuate a little bit it seems. I ordered a pair of overstone derby in No 8 chromexcel in May at 398 usd. I was on their site the other day and it was at 388 usd. Though getting 20% back lessens the pain.
How would these compare to Koio? Comfort? Quality? Couple factors to be considered.

At the end of the day , the quality in the material of MOST high quality sneakers are the same , but , when you look at crown .. the level of craftsmenship , leather offerings ( kudu and horween) and not forget that they are resolable , is making them pop out more than the others.
mine came with a bunch of cuts and indentation marks. poor QC

I've been eyeballing their Horween Cavalier sneakers for a while now. Does anybody here have any experience with it?
I have the Navy high tops and the No 8 high tops in Horween. They take a bit of breaking in around the top, but they are fantastic.

I see so many people commenting and saying these shoes are ugly. Why do people feel the need to comment on their subjective experience? I for one think the looks of these shoes are the most appealing part. Although I normally don't care to share my opinion on looks, in this case, the Crowns look sturdy and comfortable, whereas minimalist shoes look flimsy and dainty.
Oh no! Granny knots on premium shoes!! You need to mirror either the first or the second stage in your knots, and they will stay straight and tied.
How do they stack against Koio? I would assume they're very similar.
I have a koio triple white sneaker and I'm in love with them and I take care of them like a baby, love them to death and the quality is top notch.

If you're considering for which to go I would choose crown Northampton from two reasons.
One, the horween and kudo collection and the second most important one is that you can resole them when on koios you can't.

Question for anyone: how comfortable are all of these 200 dollar range calfskin leather shoes like koio, Oliver cabell, common projects etc? I'm looking for a minimalist white sneaker to use for work where ill be walking and standing for hours every day. I understand the value of these shoes is mainly in their construction and durability which is important to me...but are they also noticeably more comfortable then a pair of vans or other similar sneakers under $100? I've heard mixed answers about their comfort.
