Aimi Kobayashi played Schubert Impromptu op.90 no.2 at PTNA Cometition 2003 when she was 7 years old and got the 1st prize under the cathegory of age 14. EMI Classic and Aimi's fansite(c.)
Speechless... She wasn't even tall enough to sit on normal piano bench and play and use the pedal (notice tht it was lifted) amd she can play such a hard piece whicg requires tons of skills. Its too amazing
A miracle made manifest! Aimi'splaying, even at that tender age, was so comletely MUSICAL -- brilliant-but-also expressive and full of CHARACTER displaying an incredibly mature UNDERSTANDINg of the spirit, mood, and drama in Schubert's masterpiece..
I've learned piano for years and learned my share of theory and for all I hear, it sounds better than some professional players to me. I don't know why anyone would say this sounds like "Robot"
She was amazing. And she played this at 7years old!! Why does people think that she plays like a robot? Those people are probably jealous of her!! Ps. For the people who can't play this piece and thinks she plays like a robot: If you play this, you'll think that your hands will fall off from your body. So don't say that she is a robot.
Amie is incredible. From what I have seen she really enjoys playing piano and seems to be a well balanced young lady despite her incredible talent. Good luck to her. May she continue giving enjoyment to all who listen!
This is really great, I love it. But everybody says how the girl is a genius. She may be, but there is much more then intelligence behind this. She worked hard for years.
@@cooper7944 Aimi is gifted. She has always looked at ease, and there is no difference between her command here and in her 20s, just more advanced repertoire. Everyone practices, not everyone develops like this.
And all the people who criticize those people who says that she plays like a robot, It means that humans cannot basically achieve this mastery, and only beyond humans can achieve this girl's talent. IN OTHER WORDS, she is to good to be true.
Wow,that is amazing how that little girl plays the piano with such skill and super dexterity for someone so very young, WELL DONE, I like it, nice one 👍
Each time I see a video of Aimi, my mind get blown away. There are two important qualities for a pianst : Sensibility, and technical skill. She has both of them, more than anyone I know, since she began to play the piano.

So cute! I am always amazed. We think of these little ones as somewhat magical that they can perform like a well trained adult. But the reality though it seems impossible is that these little ones are in reality matured spirits in still growing little bodies. 😊
nice job girl! i am almost 40 and i have practiced this piece on-and-off for a long time, and there is no way i can play it anywhere near the way you can. you are an inspiration for us!!
I'm also learning this song now, I can't play as well as her... She is really good, I think it is in the realm of God(Provided by Google Translate)
If you are able to appreciate and see the true beauty of the music you will never see how the thing expresses it. It is not in person's movements, not in the face expressions, instead it is out of there, it is everywhere. A true master will always feel music by heart, not looking to how the musician makes his face look like. Well, what would you said then if we are back to Glenn Gould? It doesn't matter at all. . .
I feel fine, not ashamed or jealous at all just because I never started learning piano, so I can't go to sleep well and keep listening to such a young prodigy. Bravo young girl. fabulous...
Well said... Too many stereotypes have nothing more than critisize... I personally congratulate her parents/tutors for bringing out such talent in this world, giving pleasure (and envy) to the rest us who had no opportunity nor talent but to enjoy it. She will get better and better in the years to come....
John... Your perspective is noted and respected... I am a 69 year old chorister... never had much luck with the piano. That said, I found nothing wrong with this performance and I also think that it is all Aimi and not her teachers. This is the performance that sticks in my head even though I think I have a Brendel version, and have listened to a few others on TH-cam. She has a drive that is very rare even for a master and every time she finishes I want stand up and cheer.
(cont'd) Aimi immediately took to the piano, and started with lessons at age 2 1/2. At 3 she gave her first public performance. See it on TH-cam. She played by ear--after listening to tapes or watching her teacher. She has always memorized pieces--of any length--after just a few days of practicing. She enjoys performing, but has never liked to practice. Until this year at age 17, she has come in first in every competition she has ever entered--including those outside Japan. She records with EMI
Aimi you are a genious!! Then and today. It might be the best interpretation i have heard of this piece. Musically wonderfull and technical perfect. Its a very solistic and difficult piece played like that and listening to what a genious pianist she is today, the musicality must have started early. I see further below in some statements: The old ones understanding the music and a child can not. Nonsense!! Genious' are not to be understood. Aimi is one. Mozart was one. Chopin waas one. Schubert himself maybe the biggest. He always after 6 months got better than his students also as a child - and composed the Forellenquibntett after sharing 2 bottles of redwine with a friend. Finished written during a night. In his head. Perfect next morning. Aimi you are a genious. Some here too stupid to understand!!
This is so amazing. She is better than 99.9% percent of adults who have attempted piano lessons in their lives, how does she find the will and focus to acquire this amazing talent, let alone finger strength, at her age?!
This has got to be my favorite Kobayashi performance on TH-cam. Unlimited talent and Zero inhibition - the music just explodes from those tiny fingers.
Schubert piano pieces are so deceptive in that they sound “easy” to play because the harmony and form are relatively straightforward, (especially for those who study theory). Until you get a copy of the piece and then try to sight read it... I am a fan of Ms Aimi Kobayashi, watching her play virtuosically at such a young age helps me imagine what it would have looked like when Mozart or even Mendelssohn must have played as child prodigies. Oh and I absolutely love her playing Chopin Scherzo 1 and Etude 5 Op 25 at the Chopin competition!
This was 14 years ago when Ami was 7. Unfortunately, her spontaneous carefree totally dedicated effortless musical genius has ended, and playing now appears to be an excruciating emotional battlefield for Ami. Sad, but something has happened in her life.

Many of todays young prodigies are performing this piece. Aimi still rules and is by far the finest. Such a great musician.
