Hi Steve, It is good to be back on the Practice Tee again .. I feel like I have just started playing golf after such a long layoff.. the golf club feels very foreign in my hands right now.. but its good there is a swing process that can get me making contact with the golf ball again and not being a hazard to living things around me with errant shots. Cheers Mate
Hey Chad, Good to hear from you again, I have been keeping up with your channel content .. man your presentation production quality is so good these days .. it's a far cry from my old handycam cow paddock presentations.. but then I have quite a significant base of appreciative 'Cow Fans' that line the paddock fence when I am videoing.. I must be doing something right because I get a lot of appreciative 'Mooing' responses from the Cows when I hit a good shot. .. as long as someone appreciates my videos I am happy.. Cheers Mate
Welcome back JH! This reminds me of the negative load stuff and hinging you introduced a year or 2 ago. Its something i get back to when ive lost some lag in my swing.
Hi Bob, I think the negative loading principle gets natural loadings taking place in the backswing of any type of golf swing really.. if you get the clubhead negative lag loading itself in the backswing the clubhead 'must' reverse that loading to 'positive' loading in the downswing... .. but if you positive load the club head in the backswing there can be a reversing of the positive loading into negative loading in the downswing. OK.. Tour players can control any leakage into negative loading in the downswing because they have such great body rotational function in the downswing which keeps pressure on the positive loading until just before impact.. but rank-and-file golfers don't have that body progression in the downswing and positively loaded clubhead can get thrown away in the downswing because the body does not lead enough in the downswing. Cheers Jh
Great to see you JH! Nothing better than a bucket of yellow balls and an open field--well--almost open field--cows would beg to differ. Missed your unique conversations into the camera. Stay well. Cheers!
Hi Ken, The 'Cow Paddock' is a great escape from life's day to day pressures.. the Cows dont question or critique what I am trying to do .. which is a nice respite from the general requirements of day to day life. Cheers JH
Hi William, The swing is a real alternative to the general complications of a conventional golf swing.. when you can eliminate virtually everything required in the downswing relative to deliberate structure application thinking with the one only backswing process ..the swing has to become more easilly manageable. Cheers JH
Hi Jh, Great to have you back sharing your knowledge! The swing looks very stable for such a layoff . Golfers that want to improve can benefit from this type of simplicity . The type of hinging your advocating is the core principle in my golf swing . I would call it a game changer for me . The benefits from this are numerous. Ive witnessed this work with all ages and skill levels . I will send a video to your email in a few days and share some of the discovery process. Cheers mate
Hi Matt, That's encouraging to know you actually use the hinging principle in your own golf swing.. that is quite an endorsement of the process at your level of playing expertise these days. .. I just think a 'Throwing' action with the trial hand/wrist is something that is naturally endemic in people ..its something that is just a natural process.. you don't have to 'invent' it.. you just have to 'use' it. Cheers Mate
Well the video was a good reminder for you .. and there was some update info for the swing with the wrist hinging process and the shallowing of the shoulder tilt angle on the backswing .. glad the video resonated with you. Cheers JH
I am just pleased that you are making videos again. I have missed the practice tee. I have revisited many of the golf swings and watched over and over again. Regards TONY..
Hi Tony, You know 'I' visited a lot of my old videos during my absence from the Practice Tee,.. I didn't realize that I had visited so many different aspects of Golf Swings .. the good thing about that was that there was actually something in all those videos that could help me in my return to the Practice Tee.. so if I can find something to help 'me' again.. hopefully, other golfers can get the same benefit. Cheers JH
Hi Dana, It was so good to get back on the Practice Tee again.. it was a bit daunting frankly because it felt so foreign after such a long layoff from hitting Golf balls .. the swing was quite crotchety in feel but surprisingly the ball flight was really good accuracy and strike-wise.. Cheers mate
Welcome back JH. I’ve been layed up myself the past few days with a tick born illness. Glad the notification finally came on. I used this swing in practice before it’s a good one. Cheers.
Hi John, I know how those Tick inflicted illness's debiltate you.. a fiend of mine who is a super athlete had an awful time getting over a Tick bite infection. I think this swing type can be beneficial to Golfers who invariably get caught up with loads of swing thjoughts etc.. this swing is virtually a backswing only in terms of consideration.. because the backswing momentum that is created by the brisk throwing back motion just creates the reactive downswing process automatically.. just having only a backswing thought process has got to be easier than a backswing 'and' downswing thinking process. ' Cheers mate
Hi John, I think every Golfer has at one time or another been overly consumed by way too many thought applications in the process of a Golf Swing.. I know myself years back that I was frying my brain with so many swing process thoughts from address to impact. OK.. when I am learning or trying a different swing methodology I clearly need to have some amount of mental processes taking place.. but after I have become familiar with the requirements of the swing I try to minimize the process thinking to only a couple of actions that will create an 'automatic' ongoing response for the rest of the swing. I think this video I have done encompasses the perfect minimization thinking requirement in a Golf Swing. Cheers mate
@@1atomicgolf yes you’ve really simplified this method JH. What’s nice about this for a senior golfer(or any age) like me is less moving parts.,I’m finding as I get older these body parts do not always work as one. I’m thinking Sanders or Hogan with these mechanics
In the follow-up videos about this swing I will be detailing the specifics of the importance of the address shaft plane angle and the importance of trying as much as possible to keep that level of plane in the backswing.. simply applied.. trying to keep the lead arm on the same plane as the shoulder girdle at the top of the backswing.. just like Hogan did. Cheers mate
Hi Richard, It's good to be back on the Practice Tee.. I have lots of swing stuff to talk about in coming videos .. I did a lot of thinking about the Golf Swing during my time away from the Practice Tee. Cheers mate
Hi Dale, It's good to be back hitting the ball again on the Practice Tee.. it felt pretty wobbly but it was good to have a swing type that I could apply that let me hit the ball fairly competently after such a long layoff.. cheers JH
The Putter project is in limbo for a while.. I have some new design improvements I want to explore.. I hope to be able to get back in the saddle of doing videos regularly from now on. Cheers JH
Funnily enough, even though I had a great channel lock lesson from you down there, Inhave recently come back to the short controlled acceleration swing, so I’m glad to see you revisiting it. I notice this time there is more focus on the quicker move in the backswing, I can see why that will help the downwards change of direction transition to be more automatic than a deliberate move
You have picked up perfectly the main benefit of the swing process.. by whipping the clubhead back with lots of speed momentum the change of direction in the downswing is automatically preordained because of the speed loading forces developed in the backswing. I have obly one specific thought in the backswing.. fire the clubhead back with my hands as quick as I can.. and let everything the body does to balance that action happen automatically. Cheers JH
Tried it today and realized how important the "rythm" is in the backswing. Takes some getting used to. But I do have a question in general. When you swing, do you inhale on the backswing, and exhale on the downswing (exertion phase?). I don't thinkI've ever read or heard anybody talk about coordinating breathing with the swing motion., Thanks JH, you are the BESt! Eternally young...it sure seems to me. MC@@1atomicgolf
Hi Steve, Good to hear from You, I certainly dont have the speed of clubhead that I had. 30 years ago thats for sure, but. I can still hit the ball far enough now that I can still play. all but the. very long courses without great difficulty.. ok. modern technology clubs and balls. certainly help. with. getting. distance with a slower swing speed than I used to have .. I can still hit most. holes. in regulation strokes without to much trouble.. clearly cant hit those parv fives in two shots anymore.. but still get. birdies. on them reasonably regularly. Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Great to hear from you JH. It sounds like you are enjoying your golf. Thanks for leaving us so many great videos to comtinually refer back to. Wish you continued good health and good fortune and great golf! Cheers
Hi Stephen, It's really good to be back on the Practice Tee.. I missed it so much.. the old body felt crotchety swinging after such a long layoff.. but that swing type I did the video about helped so much to enable me to hit some surprisingly pretty good shots.. and getting out in the Sunshine again really does lift the body and Spirit. Cheers JH
I gotta tell you after not holding a golf club for so long I felt I was actually in a battle today working out a way to get my old body back in tune for swinging a golf club.. luckily that swing I used today was a great solution for all the swing rust I had accumalated. cheers JH
Hi Paul, It's great to see people like yourself taking the time to watch my videos again .. I always enjoy the interface with Golfers my videos create... my channel has only a small base of supporters but they have been very loyal over the years which I appreciate very much. Cheers JH
Hello from West Cork, Ireland. Great to see you back, JH. We missed you. Best golf channel on YT without a doubt. Always thought-provoking and with lots of humour thrown in. And the occasional geography lesson as well. I like hearing about all these Australian places you mention, like Smoke City, Flush City, Dead Centre City, and Impact Town! All the best, Tony.
Hi Tony, A friend of mine played Old Head Golf Course in Cork last year .. he said it was a wonderful course.. he said he played a few other courses in Cork as well and they were all so good to play..so you clearly have no reason to not get out on those courses regularly and enjoy them. I have to tell you I was concerned after not having hit balls or practiced for 8 months that those Australian towns .. like Flush City.. Impact Town.. Dead Center City.. and alike could easily have had another town added to them .. 'Shanksville'.. I was worried if I could remember how to get the clubface back to the ball squarely and from the right path direction. Thankfully my old .. 'Short Controlled Acceleration Swing' turned out to be what it was always intended to be .. a swing that could perform almost automatically because of its shortness of range of motion ease of application.. so no new Town names were needed to be established.. especially one ..' Shanksville'. Cheers JH
I’ve heard of something like this before. Where you think about varying speeds of your hands and arms in certain parts of the swing. It really takes your mind off of traditional position style golf Well done JH
I am not really thinking of 'varying' the speed of my hands/cub.. I am just really trying to whip the clubhead back as quickly and unrestrictedly as I can and just have the same feeling process getting back to the ball at impact.. no thinking of technique.. just concentrating on the free flow of the clubhead... throw it back.. throw it forward..as uninhibited and briskly as possible. Cheers JH
JH, I just watched your video from 9 years ago on the short swing. So I did a comparison of the 2 videos and the only difference was that in first video you stated that keep the legs bent pointing to the lead side. You hammered the ball back then just like now. Golf season is winding up here in Canada but I will practicing this method for the rest of the season. Thanks
Hi Larry, I must say that by applying a shuttling of the knees in the downswing instead of a straightening of the lead leg/knee and rotation of the lead hip I really do get a stronger/longer hit on the ball through impact. That shuttling of the knees laterally is of course a Moe Norman swing facet.. and back then I was very much into the Moe Norman swing mechanics. So I can say to you if you can apply the lateral knee shuttling to the short controlled acceleration swing I can guarantee it will help with the consistency of impact.. and stability of impact. Cheers JH
Interesting, especially for old fogies like me. Please could you ,say something about ball position at address for various length clubs and also whether you are placing the clubhead directly behind the ball at address, Good to see you back making videos, JH.
Hi Francis, If you look at the way I position my arms/hands at address you will see my hands are relatively body centered at address.. for all normal shots .. To that end the ball positioning is not something I think about specifically.. the ball just ends up being in front of the clubface.. essentially pretty much body centered. I have never been one to alter ball position for different clubs.. I got that from the greatest player of all time .. Jack Nicklaus.. he played the ball in the same position for all clubs. With regards to where do I place the club at address.. I have always idiosincraticaly placed the toe of the club inside the ball at address.. I do that to que my brain to fire the clubhead in to out at impact.. and as well having the toe of the clubhead inside the ball gives me more room in the downswing to fire the club in to out at impact. .. but other people don't need to do what I do.. its easier to just position the clubhead behind the ball as is normally done. Cheers JH
Hi JH, Thanks for your informative reply. The only surprise was your reason for placing the toe of the club inside the ball-. I thought it would be why Mindy Blake did, i.e. because the angle between forearm and shaft at address has been given up at least for the most part at impact. I must try your method of hinging the wrists . Up to now I have been doing this as taught by Dante, by pressing the heel pad of the right hand down on the left thumb. I am delighted to say that I find this short accelerated swing method very good for me and am pleased with the way my game is developing. Thank you for your help. Cheers, John.. @@1atomicgolf
It was really good to be back on the practice tee.. it was quite daunting after so long of an absence.. but so good to prove a simple swing process can be applied so easily after so long of a break from hitting golf shots. cheers JH
@1atomicgolf thanks JH.. like yourself I've played par golf using a variety of swings. I love the different swings. And I'm always super interested in someone that actually got to be in the presence of the great Moe Norman.
JH, I never thought you’d abandon Martin’s crossroads. Seemed like you were on the brink of greatness with his breakthrough feel. I’m turning the corner with it now and will never swing another way. It’s too automatic. I wish you the best with your game and thank you for your insights. -Joe
Hi Joe, I haven't abandoned Martin's swing methodology.. I just haven't had the time to ingest the process yet.. I need a few full-on practice sessions to get a true understanding of the methodology. Martin has developed a golf swing that is totally unique in Golf Swing mechanics application.. the process is what I think Hogan actually did in his swing.. Marty does it in his swing now as well.. and the quality of ball striking Marty has now is better than anything I have seen in today's conventional swing methodologies. I just need to do some videos for my Channel that are more relative to traditional type swing mechanics because that is what the followers of my channel have become accustomed to .. as well I do not want to do anything with the Martin Ayers swing methodology in terms of explanation until I understand the process perfectly.. I need to present the swing in its absolute true form. cheers JH
Seems a lot of CL in that throw back inside motion… like it… short & sweet backswing with even tempo … I’m off for a left hip replacement next week at 82 and this might be what I need when I come back in 12 weeks or so… shot 72 two weeks ago using CL… the to golf is that there is no secret … it’s all about the never ending journey 😊
Hi Pat, Good Luck with the hip replacement. and rehab program, its a big opperation at our age, luckily. I still. have. all my joint. functions. virtually as they. were. 40 years ago, but then I work. all. the muscle support groups. 5 times a week with my Gym workouts. I like. the "Throwback". action. because. it just creates more. more load momentum in the clubhead. in the backswing. and. tends to. pull the body into. an easier. amount of rotation in the backswing, especially. 82 year old bodies like ours. Cheers JH
JH I think all of your 200 swings you never missed a shot. I like this swing that your are demonstrating are you picking the ball? Would you explain your procedure of picking the ball. Thank you.
I missed plenty of shots over the years.. but not so badly that the shots were to punishing.. which is the formula I think we all should strive to achieve.. if you can miss hit a shot and still keep it in play that has to be a major plus. I personaly have a sweeping action in all my swing types because with every swing I naturally have a pronounced in to out attack path at impact .. an in to out attack path is always a shallow attack plane.. and that type of attack plane is just very level through impact. So to produce a 'sweeping' attack plane through impact you must unsure your lead shoulder is somewhat closed and moving upwards at impact .. those two aspects of the swing geometry produce the shallow sweeping attack angle at impact. Cheers JH
When you take it back fast your body braces and you don't float or sway out of balance. At 67, I have been afraid to swing hard for a few years for fear of injuring myself. However, that was on a full swing. I think this short controlled acceleration swing may be the thing.
Hi Mike, You are absolutely correct about the result of tacking the club back fast with the hands and that action eliminating swaying or loss of balance etc. If you watch John Rahm and Mathew Fitzpatrick they have incredible structural stability in their swings.. and they both generate a lot of swing speed. I think the Short Controlled Acelleration swing is the key to improving balance and stability and quality of strike in the golf swig . Cheers JH
You never stick with one thing, JH... that's what makes you interesting. You are like Hogan, always searching....even though you seemed to have mastered your swing and ballstriking back in that period of 2018 when you made that "climbing Everest" video.
Hi Steve, I'm the eternal swing researcher.. for me to be locked into 'one' type of golf swing mechanics would bore me into golf swing research retirement. There are just so many tweaks golfers can apply to the Golf swing that can benefit individual physicalities..mental uptake etc ..to that end I believe my channel is much better served providing lots of swing options for golfers to try for their individuality of body physicalities and general capabilities. As well my channel would not be of much interest I wouldnt think if it only had 'one' theme of how to swing a golf club. Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf thanks for what you do JH, you have made golf fun for me again, with your optimistic and adventurous attitude. It has been quite a ride these last five years following you and all your swings and ideas. And all of us have been through alot of trials, attacks, and tribulations. It is great to see you still going strong! Continued good fortune and best wishes, JH!
Hi George , Glad the swing is working OK for you.. Lower the ball flight.. If I want to hit a Lower ball flight shot.. I exaggerate my direction attack into the ball at impact. That being I just try to exaggerate my path attack direction into the ball at impact .. that being I keep my shoulders closed coming into .. and at impact.. the feeling is I am trying to hit the ball out to the right of the target ( right handed Golfer of Course) ... by doing that the attack angle of the club into impact is shallower and the spin of the shot is reduced accordingly. Now by firing the clubhead out across the targetline at impact you need to have the clubface closed up at impact so as to put drawspin on the ball.. clearly you need the shot to draw back to the target because the ball will be starting out to the right because of the attack path of the clubface at impact. The other thing I do for a lower ball flight is just move the ball back at address.. which makes it easier to produce an in to out path attack at impact .. if the ball is to far forward at address/impact you will have trouble keeping your shoulders closed at impact. Actually your high ball flight could actually be that you are just generally playing the ball to far forward at address/impact.. if I want to hit a High shot normally I just move the ball further forward at addres .. that ensures I will have more of an up hit on the ball at impact and more loft on the clubface. Just try moving the ball back in your stance first and try that.. as well concentrate on keeping your lead shoulder closed at impact and see what that does to your ball flight.. but bremember closed shoulders at impact will get the ball ' starting' to the right initially.. so you need to get the clubface closed up a bit at address to compensate for that.. because the shot will be a draw shot with that clubface closure and path attack at impact.. and draw shots generally are just lower ball flight shots. Cheers JH
Glad you liked the video.. I just think if we can narrow down the complexity of thinking for the Golf Swing there really is just less requirement for coordinating a "lot' of deliberate conscious things in the Golf Swing. Cheers JH
Great to see you back JH, really glad you’re well. What happened with the Martin Ayers swing you were working on, there was a 7 second video of you swinging that way and your backswing looked longer than I’d ever seen it, this is quite a contrast to that
Hi Jim, I Have been liaising with Martin Ayers about his swing methodology.. I hope to give an overview of it in the near future.. I need to have some serious practice sessions first though to overlay the swing process.. it's so so different from anything I have ever thought of doing in a Golf swing before.. it's amazingly good.. but just so different to comprehend. Cheers JH
JH, in one of your last channel lock videos you talked about the negative loading of the club, and you made a point that needs to be mentioned in all of your videos to high handicappers like me, you said if we set the club early we throw that position away on the downswing, I’ve found that if at setup I set my lead wrist in that negative loading position, it completely changes my ball striking. It’s an old video but you always have nuggets about the swing that work in any method for us players that never got great instruction when we were younger
@@jimmcewen9351 HiJim, I have always found that setting the wrists in a negative load orientation at address just has to promote a positive load orientation in the downswing..its actually impossible to keep the wrists in a negative loaded position in the downswing if the wrists were negative in the backswing..cannot happen biomechanically.. I believe the clubhead should always be 'dragged' back in the backswing..not 'pushed' back..when you do that you get the fishing flyrod snap loading effect of the clubhead...good to hear from you. Cheers JH
Great to have you back JH. I always associate you with channel lock which you really took ownership of. A very simple and reproducible technique which I have found very useful. As an aside do you have any thoughts on the stack and tilt technique? Essentially keeping all the weight on the lead side. All the best David
Hi David, This process of course can be applied to the Channel Lock swing.. I just applied to a conventional type swing process for the generality of explanation.. I would play the process with Channel Lock if I was playing of course. I think 'some' aspect of the stack and tilt swing process is useful in any golf swing type.. that being to concentrate on not letting the upper body swing center move in the backswing.. .I myself fall into that habit sometimes and when I do I think of applying a 'type' of stack and tilt lead side stabilizing process.. not full Stack and Tilt.. but a part feeling of not letting the upper body sway to trailside in the backswing. Cheers JH
JH thank you for your help and welcome back. I tried the short control, acceleration swing today. Loved every bit of it but my ball flight is uncontrolled fade/small slice. I’m 78 made the distance I had at 68 any suggestions on how I can straighten out the ball flight?
Hi George, If you ball flight is a 'Slice' type flight.. that means the clubhead/face is tracking 'out to in' at impact..and the clubface is 'open' at impact. In order to hit a draw shape ball flight the clubhead/face must be tracking 'in to out' at impact with a slightly 'closed' clubface. In order to get the clubface tracking 'in to out' at impact the lead shoulder needs to be slightly closed at impact... which it cant be if its not high at impact. To get that to happen you need to get the lead shoulder moving upwards at impact.. and be slightly closed as well. With your slice type ball flight you are probably having your lead shoulder to flat and moving down and left at impact.. maybe not down much as such.. but certainly not 'upwards' and closed as it needs to be to get the cluheadhead/face tracking in to out at impact. Just try to get the lead shoulder moving 'upwards' coming into impact and keep it closed as well. ..just get in front of a mirror and facing down the line and watch the point of your lead shoulder in the downswing.. do what you have to do to get the point of the lead shoulder going 'upwards' coming into impact.. its virtually impossible to gewt the clubhead tracking 'out to in' at impact with a high lead shoulder. A good drill to achieve a high lead shoulder and it being closed at impact.. is just to think of firing the clubhead out to the right of the targetline at impact ( right handed golfer).. just exaggerate firing the clubhead across and out to the right at impact... you cant do that with a flat shoulder plane and low lead shoulder at impact. Try that stuff.. it will get the cluhead tracking in to out at impact.. which is what you need to eliminate the 'across the line out to in' impact position. which causes the cutshot ball flight.. pull/slice type shot. Cheers JH
JH: Miss you on the practice tee old friend. One year is a long while. Hope all is well and that you can give a shout out to your friends in the golfing world. Cheers mate!
Hi Karl, Nice to hear from you, I hope to be back on the practice tee soon, as in life for everyone there are things that present themselves when you never think they ever will, I had my one of those occurences. As normaly with time all things will invariably get better, that has. happened for me now, and. I hope to direct my life. back. to where it. was before that occurence, . The practice tee. I hope will be. the therapy. I need. to get me back to the Life outlook I. once had, Im confident. I will, Life will be again the Joy it once was. Cheers Mate.
The 'Emphasis' in this swing is in the Hands and arms... its all about loading momentum into the clubhead in the backswing and firing that momentum with the hands/arms at and through the ball at impact. The 'Body' is just a 'Responder' to the momentum of the clubhead in the downswing... I have no conscious thinking of doing anything with my Body in the downswing. As a feeling in the swing.. if the clubhead was not glued on to the shaft I would be trying to 'throw' the clubhead off the shaft in the downswing through impact.. its really so much a 'Hands/arms' Golf Swing. Cheers JH
Hi Mike, Rory does take the club back quickly.. as does John Rahm.. Mathew Fitzpatrick .. Rahm is not only fast in his backswing.. he is also quite short in backswing length .. and certainly doesnt suffer any loss of power or distance because of the shortness of his backswing. It is interesting that Mathew Fitzpatrick actually went on a traing period where he tried to swing the clubhead even faster in his backswing and he has picked up so much extra clubhead speed and driver distance .. he gets his drives out there with some of the longer hitters these days. Cheers JH
Love this swing… has some basic elements of CL … now you’re back are you going to market CL or just leave it to Matt & Co ? I think for the average weekly club golfer it is the answer… and for senior golfers particularly 🤔
Hi Patrick, Cl is available to the Golfing world for .. Free.. to commercially promote the process is to difficult at my stage of life.. taking on the traditional base of Golf swing mechanics teaching is to big a task for an 81 year old.. as well its never been my objective to commercialise any of the JH practice tee swing iterations. If some people can benefit from what I have advocated on the JH practice tee over the years.. then that is reward enough for me. Cheers JH
It's good to be back.. this swing is the 'same' for all clubs.. and shots.. with the one exception.. that being a very short chip shot around the green.. reason being it would be too difficult to invoke a quick flinging action in such a short shot requirement.. but for everything thing else.. just invoke the quick reactive flinging of the clubhead backward and forwards. I think the good thing about the swing is that you only have to think about one specific action in 'all' your swings.. and if you have been a poor bunker shot player this swing will be a godsend for you.. the way the clubhead moves through the sand with this action is amazing. cheers JH
Hi John, My grip. is. traditionally. considered. a neutral. type grip configuation, the ball position. is. whatever. a player uses. normally in their general swing. The relativety of the swing. is simply that of the. 'Process' of the swing, motion as such, that being. whatever. transpires. in the actual. swing dynamics.. essentially the. biomechanical. process of the hands/arms. etc. during the swing. Cheers JH
Ball position is not different from a conventional ball position.. the swing is only different in the process letting the clubhead move in a toally unobstructed motion circular 'around' the body.. its a 'circular' swing.. not a side to side swing. Cheers JH
Hi Daryl, I missed the practice tee too.. the body feels lost relative to swinging a golf club after not hitting any shots for so long.. it was just good to be able to resurect a swing type that doesnt require a lot of application to get some good contact on the ball again. Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Hi Thx. Tried the swing this pm and went great. Felt like mini hogan action. So simple and the right hand release was powerful. Glad you shared this. Im turning 70 soon and this suits me. Rgdz daryl
Hi Daryl, The swing I think is really good for the senior Golfer.. because even at 60/70 ish you can still fire the hands/arms fairly quickly over a short distance of travel .. it's not as easy to do that with a longer length swing because there is more requirement to support a longer swing from the rest of the body.. the shorter brisk swing is quite easy to support balance, etc wise. Cheers JH
The Channel Lock swing is still part of the swing technologies I presaent on my Pratice Tee channel. The idea of my channel is to discuss all 'different' types of Golf Swing mechanics.. Channel Lock is just another one of those Golf Swings.. nothing has happened to Channel Lock.. its still an extremely good Golf Swing to try out. Cheers JH
You are not missing anything.. the general Theme of my Golf channel is that of providing 'different' types of golf swing mechanics to golfers in general .. the reason for that is because not everyone can swing a golf club a specific way.. and evereyopne has different levels of physicality which can on occasions preclude them from conventiopnal type swing mechanics. Channel Lock is simply 'another type' of Golf swing structure and mechanics ... its not for everyone clearly.. but it can give impressive results for some Golfers. Bottom line.. Channel Lock is just 'another' type of Golf swing people can try.. I use it myself .. but other people cannot adapt to it as easy as I can .. but a lot of people can .. Cheers JH
Weight shift is an automatic response of the torque coiling of the body in the backswing.. you just need to keep the trail leg as it was at address right throughout the backswing and the lead hip/leg will respond to being woundup against the trail side buttressing from the trail leg and pull the leadside of the body into releasing the golf club through impact. Cheers Jh
Hi Leslie, Thanks for telling me about Marty being on Be Better Golf.. I didn't know Marty had done an interview with Brandon,.. its good Marty got some extra exposure for his swing methodology on Brandon's channel.. Marty is a genius relative to understanding the Golf Swing's true requirements.. he just needs more exposure like Brandon's channel to get people switched on to his outlook on swing mechanics. When you see in the flesh the ball flight and quality of strike he achieves with his swing mechanics ... you know what he is espousing about swing mechanics is correct.. and if you want that level of swing expertise you just have to commit to the level of understanding of the swing principles .. its all about the amount of effort you put into understanding the swing principles as to what you will get out of the swing process. Cheers JH
It seems to be a lot like the swing theory of Joe Norwood. Have you heard of him? He had quite the golf teaching career. His grandson Dan Norwood stated that Joe worked with Ben Hogan and Mac O'Grady. Joe's mantra was "lifting muscles don't swing, and swinging muscles don't lift."
I know of Joe Norwood and Dan Norwood, the swing Dan promoted exhibited a very simplistic swing process.. I think the process I am advocating in this instance has similar simplicity attached to it. Cheers JH

Hi Michael, Martins swing process is still in development with Martin.. hopefully it will be a finished process soon and that finished iteration of the swing can be discussed in more depth at that time by Martin and myself. cheers JH
I actually have had a number of enquiries from people to find out if I was still above ground which made me get out and do some videos to show I am still a living entity..and to find out my swing still had some 'life' in it was very encouraging. Cheers JH
Hi Mike, The contact was quite acceptable considering the long absence I had from hitting golf balls.. and the good thing about this swing is that even if you dont flush every shot because the clubhead is freewheeling so much you still tend to get good impact on the ball.. a little high or low on the face doesnt kill the ball flight drastically.. Cheers JH
Martin and I have been working together fialising my indoctrination to the "Final' iteration of his swing methodology... we are very close to finalising the program and hopefully I can do some videos soon on my channel explaining program results etc. Cheers JH
Hi Leslie, Thanks for enquiring .. I'm ok.. I have just had an extended break from the practice tee and instruction videoing etc. for some family responsibilities. However, I am definitely returning to the practice tee before the end of next week... I have a lot of new content that I have been researching that I think will be of great interest to the channel followers. Cheers JH
Hi Bill, At my age its more like a ..'John Deere Tractor'.. than a Rolls Royce.. but a John Deere tractor is very reliable and uncomplicated.. which I think the Short Controlled Accelleration swing also has those traits. Cheers JH
Hi Patrick, Lots of .. recoil.. in this swing..its actually the very first premise I spoke about in the very first video I did way back 12+ years ago.. I called that video . Action.. Reaction.. reason being that I felt the downswing should be a reaction to the backswing velocity forces.. which is essentially a Recoil action. Cheers JH
Now TH-cam is good again with golf instruction
Great to see you back 👍⛳️👍
Hi Steve,
It is good to be back on the Practice Tee again .. I feel like I have just started playing golf after such a long layoff.. the golf club feels very foreign in my hands right now.. but its good there is a swing process that can get me making contact with the golf ball again and not being a hazard to living things around me with errant shots.
Cheers Mate
He's back! Good to see the legend in action.
Hey Chad,
Good to hear from you again, I have been keeping up with your channel content .. man your presentation production quality is so good these days .. it's a far cry from my old handycam cow paddock presentations.. but then I have quite a significant base of appreciative 'Cow Fans' that line the paddock fence when I am videoing.. I must be doing something right because I get a lot of appreciative 'Mooing' responses from the Cows when I hit a good shot. .. as long as someone appreciates my videos I am happy..
Cheers Mate
@jhensby1 haha, happy cows beat out disappointed people every time. Many thanks for the kind words, and you're always gold, my friend.
Welcome back JH! This reminds me of the negative load stuff and hinging you introduced a year or 2 ago. Its something i get back to when ive lost some lag in my swing.
Hi Bob,
I think the negative loading principle gets natural loadings taking place in the backswing of any type of golf swing really.. if you get the clubhead negative lag loading itself in the backswing the clubhead 'must' reverse that loading to 'positive' loading in the downswing... .. but if you positive load the club head in the backswing there can be a reversing of the positive loading into negative loading in the downswing.
Stay well. Cheers!
Hi Ken,
The 'Cow Paddock' is a great escape from life's day to day pressures.. the Cows dont question or critique what I am trying to do .. which is a nice respite from the general requirements of day to day life.
Cheers JH
Welcome home John, missed you. A very interesting video, food for thought.
Hi William,
The swing is a real alternative to the general complications of a conventional golf swing.. when you can eliminate virtually everything required in the downswing relative to deliberate structure application thinking with the one only backswing process ..the swing has to become more easilly manageable.
Cheers JH
Welcome back, John, so good to see you against the big blue Aussie sky.
It was a great day to get back on the Practice Tee weather wise.. perfect temperature and the wind blowing in the right direction.
Cheers JH
Hi Jh,
Great to have you back sharing your knowledge!
Cheers mate
Hi Matt,
That's encouraging to know you actually use the hinging principle in your own golf swing.. that is quite an endorsement of the process at your level of playing expertise these days. .. I just think a 'Throwing' action with the trial hand/wrist is something that is naturally endemic in people ..its something that is just a natural process.. you don't have to 'invent' it.. you just have to 'use' it.
Cheers Mate
This is where I first joined you JH. I am so pleased to see you back on the Tee and looking well. regards as always.
Hi Tony,
You know 'I' visited a lot of my old videos during my absence from the Practice Tee,.. I didn't realize that I had visited so many different aspects of Golf Swings .. the good thing about that was that there was actually something in all those videos that could help me in my return to the Practice Tee.. so if I can find something to help 'me' again.. hopefully, other golfers can get the same benefit.
Cheers JH
So good to see you back on the practice tee.
Hi Dana,
It was so good to get back on the Practice Tee again.. it was a bit daunting frankly because it felt so foreign after such a long layoff from hitting Golf balls .. the swing was quite crotchety in feel but surprisingly the ball flight was really good accuracy and strike-wise..

Great video JH. Always a pleasure to watch.
Hi Rowan,
I think the general theme of this video could help a lot of people.. it really is a very simple way to swing a Golf Club.

Welcome back JH. I’ve been layed up myself the past few days with a tick born illness. Glad the notification finally came on. I used this swing in practice before it’s a good one. Cheers.
Hi John,
I know how those Tick inflicted illness's debiltate you.. a fiend of mine who is a super athlete had an awful time getting over a Tick bite infection.
@@1atomicgolf that’s me. Thinking too much and all negative.🏌🏻🏌🏻
Hi John,
I think every Golfer has at one time or another been overly consumed by way too many thought applications in the process of a Golf Swing..
Cheers mate
Great to see you back JH. Hope you're well, Richard

Hi JH, Good to see you on the range hitting ball with swinging club head.
Hi Dale,
It's good to be back hitting the ball again on the Practice Tee.. it felt pretty wobbly but it was good to have a swing type that I could apply that let me hit the ball fairly competently after such a long layoff..
Cheers JH
Welcome back, JH, been waiting for your next video. Will try that swing today. You're looking good! WOW.
I think the swing in today's video will surprise you with how effective and easy it is to apply.
Killing it JH! Unbelievable that you swing a club with that speed at 80+
Hi Steve,
Good to hear from You, I certainly dont have the speed of clubhead that I had.

Hi Stephen,
It's really good to be back on the Practice Tee.. Welcome back soldier.
I gotta tell you after not holding a golf club for so long I felt I was actually in a battle today working out a way to get my old body back in tune for swinging a golf club.. luckily that swing I used today was a great solution for all the swing rust I had accumalated.

Hi Tony,
A friend of mine played Old Head Golf Course in Cork last year .. he said it was a wonderful course.. he said he played a few other courses in Cork as well and they were all so good to play..so you clearly have no reason to not get out on those courses regularly and enjoy them.
It really takes your mind off of traditional position style golf
Well done JH
Thanks
Hi Larry,
I must say that by applying a shuttling of the knees in the downswing instead of a straightening of the lead leg/knee and rotation of the lead hip I really do get a stronger/longer hit on the ball through impact.
Hi Francis,
If you look at the way I position my arms/hands at address you will see my hands are relatively body centered at address.. for all normal shots ..
Cheers JH
Hi JH,
Thanks for your informative reply.

-Joe
Hi Joe,
I haven't abandoned Martin's swing methodology..

Brilliant it seems to working for me. Thanks.
No way! Welcome back! You were missed.
I missed the Practice Tee bigtime as well.. it was so good to get out and feel a golf ball on a clubface again ..
Cheers Jh
JH I think all of your 200 swings you never missed a shot. I like this swing that your are demonstrating
are you picking the ball?
Cheers JH
Thanks you JH I will work on these moves.@@1atomicgolf
When you take it back fast your body braces and you don't float or sway out of balance. At 67, I have been afraid to swing hard for a few years for fear of injuring myself. However, that was on a full swing. I think this short controlled acceleration swing may be the thing.
Hi Mike,
You are absolutely correct about the result of tacking the club back fast with the hands and that action eliminating swaying or loss of balance etc.
Hi Steve,
I'm the eternal swing researcher.. for me to be locked into 'one' type of golf swing mechanics would bore me into golf swing research retirement.
JH-- 🎉 in advance-this swing has done wonders to my ball striking - any suggestions on how to lower my ball height?
Hi George ,
Glad the swing is working OK for you..
Just try moving the ball back in your stance first and try that.. as well concentrate on keeping your lead shoulder closed at impact and see what that does to your ball flight.. but bremember closed shoulders at impact will get the ball '
starting' to the right initially.. so you need to get the clubface closed up a bit at address to compensate for that.. because the shot will be a draw shot with that clubface closure and path attack at impact.. and draw shots generally are just lower ball flight shots.
Cheers JH
Thanks, Great video.
Glad you liked the video.. I just think if we can narrow down the complexity of thinking for the Golf Swing there really is just less requirement for coordinating a "lot' of deliberate conscious things in the Golf Swing.
Cheers JH
Great to see you back JH, really glad you’re well. What happened with the Martin Ayers swing you were working on, there was a 7 second video of you swinging that way and your backswing looked longer than I’d ever seen it, this is quite a contrast to that
Hi Jim,
I Have been liaising with Martin Ayers about his swing methodology..
@@jimmcewen9351 HiJim,
I have always found that setting the wrists in a negative load orientation at address just has to promote a positive load orientation in the downswing..its actually impossible to keep the wrists in a negative loaded position in the downswing if the wrists were negative in the backswing..cannot happen biomechanically..
I believe the clubhead should always be 'dragged' back in the backswing..not 'pushed' back..when you do that you get the fishing flyrod snap loading effect of the clubhead...good to hear from you.
Cheers JH
Great to see you.
Thanks for that.. good to be back.
Cheers JH
Great to have you back JH. I always associate you with channel lock which you really took ownership of. A very simple and reproducible technique which I have found very useful.
As an aside do you have any thoughts on the stack and tilt technique? Essentially keeping all the weight on the lead side.
All the best
David
Hi David,
This process of course can be applied to the Channel Lock swing..
Cheers JH
@@jhensby1 thanks John
JH thank you for your help and welcome back. I tried the short control, acceleration swing today. Loved every bit of it but my ball flight is uncontrolled fade/small slice. I’m 78 made the distance I had at 68 any suggestions on how I can straighten out the ball flight?
Hi George,
If you ball flight is a 'Slice' type flight.. that means the clubhead/face is tracking 'out to in' at impact..and the clubface is 'open' at impact.
Cheers JH

Are you rotating your body in downswing?
Cheers JH

Fantastic JH!
Hi Barry,
Glad this swing resonates with you.. I think its a really easy swing to apply.

Rory takes it back fast, too.
Hi Mike,
Rory does take the club back quickly.. as does John Rahm..

Hi Patrick,
Cl is available to the Golfing world for .. Free.. to commercially promote the process is to difficult at my stage of life.. taking on the traditional base of Golf swing mechanics teaching is to big a task for an 81 year old.. as well its never been my objective to commercialise any of the JH practice tee swing iterations.
If some people can benefit from what I have advocated on the JH practice tee over the years.. then that is reward enough for me.
Cheers JH
Is it the same action but longer swing for fairway woods and driver? Welcome back!
I think the good thing about the swing is that you only have to think about one specific action in 'all' your swings.. and if you have been a poor bunker shot player this swing will be a godsend for you.. the way the clubhead moves through the sand with this action is amazing.
cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Terrific JH…trying it out this morning….thanks!
Square stance center ball position?
Hi John,
My grip. is. traditionally. considered. a neutral. type grip configuation, the ball position. is. whatever. a player uses. normally in their general swing.
The relativety of the swing. is simply that of the. 'Process' of the swing, motion as such, that being. whatever. transpires. in the actual. swing dynamics.. essentially the. biomechanical. process of the hands/arms. etc. during the swing.
Cheers JH
Hi JH…good review!
Bob G (Florida)
Please show one swing with driver and 3 wood front view to see ball position.
Ball position is not different from a conventional ball position.. the swing is only different in the process letting the clubhead move in a toally unobstructed motion circular 'around' the body.. its a 'circular' swing.. not a side to side swing.
Cheers JH
Yeah we missed you!
Hi Daryl,
I missed the practice tee too.. the body feels lost relative to swinging a golf club after not hitting any shots for so long.. it was just good to be able to resurect a swing type that doesnt require a lot of application to get some good contact on the ball again.
Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Hi Thx. Tried the swing this pm and went great. Felt like mini hogan action. So simple and the right hand release was powerful. Glad you shared this. Im turning 70 soon and this suits me. Rgdz daryl
Hi Daryl,
The swing I think is really good for the senior Golfer.. because even at 60/70 ish you can still fire the hands/arms fairly quickly over a short distance of travel .. it's not as easy to do that with a longer length swing because there is more requirement to support a longer swing from the rest of the body.. the shorter brisk swing is quite easy to support balance, etc wise.

What happened to the Channel Lock swing?
The Channel Lock swing is still part of the swing technologies I presaent on my Pratice Tee channel.
The idea of my channel is to discuss all 'different' types of Golf Swing mechanics.. Channel Lock is just another one of those Golf Swings.. nothing has happened to Channel Lock.. its still an extremely good Golf Swing to try out.
Cheers JH
Am I missing something? What happened to channel lock?
Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf thanks for the explanation!
How do u shift the weight in downswing?
Weight shift is an automatic response of the torque coiling of the body in the backswing.. you just need to keep the trail leg as it was at address right throughout the backswing and the lead hip/leg will respond to being woundup against the trail side buttressing from the trail leg and pull the leadside of the body into releasing the golf club through impact.
Cheers Jh
Ok got it. Explain the ball position at address is it closer to back foot? It is difficult to see on video.
Hey John , just seen you & Martin on be better golfs latest video , hope Brandon got your permission lol.
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for telling me about Marty being on Be Better Golf..
Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Cheers mate , hope to see you back soon , & maybe a vid or 2 explaining some of Marty's theories? All the best.
Cheers JH
JUST checking in JH. Hope you are well. REGARDS TONY .
Hi Tony,
I'm OK... will be back on the practice tee end of this week.. absolutely.. had a lot of family things to attend to for the last 6 months which took all my leisure time.. got all that squared away now so back to the practice tee..
Cheers JH
What happened to Martin aryes swing
Hi Michael,
Martins swing process is still in development with Martin.. hopefully it will be a finished process soon and that finished iteration of the swing can be discussed in more depth at that time by Martin and myself.
cheers JH
Wow! It was just the day before this video I was going to text a comment on last one to find out if you’re still alive ❤
I actually have had a number of enquiries from people to find out if I was still above ground which made me get out and do some videos to show I am still a living entity..and to find out my swing still had some 'life' in it was very encouraging.
Cheers JH
Must be good contact, you're starting to twirl the club.
Hi Mike,
The contact was quite acceptable considering the long absence I had from hitting golf balls.. and the good thing about this swing is that even if you dont flush every shot because the clubhead is freewheeling so much you still tend to get good impact on the ball.. a little high or low on the face doesnt kill the ball flight drastically..
Cheers JH
Can we see jh hit the ball and see the ball
Where is Martin these days JH?
Martin and I have been working together fialising my indoctrination to the "Final' iteration of his swing methodology... we are very close to finalising the program and hopefully I can do some videos soon on my channel explaining program results etc.
Cheers JH
You OK JH ?
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for enquiring .. I'm ok.. I have just had an extended break from the practice tee and instruction videoing etc. for some family responsibilities.
However, I am definitely returning to the practice tee before the end of next week... I have a lot of new content that I have been researching that I think will be of great interest to the channel followers.
Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Good to hear , we missed you.
It does not take long to warm up a Rolls Royce golf swing!
Hi Bill,
At my age its more like a ..'John Deere Tractor'.. than a Rolls Royce.. but a John Deere tractor is very reliable and uncomplicated.. which I think the Short Controlled Accelleration swing also has those traits.
Cheers JH
Love that analogy!
Yes…I’m 78 and I’m always working on my John Deere kind of swing. Great to see you back on the range!
Recoil
Hi Patrick,
Lots of .. recoil.. in this swing..its actually the very first premise I spoke about in the very first video I did way back 12+ years ago.. I called that video . Action.. Reaction.. reason being that I felt the downswing should be a reaction to the backswing velocity forces.. which is essentially a Recoil action.
Cheers JH
